  1. This is what's going to happen. Yah, he's a "kid" but he needs to learn that there are consequences to his actions. Maybe he won't be so quick to sign a binding contract in the future. Chalk it up to a learning experience. Binding contracts are a two way street my friend...UCF must honor their end of the bargain just as he must. That also means they cannot coerce, eroneously represent, knowingly and overtly lie to secure his signature. You and I are protected by law from someone that does this, and so why just because Smith's family doesn't have the means to secure an attorney he's suppose to 'chalk it up to a learning experience'. That's more a socio-economic issue then reality because in reality if UCF did what the kid and his parents are saying they did he could sue them and get an immediate release. Learning experience perhaps, but a painful one and not one he should have to endure if they did what he is claiming.
  2. Your post is ridiculous on many levels. 1. It is an NCAA violation for a school to recruit signed players. No school would attempt such a thing. 2. If you suggest boosters would do it, that is also illegal, and could render the player ineligible depending on the circumstances. 3. UCF has a recruiting budget that is set aside each year. Each year they spend in excess of $300k in recruiting, like all schools, to suggest recruiting Smith was excessive, or they spent an inordinate amount of money on him then others is asinine, and depending on it an NCAA violation too. UCF was going to spend that money whether Smith ever signed or not, it's like when a sales company budgets travel expenses for their sales staff....it's getting spent one way or another. 4. Also I forgot where UCF was required to travel to Louisville and recruit Smith, who was already committed...they did that on their own fruition. No one forced them, they picked him to see. So it's no one's fault they picked a kid that was more work and further away. When can USF go after kids that decommit? We spend the same amount of money? Shouldn't Louisville have the same beef as you? They spent money too on Smith...but the opportunity costs only matter to the thief, and not the victim? Now that there is buyers remorse O'Liar cries foul but failed to consider UL's opportunity costs in recruiting Smith before? 5. Lastly it is funny you admit UCF has two QB's and second year guys...so why did Smith commit to UCF suddenly after being so ardently for UL for a period of longer than a year. It had quite a few people scratching their heads in KY, and FL. Within a month of signing day the kid suggested to all he was lied too, and the circumstance you're explaining certainly seems to add credence to his position.
  3. These are kids...any person that says 'to protect the program' when it comes to a kid not wanting to go their school and wants to force him needs to get a life. That person is far to tightly wound up on this recruiting trip that is college athletics. Get off the boat, decompress, and get a life is what I have to say. I'd have had a modicum of understanding with UCF's plight had they not trekked all the way up to Louisville to fight for this kid knowing good and well he was committed to UL. They forcibly, and possibly coercively, fooled the boy into believing UCF was a better place. This is a child's life, and people are pathetic that deal with it like it is a 'gotcha game'. These coaches are dealing with it like it's a high powered business deal, and putting immense pressure on these kids, and then we want to blame the children!?!! Talk about exploitive. I never was for these kids getting paid but after hearing so many on this thread want to refer to this kid as some type of commodity, and how the programs are more important then the child's well-being....it makes me cringe...really it does. This is still a kid that made a dumb decision under extreme duress, and possibly with two sides lying significantly to him to make him make a rash choice. He's a poor kid, with limited means, and they took advantage of that ignorance and now tell him to bad. Jeez if so much is riding on this kid's decision then I think the NCAA should re-think about paying these kids income. We're exploiting them beyond belief, and then telling them when things don't go how they planned, or if the school lied to them..."TO BAD!" I hope this blows up in UCiF's face, in O'Liar and all his double dealing face, and in college football's face. Call the kid what you want but it was a tough decision, if he regrets it the NCAA should allow him out with no penalty if he can show reason, at worst he should be allowed out and be allowed to go to whatever school he wants providing he must sit a year. Be humane O'Liar shouldn't have the right to decide this child's fate like he is a deity and can bargain and parcel with this kid's livelihood. The NCAA should give no school or coach that kind of power.
