  1. Kinda like that he has a bit of a Mike McDaniel vibe.
  2. If we ever hire someone other than plan C, D, or F... I'll start getting jazzed for a season again. Doesn't matter the sport.
  3. This one stings. No words. JR put it all on the line for what he believed in 1000x more than any of us ever will. Being a Bulls fan is just icing on the cake for a man that any fanbase would be proud to claim as their own.
  4. I he hires a bad coach, no one will remember the process, either.
  5. He's been in Utah for a few years. Maybe he's used to taking Sunday's off.
  6. USF coaches with legendary dads in the coaching ranks are a slam dunk.
  7. So your team just made the Final Four and your first thought was coming here?
  8. Harvard Business School has done a few things where their research supports the Flutie Effect being legit.
  9. I'll probably get my DM before he does.
  10. I sent the same Tweet to Giselle about meeting up for some drinks after the divorce news.
  11. Flutie Effect - take from it what you will in regards to MBB and March Madness. https://econ.appstate.edu/RePEc/pdf/wp1905.pdf Using a panel study of universities, we find a positive correlation between winning either an upset victory or a national championship in football and the number of applications and students enrolling at the successful university. Surprisingly, we also find that winning a national championship decreases the number of top tier students who choose to attend the university, while there is no statistically significant relationship between an upset win and the quality of incoming students at a school. Overall, our results suggest that athletics serve as a consumption amenity, leading students to apply and enroll at the victorious university.
  12. This is essentially my point in the other thread. March Madness and what FAU is doing right now is easily worth the $600k it would take to give Brey what he was making at ND. Though, as I said, you're dreaming if you think he was looking for the same money he just got before getting canned. FAU is on its third 2 hour commercial for the school with each one generating millions more eyeballs. If you hired an advertising firm and said, "We'll give you less than a million dollars and we want you to create a way for LITERALLY millions of people to see us for 6+ hours..." They'd laugh their asses out the door at you saying that is impossible. We probably paid 3x that much for the ******* bull we threw away with that embarrassment of a rebrand logo.
  13. I think he has a couple kids. So let's say 4.
  14. Notre Dame Releases Salaries for Brian Kelly, Muffet McGraw, Mike Brey & Jack Swarbrick for 2018-19 Mike Brey was the highest compensated Notre Dame Fighting Irish coach in the 2018-2019 fiscal year, according to tax documents released today by the university. But... So, based on this, a few years ago Brey was making what we were paying xCBG. Let's assume it went up a few hundred K since then year over year. So he's making, ballpark, $2.2m this year (10%ish escalating raise each year). I'm going out on a limb and saying he didn't expect to get the same from any MBB school after being fired/not fired from Notre Dame. Argue with me if you want, but I'll die on the hill of you're wrong if you think he was shopping himself for what ND was paying him. But, I'll bite and assume he wanted exactly what his ND contract was. That means if we lost him over money, we balked at paying him $600k-ish more than a guy we were paying to be the basement of the AAC. We thought Brey wasn't worth $600,000 more than xCBG's results. No idea if money was the issue. But, if it was money... yikes. $600,000 is like 1% of our athletic budget, right?
  15. He added a person. I don't see gender.
  16. I mean, this is coming straight from Shane Hartman's Twitter. So, this is as close to fact as can be.
  17. MBB might be the easiest sport to get a return on investment. You hire the right head coach and you can be dancing in 2-3 years. We were paying xCBG $1.6 million. Let's say we go all in and spend an extra $1.4 to round up to $3 million. $3 million gets you Shaka Smart (I know it doesn't literally get you Shaka Smart, tap the breaks). So... for an extra $1.4 million investment, we are a March Madness staple and people see USF on their brackets year in and year out. There is no sport where an extra $1.4 million investment gets you the kind of exposure good PR the tourney does. $1.4 million extra in football dollars gets you an upgraded assistant pool or some new locker neon lights. $1.4 million in baseball goes a long way towards on field success, but the PR for being an annual regional team doesn't match up with March Madness.
  18. She could certainly improve our shooting.
  19. He wasn't a good fit for the culture we're trying to build.
  20. Didn't Brey confirm he was "interviewed" for the job? We must think we have someone better on the line or that someone with his resume isn't good enough for us. Or, we had no idea how much he'd want to coach here.
  21. If I'm Brey, I look like an ass if it gets out that I interviewed for USF and told I wasn't good enough. If I'm USF, I look like I think Brey isn't good enough for us and that makes us look woefully out of touch with reality. That's why an official interview and/or reports of it are bizarre. Neither side wants this to get out. That's why it has to have some legs, because it makes both of us look bad.
