So, what does this do to the bowl scenarios for the BE?? And more importantly for the bowl scenario for USF??

And this is the one position that I feel we should be able to find someone who can come in and play well as a freshman (see j james @MIA). Ponton is starting to look more like a solid backup and B. williams is looking like a walk-on. We need to land a guy who could potentially start next season, not a guy who will develop into a starter over the next few years ala K. Dorsey. Obviously this isn't an easy task or we'd already have a great RB on the roster. I am still holding out hope that the guys we have now will develop, but you don't have to go outside the state to see that this is one of the toughest positions to find a quality player that fits the system. See UF, See FSU, UM starting a true freshman.

Selvie and Murphy. Love to see the young guys develop, and love big hits on defense.

Well, louisville went to Kansas state and smoked them to the tune of 24-6 (without Brohm or Bush). How did texas do when they visited kansas state this year???? Not only that, but that "Horrid" Louisville defense held KSU to 6 points. Texas gave up 45! the #4 team in the country does not give up 45 points to KSU. overrated

did jerell young from last year's class end up going JUCO? I know he was supposed to be pretty good. I'm not sure how much playing time the cox twins or jamaal jenkins will be getting. Would love to see us sign 3 CBs this year and hopefully two of them will work out. Murphy's versatility in the secondary will really help with recruiting safeties vs. CBs. We can simply go after the better player regardless of position and move murphy around to accomidate.

That's the 5-5 rice, C-DOA team that we are now tied with in the Harris poll. Kinda hard to take that too seriously.

Other freshman accounted for 3 sacks (both D-ends). Murphy, also a freshman, had a nice game as well. Finish this year strong and things are certainly looking bright for next year!!!

Will Grothe get BE offensive player of the week again?? 407 total yards/70+% completion is hard to argue with.

BSU is playing a season similar to UCF last year. They are beating teams that are nowhere near top25 status, and are getting a lot of hype because of the record. If they play someone decent in a bowl game, they will be embarassed. I'm almost hoping that they make a BCS bowl, just so they can get blown-out by 35 pts.

Also, not to be overlooked is the fact that WF is now only one spot behind BSU. BSU is not a top 25 team. This is not a situation like utah a few years ago. BSU is barely beating some seriously inferior competition.

The good news for the BE is that LOU did not fall too far. RUT moved way up. WVU looks back on track and has moved up nicely. The best news, though, is that WVU and RUT don't play until the last game of the season. This should make for another great BE showdown with obvious BCS implications. Of course, all of this will mean nothing as USF will beat LOU and WVU!!

I was actually thinking that CB was a position that we were going to have to land at least 2 good ones this year. Our starters and backups include williams, jenkins, gilliam, and denson- who are all Jrs. this year. We've got Murphy and Roberts who appear to be great future starters, but who else do we have that can play CB starting in the 2008 season. I dont' think the coaches want to replace 4 graduating Srs with true freshman. This would be the year to get some more corners in anticipation of losing the 4 Jrs. after 2007 season. You can probably fill me in on some of the younger guys (possibly red-shirters). I know we recruited 2 CBs last year but I think one of them didn't make it on campus and I don't know much about the other one.

But now that LOU has lost their chance at a NC, we have no reason to feel "guilty" about beating them (as some on the board would). We can route for RUT to finish undefeated and route that we finish with 3 more wins--guilt-free. There will be more upsets in the BE this year.

Agreed. It's not a major blunder/typo and half of the article was written about USF. i didn't even notice it until it was pointed out. I'll take all the JS love (or any media love) that we can get!

Good point bien, about being able to go agressively after the "Big Fish" and not have to worry about it if we can't get them to commit. I see the same thing happening at LB. We've already got great depth at both positions and we won't have to settle for "good, but not great" talent. It would be nice if some of the other positions had this luxury.

who else is out there at RB that the staff may still be persuing?? I think some of these guys are looking "beyond" USF and the coaches have (rightfully) decided not to waste their time on them (see Harris, possibly williams). This year I feel that if our coaching staff is still on them, then we probably have a chance at landing.

While I agree that rutgers has a great team and is having a great season.....I like the place where we are right now. It may be now or never for RUT. A loss tonight and they're starting all over. Take a look at their 2-deep. 1 Sr. fullback (starter) 6 Sr. O-linemen (4 starters) 2 Sr. TEs (starter) 3 Sr. D-Linemen (2 starters) 3 Sr. LBs (all starters) 3 Sr. DBs (1 starter) Losing basically your entire blocking unit (4/5 o-linemen + fullback + 2 tightends) on offense hurts any program, but will hurt RUT much more because they haven't been recruiting top25 classes. They should be beatable for USF next year. They need to get as many wins as possible while they still can this year.

smazza, not really sure how you can complain about LOU's SOS when it's only 7 spots behind the all-mighty OSU's. Ohio state is playing northwestern this week and played illinois state last week. Every team plays weak opponents at some point in the season. Louisville still has RUT, USF, and PITT (all bowl bound). They're strength of schedule is going to go up. They "scheduled" tough team, only some of them had unexpected down years. No division I-AA team on their schedule. And like someone said earlier, something like 9 of their opponents will likely make bowls this year. Including @ kansas state (BIG12), MIA (ACC), and kentucky (SEC). And can we lay off the USF SOS is only 103 BS??? It's getting incredibly old. We all knew our season's SOS was going to be bad until we played LOU and WVU. Does is really make all that much of a difference to the fans on this site? Our SOS will shoot WAY up after we play those two. I'm sure you have figured this out, on your own, by now. Just give it a rest and let me know what the SOS was at the END of the year. Then we may actually have something to talk about.

sounds like USF has decided to go in another direction than Greg Williams (hence the "low" rank). Check out Greg's blog for a nice piece on a "project" type running back we just got a committment from. Rickey Anderson from Cape Coral. I would expect at least one more RB to sign this year. I agree with the individual teams in the SEC not "needing" to play tough OOC games. But this doesn't help the SEC's constant argument that they are far superior to the other BCS conferences. 6-6 against BCS opponents is not "dominating." SEC rarely dominates during bowl season, but there's always a billion fans that will argue how much better they were in any particular season. The SEC is a great conference with great parity and an unbelievable fan base. But they should not just be "given" a NC spot unless there is dominant team in the League (Auburn should have gotten it the year they were 12-0). SEC is 1-3 against teams currently ranked in top 25 (not counting each other). Again, they need to win these games to back up their "dominance theory."

SEC vs BCS = 6-6 BE vs BCS = 11-7 BIG 10 vs BCS = 7-7 Pac 10 vs BCS = 6-6 Big12 vs BCS = 3-8 ACC vs BCS = 4-9 The thing that jumps out at me here is the fact that the SEC has 12 teams and has played a total of 12 BCS opponents. The BE has 8 teams and has played a total of 18 BCS opponents. who's scheduling the cupcakes???? Also, BE is 21-1 against non-bcs schools. Definately should help settle the BCS legitimacy controversy from last year.

Has a similar look to that "state of the art" building that they showed-off during the cinci game. I think it was their (cinci's) athletic facility. Things like this will help the school, which, indirectly will help with recruiting.

I would guess pretty low. But it is hard to tell how WVU will respond to the loss.....Will they come out Pissed-off? Or will they come out like they've just had their bubble burst last week?

I still get annoyed by the whole "Commuter School" bashing. Obviously this person hasn't been on campus in the last few years.