  4. If I was UCF I'd be careful crying foul when there are foxes in your own hen house. The method of coercion allegedly used by UCF to lure this kid was hardly quality, nevermind the incessant allegations that UCF has never stopped the dirty tactics in recruiting that got their hand slapped the first time by the NCAA. Yeah, from what I hear the last thing UCF wants to do is get the NCAA down here sniffing around their compound-- never know what they're going to dig up. if you read the recent quotes from Oleary on Smith's last visit just 2 weeks ago he admitted that "there is a lot of stuff going on up there"(Louisville)..........I know you and Louisville fans will keep using the resume thing from over 10 years ago to assume Oleary did something wrong but it's most likely a case where he was still being recruited after his LOI and possible involvement by Louisville boosters. I hope the NCAA is sniffing up in Kentucky. Coach Kelly is a good man and would not spew lies What are you spouting off about 'the resume thing' for? The coercion accusation was by more than one source, and in all cases its been alleged that UCF made Smith feel there were positional circumstances at UCF that were not there. My other accusation is not an accusation at all. UCF was given a hand slap by the NCAA for recruiting violations and told that if they do it again then next one would be major. The NCAA found UCF's issues were not accidental and very blatant and called some of the violations "MAJOR." Improper contact, excessive calls and texts...add it up and the pile starts to smell like **** over there in Orlando. With that being said it's been alleged by some that UCF has never stopped those actions. And the spots on a leopard never change...O'Liar is the same curmudgeon who called the Slantinel liars, and refused to talk to them because of their reporting on Plancher...it appears they were more right then what he told them (psst, he lied to the Slantinel-- so he still lives up to the O'Liar moniker). Now he was great with Smith but once the Smith called him to politely ask for a release he suddenly goes into O'Liar mode denying any release, whining like a *****...he knew what he was getting into stealing a recruit from another school. He knew what he was getting into going to KY and stealing a player like that....this isn't a gotcha game. What a puke, make no mistake Smith was committed to UL before O'Liar and crew began to spin their intricate web of lies.

  6. He's an idiot, and a dolt. He is inaccurate because his assessment is all encompassing and not qualifying. Was USF's baseball facility one of the worst college facilities in the entire southeast? Hardly, he'd have to look at all the JUCO, DII, DIII, and NAIA schools before arriving at such a conclusion, and I know he has not done that. I for one have seen quite a few JUCU, and DII schools who's facilities were no better, or in fact worse, then Red. Therefore it was a pot-shot, or just awful reporting/writing. You be the judge which it was, probably equal parts of each since Brandon is a horrible writer too. The only way that statement is close to being accurate if he qualified it properly by saying 'one of the worst Division 1 facilities in the southeast. That was possible, but that is one that would be far closer to being accurate then being the worst 'college' facility in the Southeast.
  7. Great news and thanks for the update. Highest recruit on our radar according to ESPN. Hopefully Holtz can land this WR, since he would be a top 5 overall recruit this year. not eligible though. He would be a sign and place if we do.
  8. What I liked that he said tonite was that If he was going to commit. he would make a "secret commitment to Coach and then have a ceremony on NSD" Sounds like he has thought this plan out to me. I think he knows what Andre Davis is doing as well. Great conversation, I really like this young man. I think he has a 3.9GPA...real smart kid and good, versatile athlete. I personally think he's got the work ethic and ability to play QB if they gave him the window...or be a real good safety. His contacts, and family contacts are amazing. Playing in the Skyline league his dad was a coach, and Josh a big time QB player...made a name for himself at Freedom when they had a great team (where he became good friends with Keith Lewis and crew), and then at Da Wood. Mama, his mama also graduated from USF....can you guess the family fav? ;D
  9. +1 and we already have one of those in Hopkins. Devin's good, but he's not graduating HS, or at least not with what's needed to get into a 1-A school.
  10. He could also help with kids like Andre Davis, Ruben Gonzalez, Chickillo, and 2012 Armwood RB Matt Jones. He's already helped us out in this class. We've had an Armwood pipeline for years but people fail to notice. Ken Dawson, Buie, Mike Williams, Keith Watts, Ryne Giddins, and more.
  11. As you should be. The talent is availlable but so short on an experience at a position that relies on experience to excel. This unit will stumble a bit this year before excelling. Some youngsters will hit walls, I like where it will be for the future but the short-term will have it's ups and downs.
  12. To get where we want to be, we're going to need to do both .... THIS year it's more important to beat UF than win the BE ... So let it be written. So let it be done. and if it doesn't happen what then....beating UF would be great but not necessary right now. Win the BE this year would be great, but hardly likely at this point. My hope is we fight with them for 3 quarters, keep it a game, and make them remember they played USF and not think of us as another early season fodder game. They're still returning so much from a 13-1 squad and if Brantley lives up to billing I fully expect them to make another run at the SEC crown this year. This program is building for big runs in 2011 and 2012. I am more excited thinking about 2011 going to ND with Scott, and Aycock as weapons for BJ, BJ's full knowledge of the offense, and having Griffin, Love, and Landi as his primary targets with a sprinkling in of a Lamar who finally works the kinks out of his learning curb at receiver. That would be a great springboard to a big 2011 run at the BE title. That's what we're building for.
