  1. There's another one in addition to him.
  2. I'd probably go anywhere for a bowl game. And I wouldn't mind playing a lower-level bowl team so we can get that 1st bowl win in USF history. Keep adding to the "firsts." I'd hate to start off 0-2 in bowl games.
  3. I think there were just "discussions" about scheduling the game in the future. A local reporter was commenting about how USF wanted to play WKU over UCF.
  4. I've moved on from the losses to RU, CIN, and KAN. At least now we're complaining about losses to BCS caliber teams. Big step-up from a few years ago.
  5. I'm happy about the Pitt win. I'll be happy about the SEASON if we can beat a syracuse team that we're supposed to beat. If this happens: 7+ win season 2nd straight bowl game from a BCS conference Increased exposure against LOU and WVU Returning most of our starters This is looking good for USF and for potential USF recruits. Now lets start keeping some of that florida talent from going to those mid-level SEC/ACC teams!
  6. Too bad the decision to put PJ in the game wasn't a true coaching decision.....I would have considered it brilliant. He played excellent and I think he was more effective at eating up clock time. PJ is like a big bruising fullback in those situations. He just came in the game one play too late. Also had that clutch fumble recovery. Awesome game from PJ! Hope we use him in this role when we need to grind out some tough yardage in the next couple of games.
  7. Couldn't agree more. I cringed every time I saw B. Williams lined up in the backfield (or split wide???). Don't we have a stable full of capable recievers??? and yet they line williams up out there. Questionable choice. Ponton is a solid back who should be getting ALL of our carries right now. If he needs a break I wouldn't be opposed to seeing Dorsey get some carries. We're going to need him to be productive in the next couple of years. PITT handed the ball off to a grande total of ONE RB all game. I like the trick plays every now and again because it will make future opponents prepare for them and it will hold defenses. Every week our opponent will have to think about reverses, double reverses, reverse passes, fake punts, passes to grothe, etc. This will help keep opposing defenses from swarming to the ball. Plus it's nice to see our offensive staff trying to be a little creative, and some of those plays have actually worked pretty well.
  8. Great idea. At least someone is trying to come up with some positive marketing. I hope people take advantage of this.
  9. Keep in mind they're also playing one of the best offenses in the nation. Petrino has also had two weeks to prepare for this one (and it shows).
  10. Agree with two very different styles. Grothe is more of a passing QB with the ability to scramble. Pat white is incredibly fast (run first). I think grothe can put up bigger numbers passing but only run when needed.
  11. Louisville will jump ahead of florida. The only knock on louisville is that they've only beaten Miami so far. They're about to beat the #3 team in the country and florida will beat vandy this week. Louisville SOS will go way up and UF's will go down.
  12. that 4 way tie must have thrown me off. the only problem with Louisville is that they lost so much hype after losing bush and the injury to Brohm. They've been more impressive in their wins than WVU but they still don't get the love from the voters.
  13. Adding to cubanbull post: Miami, @ kansas st, and a rivalry game against kentucky. These are not cupcake games. Nobody knew miami and kansas state were going to have down seasons. Louisville has NOT played a bad schedule and they've won huge in their OOC games.
  14. I'm rooting for LOU. I don't want to see WVU keep winning the BE. They've won it the last two years. Parity makes the league look more attractive.
  15. Look at John L. Smith now! He left Louisville. He decided it was a bad program that couldn't go anywhere and decided to coach in a "better conference" for a "better team." How did that work out for you J. Smith? Last time I checked Louisville is undefeated, #5 in the country, had 2 heisman candidates, and is playing in one of the biggest games of the year tonight, with NC implications. How's Mich State doing????
