Basically "No".  Not that I disagree with him but there was very little analysis to lend support to his conclusion.

So I will.  If we beat FSU and ran the table we would probably be ranked around 10-ish at the end of the season.  That is even if FSU runs the table and leap frogs us (which they would within 3 or 4 weeks).

That might change if Houston is also highly ranked when/if we play them and the other teams on our schedule also step up.  Memphis and Temple flirting with the top 25 and maybe Navy.

It would give us a solid resume but not enough to get us into the championship.  There will definitely be one loss teams ahead of us (like FSU) from bigger conferences plus the conference champions from the P5.

Two years of running the table would have us in the conversation IMO but would still require some luck to get us in any playoff.

I am not saying we can or will run the table, just how things would play out if we did.

If we go undefeated we better be in the playoff. We have a strong strength of schedule (7 bowl teams) and a top 10 in FSU and likely another top 10 in Houston in the AAC Championship game. I don't see how they could keep us out unless they just basically say screw you G5 you can't ever make the playoffs.

No G5 team will ever make the playoffs as long as there are only 4 spots.

Are you coming around to an expanded play off?

Yup. A one (or even 2) lose "big name" SEC/BIG team would ALWAYS get picked ahead of an undefeated AAC team. Especially a one year team.

Now if we ran the table two years in a row they would have to strongly consider it, but even then the odds would be stacked against us.

Would be a better scenario than we have now.  6 team playoff with each P5 conf champ getting in and the highest ranked team from the G5 as long as they were in the top 20.  The 2 highest ranked teams get 1st round byes.