  13. I know it starts on September 11th, but it certainly doesn't end there. You better just not watch if you think he's going to win that or has any shot at it, or is building just to win it. He's not, he's building a program for long-term sustainability, not short-term visibility. With that being said even if he did a few short-term roster moves there's still a highly unlikely chance we'd beat UF so why even build with exclusively that game in mind. That would be stupid. We brought in Skip not to turn around a 2010 season, but to make sure that 5 years from now we're in a better overall position and plateau then if Leavitt had been leading the ship. I think that will definitely happen but vision and time is needed.
  14. yeah but what do you really have at corner? Washington is still slender, has never blown anyone away yet, and is reluctant to hit. Webster's best position is probably free-safety, Baker's renaissance thus far has only translated on the practice field, and T-Rex largely played rover and FS while at Hills High. This same defensive backfield allowed Dontavia Bogan, a guy that's really mostly a very good possession receiver, to toast them for over 200 yards in a spring game. Until Washington, and Baker show in the game that they've truly turned the corner, and until T-Rex gets in a game and rpvoes to be the real deal then you've got to keep Bryant around at corner. A team like us, especially in the BE where we face 3-4 spread offenses, will need 5-6 corners throughout the season.
  15. That's why I am surprised that Holtz and Boyd haven't tried to get a hardship waiver. from following this program closely i get the feeling holtz is building for break out 2011 and 2012 years, even if it means being ok with keeping talent like Boyd on the side. Exactly. Skip's job is for five years not five minutes. He is smartly not looking to sprint out of the starting blocks of a marathon. Not accepting Hayes was a smart deal for the long run. He was not an ideal fit for this offense and with Aycock and Scott coming in plus Murray it would foolish to carry this kid's schollie for two years. Keeping Evan Landi at WR full-time, not moving Bryant from corner back to WR (he's just starting to get acclimated with corner), not forcing Boyd to hardship when he's still not a sore hammy and needs to get himself in a good place academically, and personally before contributing. The list goes on and on of decisions Skip has made personnel wise that clearly show he's planning for the future and not the present.
  16. So can BJ Daniels. Your point is? That is all...the kid is still 5ft 10in, and he still can't be RoCal...which is absolutely pathetic in my eyes. But enjoy him. He's going to look good on the sidelines with his full set of gold teeth-- top and bottom. Which he insisted on wearing when he plays....and UCF has accomodated.
  17. I am not worried about this kid....it sounds like he has a very real possibility to move to OLB. Absent of being capable of landing top flight talent at a certain position the better option is to find big, rangy athletes with great athleticism and grow them into other positions. This kid could find himself to be a much better OLB down the road.
  18. I think we're better than Miami...anyone can look good against an out-of-condition, tired, and undisciplined defense that Mickey Andrews employs. His defense is so 1995, and every time FSU faces an opponent with similar talent his defense gets exposed. Only a fool would blitz 7 guys on 1st and 10 from your 35, with 3 minutes left and having such a suspect defensive backfield. The result is Jacori Harris steps back, and lofts a pass to Travis Benjamin and there wasn't an FSU player within an arm length of him. A slightly better throw and he walks into the end zone. Why should we worry anyway, we've got a decent offense and Miami yielded a LOT of yards to FSU's ok offense. You'r'e the guys that should be quaking in your boots. I am going to love to see Calabrese staring down those UCF receivers, with that ultimate frisbee throwing arm, and UM ready to pounce. But hey at least you guys have found a new returner. That should get you some points on the board.
