  1. The travel packages have not been finalized yet. Check the SG website regularly for updates. I will do my best to post a thead on thebullspen.com asap after I get the info to put on the SG site. Remember, you MUST get the ticket on your own (thorugh the method described above and in the e-mail). The 500+ free tickets are available through Athletics (Sun Dome Ticket Desk). -Billy (SG Cabinet Director)
  2. USF bowl hopes are dwindling By PETE YOUNG, Times Staff Writer © St. Petersburg Times published December 8, 2002 A day after its hopes of going to the Hawaii Bowl were dashed, South Florida apparently lost an opportunity to go to the Motor City Bowl with Washington State's 48-27 win over UCLA on Saturday. The trickle-down effect of the Cougars win is expected to be an extra bowl-eligible Big East team. Motor City Bowl executive director Ken Hoffman said Saturday night his bowl will award its at-large berth to Boston College (8-4) or Virginia Tech (9-4) of the Big East if, as is anticipated, Notre Dame is bumped out of the BCS. Had Washington State lost, Hoffman said USF (9-2), Texas A&M (6-6) or Wake Forest (6-6) would have been competing for the berth, and he indicated USF might have been the strongest candidate. The Seattle Bowl has the lone remaining at-large bid. USF athletic director Lee Roy Selmon said he spoke with Seattle Bowl representatives last week and "they indicated very heavily they were looking for a West Coast team." Since no Pac-10 team is expected to be available, USF is clinging to the possibility the Seattle Bowl will reconsider its geographic desire. "We'll just have to wait and see how it plays out," Selmon said. http://www.sptimes.com/2002/12/08/Sports/USF_bowl_hopes_are_dw.shtml
  3. Travel packages for USF students will be posted on the SG website shortly (SG is still discussing details with Athletics and Student Affairs). Keep checking http://www.sg.usf.edu for more info. Of course, Athletics fronted the money to buy 500 tickets for students (FREE!). If you tell the ticket office when you buy tickets that you would like them to go to students, you can. They are not designated for any one student, they just go into the pool of 500+. It would be great to see everyone "sponsor" a student ticket, as the tradition will only grow as those who were sponsored become alumni... they then will sponsor and so on. I will keep everyone posted here of what happens with the SG student travel stuff.
  4. DON'T FORGET TO DO IT AT LEAST 200 TIMES YOURSELF!!!! VOTE in the PONTIAC GAME CHANGING PERFORMANCE OF THE YEAR! We won last week for a play in the WVU game, now we can win the year! The winner will be announced during the National Championship game, and I can’t begin to tell you how much great press that could bring USF Athletics. Pass this along to everyone you know… go! http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/contests/pontiac/index See the thead up top for ways to vote multiple times without clearing cookies.
  5. Ohhhhhhhhh.....it had better be all 230 of you! I'll be miffed if there's 229!! [smiley=furious3.gif] Ha, well... if regular students can't go we invite recent alumni back (mostly those who got screwed out of the Hawaii Bowl before we were in C-USA). We should be 100% at the bowl!
  6. Good for him... why would he leave his great team anyway? For a second rate Miami team? I wouldn't. Shoot... those USF Bulls are better than them anyway!
  7. Sweet, thanks for keeping us informed. Glad to see good people!
  8. DUH GUYS!!!! I would like to see a list of the bowl activities on Friday and around the bowl. If not on the offical website, at least by word of mouth!
  9. at the Car Care Bowl... we did something similar to that. It takes Athletics, and more so, the Bowl Committee organizing that. We had the pep rally thing at the car care bowl. They obviously have not mentioned exactly what is going on before the game day stuff, so we shall see. The band will be... Thursday Dec. 21 - Travel Day - Depart between 8-9am Friday Dec 22nd - Bowl activities.... Saturday Dec 23rd - GAME TIME!! and leaving right after... YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT MIGHT HAPPEN ON FRIDAY!
  10. You guys are just funny. I think our team is a "little" better than our old C-USA friends, at least now. Past behind, we came within a droped 2-pt conversion of betting Rutgers and beat WVU on the road. We are going to spank ECU. I would love to see a full stadium... gay purple and green/gold. I'm just sorry to say that you won't be making that long trip home happy...

  12. We shall see, question is... has sports marketing got the word out enough? They seem to have done a decent job on the athletic website, but have they driven the other marketing tools?
  13. Tell the ticket office when you buy the tickets that you would like to donate them to the student tickets. They are not designated for any particular students, they just go into the 500+ free tickets for students to go. The more the better!
