This month makes or breaks CCS tenure as a coach.

Always remember this program is broke and don't have the luxury of buyouts. The posters of this board are not BMDs and have absolutely no say. I mean this team still practices in hurricanes outside. The good news is....we can fill holes with the portal and expect 7 to 10 more this upcoming year!!!

Willie hooked the fans on #baymade because he was lazy. By the time other schools picked the state there is not much left. Great time to get better experienced better talent that at least practiced against better competition.

That's just the nature of football recruiting for you. Some players pan out, others don't. Some highly rated recruits don't live up to their hype, while other, low star prospects vastly outperform what's expected. You have no idea what you are getting until game day comes around.

I think Corey just picked a random player from the roster to troll the board with. I doubt he actually pays any particular attention to Roberts when he watches the games.

Its obvious you have no idea what you are looking at when watching the game.

So when watching the defense, what positions stand our overall as a weakness and as a strength? Now describe the play of the Fs.

The "impact player" that replaced Nico is averaging .25 more tackles a game. Nico had 7.5 TFL's and 2 sacks in 6 games. Macon has 8 TFL's and 2 sacks in 8 games. Nico had 6 wins in 6 games, Macon 4 wins in 8 games

That's because there hasn't been a noticeable drop off in the mlb play like there was last year after Sawtelle went out .... that we can identify, . What on the field role does the mlb have in setting up the defense? Maybe that would explain the inconsistency in how the defense plays at times, don't know ....... bottom line is that there's nothing you can point to to defend stupid observations like this:

I hope you are not serious about the comparison. Do you not remember all the plays that Nico took himself out of the play, either by being out of position or the inability to shed blocks? We got gashed up the middle due to his inability to hold down the middle. However, I do credit you in believing your own garbage about Sawtelle's greatness. The comparison is not even close...like not by a mile!

Excuse me? No need need to comment on Sawtelle until you make some some stupid, uninformed comment on him like that. Their stats as starters are remarkably similar except that Nico was astute enough to get a pick ....... and not lose a game as a starter. Keep making a fool of your self by trying to denigrate him.

Nice deflect Mr. Sawtelle. As the case with Roberts, might be a nice guy, but not an impact player like the guy that took his place. You keep fooling yourself by blaming all of this clown show on the coaches. There is an obvious lack of talent on this team as a whole and especially the 2 deep. Not one time have I heard someone like say this season "If Nico would have been playing in the case of Macon, we would be much better." Just like Roberts, he will hurt you more than he would help you. That is a fact!!!

Nick Roberts clearly has wronged you in the past. Didn't hold a door open for you? Turned down an autograph maybe? Rejected your love proposal?

He continues to start for a much improved good defense and is a weapon on special teams. Ronnie Lott is not available in the portal, sorry.

Same lame defense most made for Sawtelle. He may be an outstanding young man, but struggles on the field.

It's funny how all you Sawtelle cheerleaders went all crickets!!! Lol

This has been a pretty negative year for USF Football. Therefore, I wanted to point out some of our positives. Some of you are hell bent on chitting on Brian Jean-Marie, but for the most part we are much improved. Our biggest weakness is rush defense and 3rd downs which can be fixed. We finished 2018 ranked #95 in total defense.

    USF 2019 Football Defense

    Ranked:

    #58 in total defense

    #1 in turnovers gained

    #3 Fumbles recovered

    #2 Tackles for Loss

    #16 Interceptions

    #40 Sacks

     Defensive Leaders -

Tackles  Macon, Reaves, NICK ROBERTS (for Corey Lea), Studstill, and Boyles

Tackle for loss  Dwayne Boyles, Kirk Livingstone, Patrick Macon, Greg Reeves, and Antonio Grier

Interceptions  Nick Roberts, Sails, Reaves, Studstill, V. Davis,

Sacks – Reaves, Grier, Boyles, Livingstone, and Macon.

I am not saying we have a lights out defense, but feel I should acknowledge that we have IMPROVED.

He is also leading in missed tackles!!!!  The kid is not a free safety and will hurt you more than he will help you. We need a true thumper at safety that can tackle. He also lazy like some others on this team. Caught out of position often and is awful in open field tackling. Our D as a whole does not wrap up and its the sole reason the run D sucks.

    Final score of this thread:

    TBP Board Members - 73

    Corey - 0

Nothing like deflecting. The facts are 10 tds 6 ints.  Taken -78 in sacks and 55 percent completion at 6.2 yards per reception.

Wear the rose colored glasses all you want, if I were in Strong's position I would giving the other 2 some reps. Kid is pedestrian at best.

Just curious, what did you think of McCloud in the Navy game?

    :icon_deadhorse:

If he was hurt then he should not have been in the game....if he was just off then you should not kill your chance of winning with awful play.

    classic case of backup QBism....

McCloud is young and will make mistakes. guess what? the other two don't have any experience and will make plenty of mistakes too.

yeah, but give them an opportunity to make them. Keeping McCloud in against Navy was just simply irresponsible as a coach. You will lose your team watching that garbage play.

McCloud completed 75% of his passes for over 100 yards with 2 TDs. He also had 40 yds rushing at 12.7 yards per attempt. That's w/o playing a full game. I can tell Corey that you are the type of dude that would leave your wife for a hotter chick b/c you think you will be happier with her. Every game, you chit on players and want to replace them with another player on the bench or from the transfer portal. My friend, in life, the grass isn't always greener on the other side. I do agree that they should have pulled the trigger on McCloud during the Navy game, and went with Evans and/or Rygol in the 2nd half, but at least they are taking precautions with McCloud now. I haven't seen enough "bad play" from Mccloud to justify benching him. He runs waaaaay better than I thought he did and I feel he throws waaay better than QF or BJ Daniels. But thank you for crapping on McCloud, your good luck will do him wonders like it did Nick Roberts

So you are not concerned with his spotty play? If you were CCS and your job was riding on how you finished this year, would you not at least have a short leash on McCloud? Roberts is like Sawtelle, get somebody good or even average in there and you will forget that he is gone too. Remember all that crazy talk about Keeane and CO? That qb room has been crap for a long time and I just don't think that if I am CCS that I would not at least have the other two ready to go in at a moment's notice. If he would have pulled Qb's in the GT and Navy games early, he would probably have one more win.
