A loss to FAU is fine. We prob have a better chance at losing than winning. A loss to FAU does not derail the season, in the grand scheme of things for this season it doesnt hurt much. We need to win the Conference Tourney to get to the dance anyways.

The perception of a 20 point blow off loss when you fill the arena up for the first time in 21 years, would be the same thing that happened 21 years ago. Need to atleast make this a game. A win is very possible and would be huge for this program.

We lose a game by 8, you tip your hat and hope to get them next time.

Worse thing that could happen is FAU beats the breaks off of us, that will bring the SMU crowd back to our typical 4k crowd. Beat FAU and expect that place atleast 75% full.

Last time we had a crowd this big i guess was against syracuse in 2012. we averaged 4k before that game and averaged 5-6k(big east schedule) after.

it's normal to get a boost in attendance for a ranked team at home. regardless of how good/bad you are.

towards the end of that season we played #12 U of L and got 7,500 in attendance. we were 10-15 at the time.

I get building on the momentum and obviously more people come out to see a winner but this one game won't define this team or this season.

100% yes it was, the collapse of that season was exactly what those of us who follow the program do not want to see again.

so if we lose to fau then our season will collapse?

I guess you should be more worried about us beating fau, as we did wvu, and then losing out.

So the same old USF will win this game and **** the bed the rest of the season .......

    exactly!

You do though see how a bad loss gives into the perception that this is the same old USF. Whenever we have a huge stage we typically USF it up. I think this team is different, but they need to prove it.

I'm not sure why people say same old usf. we have won some pretty big games in our day.

was it same old usf when we beat a top 5 wvu at home?

do we win them all? no. neither does any other program.

this is one game. don't make it out to be anything more than that.

there is a high variance when relying on 3 point shooting. it could be a blowout in either direction.

With our defense, home court advantage and the way we have been shooting, I like our chances.

Agree. But just talking about the optics and getting people back in the building to support the rest of the season - and next.

our overall body of work will take care of this.

Football we got blown out in back to back games against uab and fau and I think our fanbase is pretty hopeful for the future.

I'd rather get blown out here and then win the rest of our games including aac tourney than win close and lose rest of our games. while attendance would dip initially I think it would be better in long run. can't put to much stock in one game.

This will be how USF football works on campus when the team is good. Our average over the years with mediocre teams is too close to the proposed OCS available seats. When the team is good and hot ticket teams come through, it's going to price most out very quickly with the limited seating and jacked up supply/demand prices. Not meaning to hijack the thread with an OCS post, but this is what will happen. Potential expansion of the on-campus football stadium needs to be massive if we ever intend (which I hope we are) on being consistently good/ in a power conference.

there is a reason why pro stadiums are getting smaller. they don't care about selling $5 tickets and neither should we.

No matter how good your offense is, you still need to play defense. Pryor struggles against physical bigs, see Charlotte game against Jackson.

Pryor will play because he’s obvi good, but Walker will step in if FAU’s big is feasting under the basket.

CAAR is a high IQ coach. I’m sure he’s cooking up something for the front court defense.

early in the year Walker played 23 minutes against CMU. Pryor 10.

The minutes have more than flipped since then and Pryor's offense is a big reason why we are winning now.

Last night we gave up 36 points in the paint. we only scored 16.

Pryor played 28 minutes and Walker played 12.

their big is going to score even if walker defends him. the question is do you limit your offense in the process.

Like I said we should worry more about their guards shooting 3's.

Absolutely agree. I watche FAU's last game and he was very dominate. Pryor can't guard him, that's for sure. I wonder who is going to have that task. Hopefully that person doesn't get into foul trouble early trying to guard him.

He'll get his points. Can't worry about that.

More worried about defending the 3.

5 of their top 6 scorers are guards who shoot the three at better than 34%.

Davis their leading scorer shoots 47% from behind the arc.

It’s going to be all about how we handle the big guy Goldin on Sunday. If he’s doing what he wants in the post and controlling the glass, we’ll be in trouble.

the guy will be tough to handle but we'll be fine.

we've been getting dominated in the paint all year including last night where we gave up 36 to our 16. we still won by 19.

we need to keep moving the ball and knocking down 3's. cut down on those sloppy turnovers.

I think on net this is good for USF -  it shows if you are good and put in the work you can get the NIL attention like anyone else out there.

Good for BB. Let's go 13 and freaking 0 this year baby and then, next f***n man up and next f*****n play

easier sell to come here now. come here and shine go sign a big deal with p5 program. better than sitting on some bench somewhere

I am going to sound like a broken record but can we stop with the thinking that this is a G5 thing?

    https://n.rivals.com/transfer_tracker/football/2024?transfer_position=qb

not personal to you but it's just every freaking thread about coaching or NIL, this insistence that all P5 programs have all their problems solved and woe is us for being in the G5... it's just not true.

Brian Kelly left a winning ND program to go to the SEC. Jim H goes from Michigan, wins a natty, and goes to the NFL.

QB Dillon Gabriel crushes it at Oklahoma and here comes bigger fish Oregon poaching him.

If we got an SEC invite today, any talented individual would always be at risk up because there will ALWAYS be a bigger fish.

Let's also not assume they're gone either, because sometimes, folks do want to pass on an extra few bucks and enjoy the culture and legacy they can build.

very true. more likely a p5 qb transfers to another p5 school.

    oregon state qb to fsu.

    ohio state qb to syracuse

    indiana qb to washington.

    aurburn qb to oregon.

    etc etc

I have never said anything about less 3's and our inside play, getting to the line, and rebounding have absolutely been a factor in many of the wins.   Going to the basket was brought up multiple times during the comeback against a weak Rice team.   Move along whippersnapper

we were 8-16 (1.0 points per shot)on 2 point shots in the 2nd half.

we were 9-16 (1.69 points per shot) on 3 pointers.

we were out rebounded once again and we gave up more points in the paint than we had as well.

look at the boxscores if you want to see the truth.

not some 3rd rate announcers analysis.

we came back and won because we played much better defense and we shot the 3 very well in the 2nd half.

same reason we have been winning all year long.

our offensive efficiency numbers(+70 spots) are way up this year in large part because a higher percentage of scoring is coming from 3 pointers(+116 spots).

but it's our defensive efficiency that has really been impressive (+104 spots).

our rebounding percentage has dropped (-135 spots) so that's not helping.

it is true that a higher percentage of our points are coming from the line this year so I will give you that

look at the stats and you'll understand why we're winning.

it's because we are shooting more threes and playing better defense. this is what analytics says you should do in order to give yourself a better chance to win.

  12. 26 minutes ago, olafberserker said:

    I've never said that.

It has been consistent throughout this streak and the comebacks that we have been active at the rim and on the glass.   It is consistently brought up in every telecast. And you conveniently added "get to and guard the rim" to your analysis.  Move along whippersnapper.  No team consistently wins without a presence on the boards

dude we are outscored in the paint and out rebounded in almost every game we play including against rice.

you suggested we could turn it around by driving to the basket and shooting less 3's.

we shot 9 of 16 from 3 in the 2nd half. that's why we won.

we are winning because of our 3 point shooting and our defense.

it almost has nothing to do with our inside play or rebounding.

Usually this happens when you're playing a better rested squad, but both teams are playing their 4th game in the past ten days.

Down 13 to a 3 win Rice squad smacks of a team uncomfortable in first place. Yeah, stranger things have happened, but let's freakin go.

lol a team uncomfortable to be in first place.....they shot poorly in the 1st half. nothing more nothing less.