  14. What will UF say now that they HAVE a shot at the Champ game?
  15. Craig James (2pts), Kirk Bohls (1pt), and Mitch Vingle (1pt) = USF's 4 points http://www.thebullspen.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/nph-YaBB.pl?num=1164569196/30
  16. Good points. Of course I don't have all of the data, giving me a slight disavantage here. I have seen you around the university working on several fund raising activities, and I must say you do a great job. Nothing was meant to be hurtful, of course. Just in good discussion! "Finally, I don't think you meant to say that the Morsani and Patel gifts were "detrimental" (hurtful) to the institution." - yup.. whoops! They were the best gifts so far! Just looking for more Thank you for the reply, answered everything I doubted. I might just take you up on the meeting. Thanks!
  17. Not to start into a major fight here on a message board, but I am still unsatisfied with our attempt to raise funds... fund raising or philanthropy. I am well aware of the Patel and Morsani gifts. Although they are very large at detrimental to the university, I wouldn't say we are doing "well" in the raising of funds. To prove that we need to do A LOT of work in this area, I point to our strategic goals. As of the last posting on the Office of Decision Support's Planning, Performance, and Accountability website: We are not meeting our goals in endowment and annual giving. 03-04 had us at an endowment goal of 273 million and we only brought in 248.7. More disturbing is our annual giving. A goal of 48 million with only 19.5 million brought in. Endowment: Peer colleges 5th out of 9 Big East - 9th out of 15 FL SUS - 3rd out of 8 (listed)- note UF brought in 586M, USF 249M Annual giving: Went from 41M in 2002 to 20M in 2003... wrong way. FL SUS - 3rd out of 8 (listed) -UF getting 177M, FSU getting 63M, USF getting 20M (we were on par with FAU, UNF, and UWF!) Peer colleges - 9th out of 9 I wouldn't say we are hitting the goals we need to be hitting. I know these are not the most recent numbers, but I don't have them here at home. None the less, we still have not drastically improved in the area of annual giving. I understand the need for Alumni participation and giving (which we do not have much of due to only being around for 50 years)... BUT that does not mean that we need to sit back and wait. The university, athletics, the alumni assoc., and the foundation MUST step up efforts before we are permanently surpassed by other colleges in Florida. Maybe we can wait for FAU's Script's project to be done before we worry. Maybe for UCF's and FIU's brand new Med Schools to be established? I hate to bring it up again, but the university can't even find $130,000 for band uniforms. I rememeber sitting in a band budget meeting in the provost's conferance room in 2004, with everyone debating who will pick up the tab. It's been 4 years since they were supposed to be changed out, and nothing has happened since then. I won't mention our need for capitol improvements and academic enhancement. The Board of Governors are clearly tied up in a governance battle still and the Florida Legislature isn't stepping up. I still have not seen a great concerted effort by the university at any level.
  18. do you understand how many fees they will charge you if they even let you use it? They were going to be d!cks when individual band sections were going to use the logo. Image Depot won't do it without permission, but just about EVERYONE else will... just be aware of the copyright. Take an easy road and use thebullspen.com logo at the top of the page. It's not covered by TM laws right? It is altered and a diff texture....
  19. Freshman living on campus have been seriously discussed over the past two years. I see it coming, but not until ALL new residence halls are complete (10 years).
  20. USF fundraising is in sad shape. Everything from athletics, classrooms, student buildings, residence halls, infastructure, and even our good old band uniforms need an upgrade. We have been LUCKY so far with the state getting extra revenue that was not projected this last year. The state has already said they are not granting new buildings etc. until all current projects are complete and renovations to older buildings are done (basicly). The university needs to build up everything, not just athletics. They have done a pretty good job building athletics (with the help of Leroy, etc in the past), but have been slacking in everything else. Only now are we getting a new student union (paid for by student fees, not donations of any type). Renovations to (mainly College of Arts & Sciences) buildings are needed NOW. Football is already getting new fancy fields and they have that amazing athletic center. Unless someone throws a lot of funding their way, maybe we should hold off on the rain machine and snow maker I mentioned for the football team in another thead.
  21. True... we don't play well in "conditions" Two examples: Miami - rained Kansas/UofL - very cold SO WE NEED A RAIN MACHINE AND A SNOW MAKER!
  22. Someone in Sports Marketing really needs to get this message out to EVERYONE ASAP