  16. I agree that losing top coaches would definitely hurt the BE. If you look at the situation of each coach though....... Schiano is a rutgers guy and I think he's actually from jersey. Petrino could have left two seasons ago, but chose to stay. Rodriguez is a WV guy as well. Their situations are similar to Leavitt in that they wanted to stay "home" and build their respective programs. Now that they've done that, why should they leave now? They are all ranked very high. Look at the schools that they could be going to. Miami isn't ranked and there's obviously a huge amount of pressure coaching for that team. UNC is terrible. Penn state is terrible and has to play OSU/MICH/ND every year. FSU also unranked. Maybe i'm being a little over-optimistic, but they would all be switching to WORSE teams than they currently have. It's gotta be tough to leave a #3 or a #5 or a #12 team and think you're going to a better place. It doesn't happen that often in football unless you're talking about OC/DC positions moving to HC jobs. They aren't exactly dismissing offers, but CJL did the same thing and got himself a nice contract extension with a hefty raise for himself and assistants (CJL was not truly considering leaving USF. It was a contract negotiation issue). I think the BE is an easier conference to get to a BCS game or NC game than any other conference (only 8 teams + guaranteed BCS game for the champ). The SEC had an undefeated Auburn team sit out the NC game a couple of years ago and they were the strongest conference that year.
  17. D-line. I still think defense wins championships (i've been a bucs fan too long). Our offense would benefit from our defense getting off the field on third downs. The way you do that is to get to the quarterback. We have been terrible in that department this year.
  18. It's early in the recruiting process and the kid already has two offers from BCS schools. Our coaches are familiar with him (saw him up close at the combine). He's an academic lock. He looked good on film. We have a good history of recruiting WR. This year he's returned 3 kicks for TDs (=athlete). He committed early and is excited to be a BULL. How is this even a debate of whether or not we just got a good commit????
  19. O-line and D-line need to improve a bunch before we will get consistent wins. As they say "It starts in the trenches." Cinci was able to gain 5-8 yards way too often on run plays. We were not able to do this consistently on our offense. This was not ray rice running all over us. I don't even remember cinci's RB's name and i just watched the game last night. I think the staff realizes that we need linemen on both sides of the ball and I think they are focusing recruiting on these areas (this year and last). I believe we're still going in the right direction. Hopefully we'll land a couple of big talents on both lines.
  20. 5. Ponton was the ONLY RB to touch the ball in the 4th quarter and most of the 3rd.  Our QBs ran the ball more than the RBs.  When you have a top 20 rush defense, considering who they have played, you know they are good.  Handing off to Ponton might not have helped that much more. He should be getting all of the first and second quarter carries.  He is miles ahead of williams in the talent department. You guys forget to mention that we had a chance to take the lead by kicking the field goal when we were down around the 20.  That would have put us up 3-2.  Instead we threw a pick and got nothing out of it.
  21. Army was worse because it was at home and army is a joke. UCONN was worse because of the timing of that loss. This was is easily #3 worst loss in program's history.
  22. Horrible offensive strategy. Horrible playcalling. Cinci has played against top talent in the country and their rushing defense is ranked #20 (will be even higher). We couldn't run the ball against FIU, UCF, or Kansas. Coaching staff thinks we're going to be able to run against cinci? At one point in the game they showed a stat saying that we'd run the ball 13 times and thrown twice. If we were going to be unbalanced in this game, I would have expected it would be mostly passing, because that is where cinici's weakness was. Our weakness continues to be our running game. Yes the whole team played bad last night, but it was still a poorly called game by RS. I'll wait until after the season before I start calling for a firing.
  23. How do you give the ball to B. Williams in this situation???? Look, I appreciate him coming in and working hard after we lost our top 2 RBs, but he is nowhere near the talent that Ponton is right now. Ponton is our best/only option at running back. I saw the coaching staff go to B. Williams on several key situations, most of which ended badly. Do they really think that Williams should be getting most of our 1st half rushes? Do they think he gives us a better running game than Ponton? Or are they starting him over Ponton because of the suspension?
  24. coaching staff should have recognized this after UNC fielded these punts and got good returns on them. It was a nice temporary fix but not a solution. No reason we don't give one of the freshman a chance to gain some "live" game experience. We lost the field position battle big time last night.
  25. I think they're good and they deserve their #15 ranking. They've just won 3 road games in a row, against 3 teams with winning records. Do I think they're a top 10 team? NO. Do I think they'll beat WVU? NO. You don't have to be in the top ten to be considered a good team. Most people thought WVU (and their running attack) would get handled by any top ten team last year. How did that one play out in the sugar bowl??? I won't count them out until someone can stop them.....same for WVU and LOU
