  1. I guess I'm always around a 7 when we get a new coach. Every guy we've hired has had a reason for being "better" than the last guy for whatever reasons led to the previous one's dismissal. I thought xCSH was a good call at the time. xCWT was young and exciting. xCCS was older and established. xCJS was new blood. Etc. CAG has been winning the press conferences, but... So did xCJS. He's young and new, that's why xCCS gave me some hope since he was established. I mean... What am I supposed to say? I'm optimistic AND jaded. Until we play a game... All of this is just bulletin board shenanigans.
  2. I mean... the list of teams that have hired a friend of a hot **** recruit to be a nobody on staff is pretty long, so this isn't out of the question. I just don't know if the brother is legit enough to take him on his own.
  3. Since this is the MBB thread going... How much of taking Kobe Knox as a transfer do the basketball people on this site think is directly related to trying to get his brother to sign? I know nothing to very little about this, but I know his brother is a 5 star local.
  4. It would make more sense that way, but I think they look at it like some sort of overall impact thing. And everyone hates on the kickers and punters, anyway. I found the 5-star reference. 2024 Kickers | National Kicking Rankings
  5. Link? I just did a quick search and he's not even rated by the recruiting sites. I want him to be a 5 star, but I'm not seeing what you're reading. He's unranked by Rivals and isn't even in the 24/7 or ESPN database. The only thing I can see is that he declared himself a 5 star on his Twitter page. The #1-5 kickers are 3 stars. 2024 Top Kicker Recruits The 247Sports rankings are determined by our recruiting analysts after countless hours of personal observations, film evaluation and input from our network of scouts.
  6. If you want to know what it looks like when you "do your own research" and don't let "experts" take a peek at what you're doing... I'm only charging $250k to go see the Titanic next week.
  7. Why can't he do his times tables, because he went to a ******** charter school that Florida let him go to and says it is "choice." Exactly why accreditation is a real thing. When a student does a thing at your school, like pass a grade, the only thing that makes your (a school) word legit is that you've shown you're doing things the right way. You know, by being accredited by one of the major groups who come to a school and examine the whole thing. This is going to be a ******* thing since our governor recently said he doesn't like accreditation. So, I'm going to throw this to the wolves who will tear this up about how either a) he's absolutely right or b) he's the worst. Someone brought up charters earlier... They're 90/10 a scam. There was talk about the ACTs and SATs. What would be better, a letter of rec from a teacher? You know why my word means something? Because I teach at places that are accredited. I have been vetted and when I say a student has done a thing or gets a grade, it actually has weight. You know why the SAT and ACT matter, because it actually measures a thing colleges want to see and people who've been in education for literally decades have vetted it, too. Have at it, peeps. I've only been doing this for close to 25 years. So, my opinion probably doesn't matter since people "do their own research" and even if I waded into it, I'm wrong on both fronts. If you want to know why Florida's education sucks so bad, it is because we a) don't put any money into it and b) start reading everyone's comments on this. Also... I just waded into it. So... yeah.
  8. Grade inflation is straight insanity in HS right now and it is the absolute worst at "good" schools. Standardized testing is incredibly flawed, but it is infinitely better than grades.
  9. USF 2024 Football Commits USF Yeah! Suck it, Tulane! We just jumped from 66 to 63. In your face! You may have better commits, but we have more commits.
  10. We currently are not leading the AAC. Tulane is ranked higher and we're tied with FAU for total number of commits. And on 6/27/20 we had 11 commits. So, to answer the question. We're not doing anything out of the ordinary right now.
  11. But, that's the thing. You want to think that, but we're not. We're a tad better than xCJS, but worse or the same as every year since smartphones have been a thing. 2023 - 76 2022 - 90 2021 - 65 2020 - 111 2019 - 75 2018 - 65 2017 - 76 2016 - 66 2015 - 66 2014 - 42 2013 - 54 2012 - 54 2011 - 70
  12. We're 66th in the country and have two guys committed who aren't even ranked by any recruiting services. We're not exactly lighting it up.
  13. As someone who was allowed to throw a ton of pitches in his life, I love it. Went 10 innings once. I don't think number of pitches should be limited. If you hear any of the old timers talk, they think pitchers should throw more. But... in today's world, when kids are NEVER asked to throw 90-100, this is insane. Too much riding on their professional career. Legendary outing: Stanford's Quinn Mathews throws 156 pitches in win Out of his 18 pitching appearances this season, Mathews has thrown less than 100 pitches in a game on only three occasions.
  14. That's pretty funny for a plethora of reasons. Our athletics bring some(?) people in, but lose us millions of dollars every year. Our academics bring in students that make us millions of dollars every year and we can actually win those match ups.
  15. Please... lord baby Jesus... I don't ask for much, but don't let Snow transfer.
  16. Right. No one in this thread has mentioned P5 opponents as a major reason for choosing P5 over AAU.
  17. We can't hold a mediocre AAC team's jock and people are all, "Definitely P5. Playing teams of our caliber is what we need." At this moment in time, AAU ******* crushes anything a P5 could do for us. Our football team wouldn't/shouldn't be allowed to put a P5 team's jock in the laundry.
  18. Look at the number of P5 schools who have been P5 or the equivalent for a decade. How many of them have reached AAU status? Hundreds of millions of dollars and the academic side hasn't budged. I'm not saying P5 is bad, I'm just saying it only helps one side. And again... that's not wrong or bad. Just see it for what it is.
  19. And how much has being P5 helped Wake's academics? I'd argue it has helped Wake's athletics immensely. Doubt it has done much else. Their baseball team is reaping the benefits of P5 and the money for facilities, budget, etc. It probably makes the community happy. Alumni likely love it. Academics are still chugging along like they always have.
  20. Which brings more money into athletics. Which does nothing for the University as a whole, just more money for athletics. AAU brings more applicants with a higher academic profile. P5 and its money brings more applicants who like athletics. Neither is wrong, they just do different things. I could be totally wrong. In 3-5 years, let's revisit how much UCF's academic ranking has risen as a result of their Big 12 situation. If they rise in the rankings, I'll happily admit I was wrong and P5 helps the University as a whole. Feel free to pin this and hold me accountable.
  21. AAU means we bring in better applicants and makes no money for the University as a whole, but we look good to people who think academics is why a University exists. P5 means we bring in more applicants and makes no money for the University as a whole (but we make a **** ton and put that right back into things like a weight room and a video game room), but we look good to people who think football is why a University exists.
  22. So we let Kingston walk and then decided to pay Mohl 50% more than we were paying Kingston? Did our AD really look at the college baseball landscape and think this was good money spent?
  23. But, we're definitely paying Mohl more than we paid Kingston. Correct?
  24. We were paying Kingston $140k and he left for $475k. So we let him walk for $335k and then paid Mohl more than we were paying Kingston? We're fine paying a totally unproven Mohl 50% more than we were paying Kingston, who was knocking it out of the park at every stop he was at... way to go? Coach Mark Kingston formally leaves USF for South Carolina baseball
