Every passing year this becomes closer to long term, no one else is left and we need out far sooner than later. Would making the playoffs next year be awesome? Absolutely. Does the aac have an easy path to the playoffs in any year? Absolutely not. Will the aac champion make the playoffs the majority of years? Absolutely not.  Would I trade the playoffs next season for getting called up to any higher league and going 0-12 next season? Absolutely.

nah far from over. P2 will break off. probably take a few acc schools with them. we will move up and be a part of the best of the rest division

I have no doubt that you wouldn't mind going 0-12. From what I presume, you don't even go to the games.

I am not sure. Liberty ended being the top ranked non power 5 team last year. A good SMU team was beaten out. Than you still have to compete with the Mountain West. Really in order to make it to the playoffs you will need to be the top ranked Group of 5 conference champion (most years). I would prefer our chances in the Big 12 or the ACC, where you get multiple shots against ranked teams every year to prop up you resume

Big 16 and ACC will be one bid leagues.

ironically smu's two losses were against tcu and oklahoma. if they do what liberty did and not play anyone of note they would have been in. same with tulane if they had beaten smu.

We very well can make the playoffs this year, doesn’t mean that’s a desirable position long term

didn't say I want to be here long term. certainly don't want to be a whipping boy either.

I think we can compete in ACC or even big 16.

I'm enjoying winning for once. I'm ok with aac for now.

    6. Ohio State 45, Northwestern 24 (2018)

Northwestern’s first-ever trip to the Big Ten Championship resulted in a surprisingly entertaining game against the No. 6 ranked Buckeyes. This game featured a ton of offense, as Ohio State set the Big Ten Championship record for passing yards (499) and first downs (31) on the back of Dwayne Haskins’ MVP-deserving day.

Despite the dynamite offense from the East champs, the plucky 8-4 Wildcats were able to keep up with the Buckeyes for a large part of the game, even kicking a field goal to make the game 24-31 early in the fourth quarter. Ohio State pulled away in the fourth to cover the 16.5-point spread, but it was a high-scoring and entertaining game, with over 1,000 total yards on offense, that is far from the worst product the Big Ten had ever showcased in its title game.

    5. Ohio State 22, Northwestern 10 (2020)

Are you tired of reading about the Buckeyes in Big Ten title games? I’ve got bad news for you. After a tumultuous season of pandemic cancellations and wonky results, the No. 4 Buckeyes (5-0) took on the No. 14 Wildcats (6-1) in the second meeting of these two teams in three years of championship games. Once again, the Buckeyes were 16.5-point favorites and once again, Northwestern kept it competitive, this time even taking a 10-6 lead into the half.

There’s no way to describe this game that does not start with Trey Sermon. Even on a down day for Justin Fields, the Buckeyes running back went on a frenzy, collecting a Big Ten Championship Game record 331 rushing yards (and the MVP award) in one of the most dominant displays of offensive line play I can remember. In a mostly empty Lucas Oil Stadium, it wasn’t the prettiest contest — both quarterbacks threw two interceptions, including a jaw-dropping end-zone snag by Brandon Joseph — but it was a competitive game that deserves a middle-tier spot in the rankings.

outliers. blown out and covid year.

last stand alone title was in 1995 before that 1936

yeah sign me up for winning a title once every 60 years....

at that rate they should get another one by 2055.

of course they have added some pretty tough programs recently.

name the last time south carolina won the sec

they were 4-4 in the sec this year

they have played in championship game once and got beat 56-17

imagine how tough it will be with OU and texas moving in

We have zero WVU’s in this conference, these are the people that replaced the teams that replaced the teams that replaced WVU. I had WVU and Louisville as some of my favorite wins as well but nothing like that exists even relatively close to them here. From the BEAST only one team remains after a few rounds of changes and what we have now is not ever going to resonate locally or nationally. You are comparing apples to ****

and you are complaining about our conference and saying we need out and using out of conference game wins as your examples.

we can still play and win games against those programs.

we can also make the playoffs easier in this conference and play games that actually matter.

  6. 9 minutes ago, puc86 said:

Not one of those teams has ever once discussed moving down and every few year they have a season that just is not possible in the aac. Who in the aac would rather be those teams? Everyone

of course the administration doesn't want to move down. they make a ton of money.

I bet their fans would enjoy winning more often

give me an example of an even remotely successful conference season for one of those programs and I'll show you an outlier.

