There is absolutely no logical reason to believe that, it’s a downgrade that makes zero dollars for the conferences that already have teams playing off campus. It’s as simple as UCF had success with something and they built a stadium, let’s pretend that’s the only way and focus on the stadium part (ignoring everything else) because it’s easier.

seems to me that the stadium isn't the only thing they have invested in.

we have a new indoor practice facility. I believe a new football center is in the works. They have hired new coaches in both major men's sports. I'm sure there are other upgrades planned as well.

you constantly complain about how we have been left behind and now that they are trying to do something about it you complain about that too. perhaps you should just go be a fan of ucf.

McLane stadium seats 45K, designed by same Populous and cost $266 million.....maybe $350 million in today's $.

Populous with 10K less seating couldn't come up with something similar for $320 million? Instead, we have an FIU, FAU, UCF and any highschool in Tampa skeletal steel support structure going in.

Kelly assured it won't bounce like UCF because it will have preformed concrete seating base (like FSU) but it sure will look like it as you walk up, around and under it. Next they will be telling us we got a great deal on green chainlink fencing and we are going full-UCF on the inside with it.

So it will feel like FSU's Doak as you are sitting but anywhere else it will look like FAU, FIU, UCF. I thought we waited to do it right and learn from their stadiums and not do the quick and dirty?

Not sure you realize the spike in construction costs we had with the great inflation of 2020.

prices of construction materials are up almost 60% from 2014.

That means a $266M stadium now costs roughly $425M.

And when this type of offense is not hitting, it leaves you one-dimensional. This type of offense will not last forever; history keeps repeating and this offense will eventually go out of style because some coach will start playing big men in the post and teams will not have any answer and won't have anyone to defend it.

When the US decided to play NBA players in the olympics in 1988, other countries were saying that we would not be dominant because we did not know how to play defense. Back in the 80s, NBA scores were outrageous like now. Those comments offended US players, who upped their defensive pressure and shut down teams. This ushered in an era of better defense in the NBA. Things will change again at some point in the future.

it doesn't leave you one dimensional. Playing this way allows cuts to the basket, drives to the basket, etc. It creates space on the offensive end.

Heck you can even post up  with a guy like Youngblood when he has an advantage.

Playing with a true big man that can only post up clogs the lane. it slows the ball down. there is a reason why the NBA didn't want Edey after his national player of the year last year. He is one dimensional.

Basketball has changed with the 3 point shot. Look at the stats. Teams shoot more and more of them since the advent of the shot. Attempts have steadily increased over time.

Analytics shows that it gives you a better chance to win. The NBA wants 3 and D guys. They want big men that can shoot the three. we will never go back to the 90's.

Reggie Miller led the league in made 3's with 1,500 of them during the 90's. That was 300 more than anyone else in the league.

Curry made 2,500 of them in the 2010's.

Glen Rice was #2 for made 3's in the 90's. He would rank #15 in the 2010's.

It's just like in baseball where everyone now understands that hitting home runs gives you the best chance for a win. even if you strike out more.  back in the 70's and 80's everyone was trying to hit for average.

Best 3 point shooters by decade in the nba

    1980-1990 Dale Ellis 472 made

    1990-2000 Reggie Miller 1,543 made

    2000-2010 Ray Allen 1,974 made

    2010-2020 Steph Curry 2,483 made

there is a clear trend since the advent of the 3 point shot. they will never go back to the bully ball of the 90's.

Need another big (with basketball skills, not just a big body) to compliment Pryor and Walker.

I'd like to see walker develop a 3 point shot. it doesn't look bad when he shoots it just needs to put the reps in.

get somebody else just like that and I would be happy.

I think if CAAR places his cards right with the transfer portal and can some how pick up a nice true big man that’s proven we would be better next year.

We did great this year and were able to over come not having a true center.

our offense worked this year BECAUSE he didn't play a true big man.

That's what stretch 5's allow you to do. Stretch the defense. I guess you would take Pryor off the court for this true big man.

