Greatest upset?? Getting a football team at all. Back in the ancient days when I attended USF as an undergrad, a student organization was founded (the Brahman Football Organization) to try to drum up interest in football. There was none. The school administration was not interested, the athletic department was luke warm at best, alumni indifferent, students apathetic, community support non-existent. It took a monumental effort by Paul Griffin and a core of boosters and the encouragement of President Frank Borkowski to get the ball rolling. Hiring Lee Roy to be in charge of football fund raising was brilliant by PG. Still, football was not a certainty until the Faculty Athletic Committee met and approved the feasibility study and allowed serious fundraising to begin. Considering the anti-athletics beginnings at USF and the apathy that followed, just getting a football team was a HUGE upset at USF. Normal