  7. 1 minute ago, puc86 said:

Still felt better and still got way more discussion and credibility. No one cares if you beat UNT and UAB, playing a schedule full of them is the problem

and yet we played them when we were in a lower level conference.....and it's not even a blip on the radar for their fans

oh and they got nowhere near the discussion that beating a top 5 wvu at home got and they were in our lowly conference as well.

    they were one off wins.

the way you make noise is to win your conference and then beat a good team in a bowl.

nobody nationally cares about a win against what ends up being a 7-6 p4 program

Greater opportunities, exposure and resources. Being David and beating Goliath is absolutely the best. But most of the time you won’t even get Goliath’s attention, if you do there is no way you are getting him to show up and if you try to beat him with a rock he is just going to blow your head off with a .50 cal.

Much like the little mermaid  I want to be where the people are and no one I’ve ever met irl gives a **** about this under the sea athletics league even with a passing interest.

No one can tell me that the aac experience now hits the same way that our BEAST experience did and it has as much to do with being in the aac as it does with winning.

all of which vandy, indiana, northwestern, south carolina, etc etc have had for quite some time.

I guarantee if we win the aac next year and get a playoff spot it will far surpass any experience we had in the big east.

They said “My favorite memories as a USF fan are those where our teams have won at the level they were at.” Most of my favorite wins are against people above us where we shook the world and got coaches fired for such a travesty. Truth be told if we were in the SEC it wouldn’t take long for me to wonder why we are limiting ourselves to the college level.

we shook the world against what turned out to be mediocre teams.

    fsu finished 7-6. miami 7-6. auburn 8-5. clemson 6-7. notre dame 8-5

I loved the wins but they were one off wins.

we are 1-3 against florida state

    1-5 against miami

    heck we are

    2-7 against rutgers

4-6 against temple for god's sake

we don't even have a winning record against two of the worst programs in the history of college football.

I enjoyed the wvu win much more than any of the others. top 5 team at home in a conference battle. a team that finished the year 11-2.

Beating Florida and talking trash to their fans about how we beat them is worth more than any number of wins that can take place against an aac team of which I will never encounter a fan.

More importantly not one UCF fan wishes they went back from the b12 to the aac and not a single Vandy fan has ever called for moving down.

I’d rather be the biggest loser is only a fairytale people tell themselves to feel better about being in lower leagues anyone that actually likes competing at lower levels isn’t a competitor

funny but our biggest crowd in our basketball history came in the wasteland that is the aac against a conference opponent

oh and the crowd was 90% usf fans.

seems to me you were scrambling to get a ticket

I’m perfectly fine with losing more against competition of consequence and renown; being the best minor leaguer is never once in life better than making it to the bigs.

so having UCF's recent success wasn't more enjoyable for their fans than say Vandy's recent history?

ask WVU fans if they liked their time in the BE more than Big 12.

BTW I would like for us to join ACC or big 12. I think we could compete in football.

I would hate for us to be in SEC. Think we would be perennial doormat.

if that is true, would the opposite also be true? Should one declare anything a homerun hire or a good hire before a season plays out? I can admit I was 100% wrong on basketball. I hated this hire.  We hit a homerun, and as much as I hate early extensions we may need to do it here. Pay this man.

Football, I hated as well. We are 100% moving in the right direction, however I am still not as convinced as others that we are as good as many on this board think. Golesch gets an A for last year. Solid hire at this point, but I am not convinced we see the amount of success so many expect next year.

For the record I loved the Jeff Scott hire, the Strong hire, the Taggery hire, and the Holtz hire. I loved the Heath hire, hated Antigua, and liked Gregory. So I am not always anti hires.

I have done it in the past. Hated strong hire. loved scott hire.

I think it's pointless now to think one way or the other before we see the evidence. I guess I'm hopeful now when we make a hire and will give the benefit of the doubt until proven wrong.

This has been my only real issue this year with this team.  I hate the hanging back until there's 10 seconds on the play clock and then the rush is on to beat the clock.  I bet we turnover the ball without a score 75% of the time in that scenario.

    GO BULLS!

drives me crazy anytime a team does it. you're right. either results in a turnover or a bad shot that's rushed to beat the shot clock.

I wish I beleived it. I know the game has changed and Bigs are not as important but I feel the lack of a Big to defend a strong  Big is gonna hurt us as some point.

tell that to fairleigh dickinson, or st peter's or north texas. they all beat purdue and zach edy in the last 3 ncaa tourneys.

we have 3 guys shooting over 40% from 3. that's how you win in today's game

better floor spacing. better ball movement. keeps lanes open for drives to the basket.

statistically it's like having 3 big guys that shoot +60% from the field.

