  1. I know I'm really diving back, but I have questions. This may take quite some time to get the complete answers as to why Skip Holtz failed here. Maybe nobody cares either. What makes it tough to understand is how he was successful everywhere else but terrible here. I'm not trying to bring up argumentative points but to really understand why. Was it a Skip Holtz issue? Was it a USF issue? I remember the football team having issues with their APR score and teetering on penalties...was that a factor?

Looking at Skip Holtz's coaching record, He seems to have a winning record everywhere but USF? Why?

Joiner I thought would have a break thru season but he doesnt have the power to break thru the line.  Battie I'd like to see vs a better defense than Memphis to see if that was a fluke or if he really is that good.  But he looked great last week.

None of the running back on the roster "have the power to break through the line." They are all too small. The biggest difference I can see is that Battie is running outside a little more frequently than Joiner is but also gets upfield quicker, which I really like. I just hope to see someone back there one day that is north of 200 lbs.....

So have we fired our 1st year head coach, who was left with zero talent, couldn't properly recruit, train, mentor, and work with his staff due to a pandemic?

    Asking for a friend

We should have no issue hiring another coach who wants to work under those circumstances...

The one where he got sacked on 2nd down trying to throw the ball ....... and was that definitely a designed qb draw? If so, the wr to the left apparently missed the call because he didn't touch the corner who was blitzing in on the snap and effectively sealed off any chance of NJ breaking to the outside. Sometimes the play calling doesn't look so hot when the execution's not there ...

No one disagrees that our current roster is not going to allow anyone to go undefeated what I take umbrage with is that it’s not talented enough to go .500 in the AAC and that it was completely decimated in a single season but that it will take three seasons to get back to where it started. The current talent level was able to beat the number 9 team in the country one year ago  and if that much can change in a single season it would be nice to see our current coach get on the positive side of that change instead of seeing how far we can plummet.

That game was a fluke....there are fluke games every year. By the way, BYU played their redshirt freshman QB in his first ever game. They made a deal about it because he was the first African American QB to ever start for BYU. BYU went on to beat #14 Boise St. after losing to USF (also the third loss in a row for BYU that season, lost to Washington, Toledo, USF in that order) BYU also finished the season 7-6.

McCloud was 7-14 for 72 yds passing in that game...FLUKE

He should absolutely be winning more than 1 FCS game with them, the only reason people have lowered their expectations to the indefensibly low standard that CJS has delivered thus far is because they have to and not because it holds up to any scrutiny, critical thought or their expectation coming into the season.

This team is terrible. Very few quality players. Whether you read them or not I would suggest reading this linked article. It explains clearly why USF football is in the shape it is. This is not Jeff Scott's doing. Other than a few play calls here and there I don't see where this coaching staff is failing (yet).

Our defense is TINY. They cant get pressure on the QB.  They get run over. The DB's struggle in coverage because the QB can grab a beer and eat a sandwich before he decides to throw the football. The best D-lineman is an FCS transfer!!

Our offense is not good. That starts with the offensive line, which is subpar. There is a lack of size at the RB position..so much so they had to convert a recruited DB to running back for some size back there. The QB play has not been good.

I see these guys getting physically dominated. How do you overcome that? Tulsa has a LB that is 6'4" 260..THAT IS BIGGER THAN MOST OF OUR DE'S. Our LB's are between 210 and 225 I believe. They were smaller than several RB's they have faced this year.

So to think this staff (who has never coached together before) should have been able to take this team and do better than 4-8 with a MUCH TOUGHER schedule, no spring football, no in person meetings until fall, no in person workouts with S&C, abbreviated fall camp with minimal contact, players missing every week due to COVID, is nonsense.

Even your messiah Jim Leavitt would look like crap with this bunch.

BTW this is the article I mentioned at the top of my post. This is reason #1 why we are in the position we are.

Tell me what play call was made that got the score from 17-14 Temple to 21-17 USF...

Now having watched the 2 pt try and seeing Temple line up with 9 in the box, it was failed from the beginning. That would have been a perfect time for St. Felix to release his block and sit in the middle of the endzone. I watched the 2pt play at 1/2 speed. Blocking failed. St. Felix only put his hand on someone, neither f the pulling o-lineman ever blocked anybody, and the TE got pushed back into the backfield. BUT watch the DB's for Temple on that play...they were ALL run defense on that play. This may morph into another play where the play flows as usual for the qb sweep but NJ stops and takes a step back to deliver a pass to a potential wide open St. Felix in the endzone.

That play doesn’t even work against our crap D.  For you to defend that call is ridiculous, it was bush league and you are the only one claiming he guessed wrong and therefore should be absolved of any fault because it was just as likely the play would have worked than any other one.

Seems to me I've seen several td's scored over the top of daquan evans this season?? Against Temple in the left corner of the end zone and against ECU in the right?? Both seemed that he had his back turned and had no visual of the ball. They were easy catches by their recvs. And, on his back it said, Evans. That kinda helped me out...ha! But..he did snag an interception w/ a good run back sooo... I'll watch this next game see if they try him again same situation.   Disclaimer: I was wrong once before in life around 1990 so I always leave room for possibilities...and, I can cover these receivers a lot easier from my recliner than he can during the game...😅

Sorry just from my quick memory. It seems Nick Roberts is getting beaten constantly and is also missing tackles.

Defense played better but our DBs are not very good.

This is seen on a bigger scale because the D-line is not getting push on a consistent basis. I think that’s more of an issue. Pressure on the QB (especially Temple’s QB) (He’s not good) helps the secondary immensely.

If we got more pressure and actually hit the QB, this game would have been a 2+ TD win.

Our best Defensive lineman is a transfer from Wofford......

I agree big time with #1-#5. I don't agree with what CCS left here. I think he got good recruits that had plenty of P5 offers. I think they just didn't develop. And the players kicked off the team weren't impact players or were already graduating. And Devontres Dukes came back. I don't like throw away years, you should always try to make a bowl game. It's not fair to the student athletes on the team. i think we can make a bowl game if we start Noah Johnson.

Recruiting rankings taken from Bulls 247:

              National    ACC

    2013:    54            1

    2014:    42            1

    2015:    66            1

    2016:    66            5

    2017:    76             5

    2018:    65            3

    2019:    77             5

    2020:   109           9 (90% CCS commits)

    2021:     50             3 (So Far)

    Recruiting is the #1 problem

Also please tell me what you have seen from Noah Johnson that makes you think he is better than Jordan McCloud? That TD drive against ECU was against backups in garbage time. I'm not in love with McCloud at QB, but I haven't seen anything that has been better on this team.

Obviously you enjoy losing every game then. If you've ever been around football, there is what you call a "gamer". Guys who step up on game day and perform well. We know we CANNOT win with McCloud, but we send him out there anyway. I just dont understand why we cant try something new, regardless of if hes playing well in practice.

Also a wildcat offense would work better. It's where you put an athlete back there and he runs, sweeps, screens, reverses. I dont know how we can defend 17 points vs ECU with an offensive minded coach while getting blown out

Did you watch the game last week? Didn’t several different QB’s play....Which one do you want to play Other than McCloud? HONESTLY AND FACTUALLY DEFEND YOUR STANCE.

No different style of offense would be better...this Oline is NOT GOOD