Keeps driving lanes wide open. keeps the ball moving on the perimeter.

some of you people need to get out of the 90's. modern day basketball is played without true big men.

it's all about shooting 3's and driving to the basket now.

That is a very good analogy, I waited patiently for the following weeks episode to watch Arthur Fonzarelli jump the shark not knowing that this was the beginning of the end of Happy days.  Why did he jump it wearing his leather jacket, seems a little odd looking back.

interesting fact about the shark episode was that it aired at the beginning of season 5.

Happy Days had 11 seasons so it was nowhere near the beginning of the end.

I'm not so sure they will. Most of expansion has been viewed through the B1G's strategy - large markets, high quality and large fanbase universities who will organically draw a large TV audience (more eyeballs = more ad revenue = larger TV contracts, remember the B1G is not "P2" for winning championships in the last 20 years). The SEC strategy is more of a rivalry-heavy, regional approach to promote more butts-in-seats, highly competitive and personal competition (SEC's slogan is "It just means more" for a reason). OkSt is, undoubtedly, a rival for Oklahoma. Texas is their largest rival, absolutely, and the largest rivalry west of the Mississippi unquestionably, but OkSt still promotes a regional rival, with a large donor base, who can be competitive across the board in many sports year in and year out (including baseball, which the SEC also dominates). Would not surprise me if the SEC eventually invited OkSt and Kansas (Mizzou's largest rival, historically) to solidify their western presense, while expanding into NC and possibly Virginia as well.

Long-term, if the SEC goes to 24, that will mean 8 new schools. When you think about where the SEC values their expansion, it's "like" institutions culturally and athletically, with a heavy regard for regional rivalry. If they added 8 schools, my guess is they will be the following - FSU/Clemson/UNC/Duke/OkSt/Kansas/VaTech/Miami. This doesn't mean the next round of expansion, this doesn't mean within 10 years, but long-term, I think these schools will gravitate towards each other. Same with us and c, I think we end up back in the same conference eventually.

SEC won't take on a bunch of leftovers just for the sake of expanding. dilutes their product and means less revenue for current programs.

there is a reason most pro sports leagues settle around 30 teams. add big 10 and sec and you have nfl lite.

And that's the big gun they have to our heads. Everyone can clearly see the separation already. But making it official with these contracts would be a big deal to mark the ACC and Big 12 as second tier. The threat here is accept this offer or we leave and you're worse off.

once they realize they can take all the revenue, they will split off completely. this is just a giant first step to that happening.

Unfortunately there's nothing either can really do to make the P2 be P3, but the name of the game is being relevant enough with schools that are important enough that you don't get left out of the party, even if you're sort of a second class citizen. Beats the situation the G5 would be in.

sec and big 10 will break off.

it will destroy acc and big 12 tv money. networks won't want to pay ridiculous money for their streaming rights.they will be closer to g5 than they will p2.

In their quest to attain ever-increasing revenue these conferences are killing CFB.   There will be a trickle down though, eventually may affect other sports.  When will we see schools drop out and the adverse consequence of less opportunity for college students?   And when will they turn on each other?   It is going that way.

they aren't killing it. there will be a split though and honestly there needs to be.

most division 1 schools can't compete with the top 30 or so programs financially.they need to break off and form their minor leagues.

It's gotten to the point where schools are becoming fiscally irresponsible when it comes to what they spend on athletics.

most schools operate in the red. Maybe if they split then some fiscal responsibility will return to these schools that can't compete.

If you're Purdue you run a zone and never require Edey to leave the paint to defend make sure USF doesn't get any offensive rebounds.

Walker and company are likely to get into foul trouble against a big like Edey or Clingan. I was just throwing it out there as a thought to eat up some minutes. We saw how quickly and easily Goldin was able to score when FAU adjusted their offense. With that being said, Clingan definitely is a matchup nightmare for everyone. UCONN is by far the scariest team in the NCAA.

we would eat their zone alive. shooters break zone defenses.

I saw them run a 1 man zone against wisconsin earlier this year. Edey just stood under the basket.