It does not make one a better fan just because they think USF can do no wrong. Its 100% fine to call it how you see it.

the problem is some of you see it only one way every time.

many of you wrote this off as a bad hire before we ever played a game. did the same with football.

maybe  let a single season play out before deciding what type of hire we made.

I actually go into a rematch on a neutral court in Texas with LESS confidence. I think FAU comes back much stronger against us and we don’t have that early 25 point lead to play around with. I’m worried about a potential rematch. At this point, our path to the tournament goes through winning the conference tournament, which likely means a rematch with FAU. I’m not increasingly confident we can beat them a second time. Let’s see how the rest of the season plays out for us. If we can bring it together and play two full halves in the remaining games and prove to be solid heading into the postseason, my confidence will grow. Great new kind of learning experience today for this team. A lot of be proud of and a lot to look forward to.

we let them back into that game. didn't go for the kill.

they had 16 field goals made with 10 minutes left in the game and 14 the rest of the way.

we didn't attack on offense. we kept pulling the ball out and waiting for 10 seconds left on the play clock to run our set offense. results in bad shots

hopefully we learn that we need to be aggressive until the final whistle. move the ball and keep shooting 3's

  17. 39 minutes ago, abochner said:

We had them all the way.  Some very questionable refereeing.  Don't often see a 5 point play.  But give credit to FAU, they are a character team.  Fought hard.  Not sure why we didn't see more of Youngblood in the 2nd half.  Love our coaching.  No panic at the end.  Only weak ness on this team is in the paint.  Hard to stop teams that drive the lane.

    foul trouble

  18. 11 hours ago, Cmr3 said:

That’s true we have gotten dominated the whole year inside, the only game that we lost in the conference though the big had 20 something points.Like some one else said we need to maybe try Pryor and walker in the game at the same time, because walker can play big man better then Pryor.

Maybe we can try some zone and see if maybe they’ll be off from long range, I would try that first if I was the coach. Make them beat me from the outside and if they’re hot then adjust.

The good thing about USF this year is we have played people close and played  great when we were down and with a lot pressure. Even the single game we lost in conference, we played bad and missed a lot free throws, we only lost that game by a couple points.

I think you have to defend the 3 first and foremost. 6 of the top 8 scorers are guards who all shoot 3's at 34% or better. 2 of the 6 well over 40% including their leading scorer. Those aren't guys you let get open looks by playing zone.

UAB's big beat us at the free throw line. Only had 12 points from the field.

They only had 28 points in the paint to our 24.

They went to the line 41 times in that game.we went 19 and shot 47% from free throw line. It was such a poorly officiated game it was ridiculous. Pryor fouled out as did Hines. Knox, Miguel and Walker each finished with 4 fouls. Not going to win many games when the refs take out the better part of your lineup due to foul trouble.

Playing our style doesn't guarantee you win every game but it gives you the best chance to win.

You shoot 3's and attack the rim.  defend 3's and defend the rim.

We're not talking about $5 tickets here. We're talking reasonable $20-$30 seats. If all of a sudden, demand outweighs supply in our football OCS, I guarantee you the fans on this forum will be outraged that tickets are $80-$100+ with $25-$30 parking and high concession stand prices. They'll be saying it's not worth taking their 2 kids and wife to the game when it'll cost them $300+. Because of that, that fan and his family won't get to experience USF football in person. USF doesn't have a TON of fans relative to big time programs. Those "fans" don't stick around when the team isn't great. We'll be struggling to fill up the smaller sized stadium when the team isn't in 1st place. It's a chicken or the egg scenario in creating a fanbase. The fans need to be introduced with acceptable pricing levels while the demand is low enough and that's not going to be possible if the casual fan is immediately squeezed out from instant demand with limited supply when the glory fades. Not saying we need 60k seats but if we average say 35,000-38,000 and all of a sudden we're great and we want to welcome in new fans to an additional 4500-7000 seats, prices are going to skyrocket for the casual fan looking to see the Bulls. None of you will like that. That's also going to shoot up your season precious ticket prices as well many of those on this forum complain about when pricing changes or they can't pick their favorite seat for some reason.

smaller stadiums are done for economic reasons. they make more money.

they don't care about casual fans that won't pay  a sufficient price to cover the cost of the expansion.

just back of the envelope math says that a 350M stadium with 35,000 seats costs 10k per seat to build.

    a $20 ticket for 6 home games generates $120 per year. That's $2,400 over 20 years.

Doesn't come close to covering the cost of expansion.

I know the math isn't exact but there is a cost/benefit to consider.