  19. the time will come in another 3 to 5 years for expansion. What you need to do is stop the Sentinel from inciting people. I swear they are a wolf in sheeps clothing for UCF. Now they're beating a drum about UCF deserving to be in the BE. Certainly an argument can be made to that effect, but it also isn't wise to throw off such arrogance about it either. Especially when the sentinel, and Andrea Adelson, doesn't even contemplate BE Hoops in her discussions. She sounds so stupid, like a general fan, I feel sad for her publishing drivel like that. She talks about the television deal for the BE, but ignores the fact their hoops deals with CBS, ESPN/ABC, and Raycon, net the BE nearly $50M a year in revenue and collective are for 5-7 years and nets nearly $600M when added to the football deal. Not quite the SEC $2.25B, but that was signed last year, and that includes hoops and football. If she was aware, the reason we sit at 8 has nothing to do with ignorance, or arrogance. It has everything to do with the hoops schools not allowing expansion. IF, they had allowed it UCF would have already been a 'football only' member long ago. It was veto'd, and so was the idea of adding anyone else. The only type of reasoning the hoops teams will listen to is if a unbelievably compelling team was brought to the table thus the suggestions of Maryland, BC, and ND continued to get bantied about. UCF will be in, but it's better for the Sentinel to stop acting arrogant about it, and inciting the wrong people...the type of people who could choose an ECU, or Memphis, or add back a Temple if it so chose when the time came. UCF is working their angles I am sure, and it's a subtle play not something that should be blared through the tree tops. I think goodknightfl would agree with me on this. Give it time and within 3 or so years you'll be there.
  20. Chad, You prove to be so ignorant about hoops it isn't funny. First, there are guys every year that get drafted in the NBA, out of the BE, that were just above average Big East players. I'll help you with names and we'll just use the 2006 draft for argument sake since many of those guys have had a chance to cycle through the NBA somewhat- Marcus Williams (Uconn), Hilton Armstrong (Uconn), Steve Novak (Quette), Solomon Jones (USF), James White (Cinci), Denham Brown (Uconn). Take James White, drafted about the same spot as Jermaine, a HS all-american, a great 6-6 200lb wing/guard that could shoot. He's now in Europe. Denham Brown a 6-6 200lbs guard for Uconn has spent three years in NBA Developmental League, Marcus Williams (a 1st round guard, a HS all-american) was playing in Europe last year. I don't know if Jermaine would have been average, but he wouldn't have been much more then above average in the league, and definitely no better than Dominique Jones for us who struggled to make 2nd team. I mean the fact that the Rockets landed Trevor Ariza is a heavy blow to Jermaine's playing potential for them. Jermaine is not a PG, and at the guard/forward wing position Houston now has McGrady, Ariza, Battier. I don't even think it's a given Jermaine makes the opening day roster in Houston and that's not a slight it's just tough in the NBA. Especially for a guy that is a tweener, not quite fast enough in the NBA for PG, and not big enough for wing. The only reason why Solomon Jones sticks around, who was drafted in 2006 around the same spot as Jermaine is because he's 6-11, with a 38 inch vert, and his wing span is that of a 7-2 guy....despite that he's still only a bench warmer. Ditto for Novak who is a rare 6-10 F who is a skilled three point shooter, but to slow for defense. Oh, and why are you still on the Jordan v. Dumars thing? Mike's kids go to 3 different schools, why do you think he'll pour all his allegance and money into UCF over the others and his alma mater? As usual another UCF fan with his head in the clouds.
  21. I had heard that the Iowa offer was pulled, or was conditional. Which was why he went to UCF more easily. What does it matter really, the kid is not a phenom, and his brother already left Illini, which was where Marcus really wanted to go but never got an offer. He's a decent player, with a famous daddy, similar to our Jordan Dumars (although I standby the point that Jordan's potential in college is greater because he's 6-6+ and a highly proficient three point shooter). My original posts were tongue and cheek, as I assume UCFChad's were, clearly Michael Jordan is not planning to be an ambassador for UCF athletics, any more than he had planned to do it for the Illini. He's just a dad, who has 3 children-- maybe more if you believe the public allegations. Just having fun with the fatherly insinuations.... Don't get your hopes up we've had lots of players in our sport who's parent, or sibling was famous and it did nothing for us other than having a fine young student athlete on campus. We've had Wade Boggs, Herman Edwards, LeeRoy Selmon, Shaun King's brother, Gramatica brothers, Jesse Hester Sr....and there are more but we'd be jerks to expect more out of a father and the family then just being a supportive parent.
  22. Just wait until daddy shows up with a 4 million dollar donation and we go ahhh dancin.* Our daddy can show up with a $4 million dollar donation too, Joe Dumars made nearly $75M during his 15 year NBA career. AND, our daddy can give kids jobs out of college as the GM for the Detroit Piston's. :P
  23. I bet you our famous celebrity son, Jordan Dumars, is better than yours. Marcus was a late bloomer that never got offers like someone that likes to pumphissubscribers full of nuttinbuttagoodtime. Jordan played on the #2 ranked team nationally and was the team captain. Oh and he's 6-6 and a career .450 3pt shooter. I like ours better.