Goldin had 15 in the 2nd half. all of those in the last 12 minutes. Our defense completely broke down and we played way too conservative on offense. I believe I heard that they scored 41 points in the last 8 minutes. That's a 205 points per game pace. That's terrible all around defense. not just on goldin.

    UConn is legit.

Sometimes you just have to pick your poison

As far as the original poster's question, that would be a very nice draw. The only thing that could make it nicer would be being in with Houston or Arizona/Tennessee/UNC (whomever the 4th #1 ends up being). Purdue and UCONN will present nightmare matchups for us in the paint with Edey and Clingan. We saw what can happen when Goldin finally got going for FAU. Goldin is 7'1'' 240 lbs. Corey Walker, Jr. and even Pryor could body up against him and cause some problems or at least slow him down. Clingan is 7'2'' 280 lbs and Edey is 7'4'' 300 lbs....talk about 2 giants that are in a class of their own.

I wonder if CAAR would give any thought to trying Tobiloba out there to neutralize bigs of their size. If not, the margin for error for USF shooting wise becomes very small.

Purdue has been eliminated in  their last three ncaa tourneys by #16 Farleigh Dickinson #15 St Peter's and #13 North Texas.

Edey can't defend the perimeter at all. Pryor would be a nightmare matchup for him.

Three point shooting teams that get hot are why upsets happen. You absolutely don't take a shooter off the floor for a slug defender.

the one issue we have, is we consistently get beat on the boards. Need to get a few guys that can box out.

we currently have the longest winning streak in the country.

we just won our first ever regular season conference championship and it wasn't even close.

I'm baffled that people think we need to change things.

Playing 4 guards who can shoot with a stretch 5 IS our system. of course it means we will get out rebounded consistently.

It's why we are winning. We shoot 3's and we stretch the floor. we defend the perimeter.

who cares if we get out rebounded. who cares if we give up more points in the paint than we get.we are WINNING.

BTW you have to find the minutes from somewhere if you want to give them up for guys who can box out.

should we give up pryor's minutes? maybe one of the guards?

Maybe Stroud should get some of youngblood's minutes? He's a much better rebounder.

I guess you could play walker and pryor at the same time. maybe give walker some of reid's minutes. or miguel's minutes

only a usf fan would think we aren't WINNING good enough

It has been mentioned a few times by some that we need to get some quality bigs. We have a 7-footer and another who is 6'10". If CAAR is true to his word about player development, we should not need anyone else if he can develop them to be effective players in his system. Maybe not by this fall, but perhaps by the fall of 2025.

maybe just maybe he realizes that it's better to trot out 4 guards who can shoot +40% from 3 out there with a stretch 5 that can hit them at +33%.

you don't need old school big men to win in modern basketball.

there is a reason why the nba doesn't want true bigs anymore.

maybe our coach is smart enough to realize this (seems to be working just fine this year)

maybe we should beg for tchewa back. after all he is averaging 7 points per game on 25 minutes. he can have some of pryor's minutes.

He TOTALLY misses our point and keeps saying the same thing over and over - NO ONE is saying we should change our philosophy and stop shooting threes. AGAIN, the point being made is, when you’re having an off shooting night like we had, the last thing we needed down the stretch was 3-point shots from Sam Hines and Brandon Stroud. That’s truly what drove me nuts at that point in the game.

Some people on here keep claiming we need a big man to score inside in order to win.

I disagree. I think we need shooters and specifically 3 point shooters to spread the floor. It gives teams the best chance to win and yes I think you keep shooting them even if they aren't going in. That's what shooters do.

Our coach seems to agree as he plays predominantly 4 guard sets with a stretch 5 in Pryor.

BTW I don't want Stroud or Hines necessarily shooting them either.

  16. 16 hours ago, goingbackbull said:

He needs to coach up one of the big men or bring one in  Doesn't need to be a scorer, just defend and rebound for 15 min a game

yeah we need someone to clog the lanes on offense and to kill the ball movement...

this offense needs a stretch 5. it's why it works.

Oh and I guess you would want to give this new big Pryor's minutes??
