  1. In today's New York Times, a doctor blames effects of concussions for Waters' depression: http://www.nytimes.com/2007/01/18/sports/football/18waters.html?_r=2&ref=sports&oref=slogin&oref=slogin
  2. Shoop: The back numerals are green on green trimmed in gold and white in a font like the football unis. No names.
  3. For those that didnt know, or notice, she recieved a cut on her arm and got blood on her jersey. She tried to find a replacement in the locker room, but I guess they couldnt so they gave her a jersey with no name on the back. Maybe its the whole MJ/Kobe number switching thing? I believe the NCAA requires all teams -- men's and women's -- to have a "blood jersey" available for just such an occasion. It is a jersey with a number not worn by any roster player.
  4. I believe that Murphy, who normally wears 3, put on 13 after PJ, the other 3, entered the game. I distinctly remember 13 making a tackle from the secondary. I think that 13 was one of those jerseys that the coaching staff keeps without a number for this kind of occasion.
  5. Of course, we've already had one ex-USF student as a world heavyweight champion....
  6. Mike Eylward played in Triple A in the Angels organization last year and it would be interesting to see if he gets a spring training invitation. Also David Austen dropped off the face of the earth last year (not on any minor league roster) with the Angels after a decent performance in spring training (could be an injury). After that, you have the recent signees down in lower A -- Casey Hudspeth, Chase Lirette, Brian Baisley. And I'm probably forgetting someone. None of those are likely to be on a Top Prospect list yet.
  7. Ivany was sent to the Hawaii Winter League and hit .286. It's a good sign when your organization sends you to the Hawaii or Arizona leagues after the season.
  8. Myron has filled out since his days here and finally started to become a power hitter. His glove was a liability at 3B, but his cannon arm and newfound power could make him a contender in RF.
  9. Veit is moving all of 200 feet in the Sun Dome to work for Action Sports Marketing, which apparently entails doing a lot of work for USF still.
  10. Rocky was wearing a basketball shooting shirt, not a jersey, Friday.
  11. We've lost convincingly to a Top Ten team and a team which just knocked off a Top 10 team. We barely lost against a mid-level Big 12 team. We beat an ACC team and a rival team. I think these are not too unexpected results based on the competition we've played. Yes, I wish we'd played better in our road losses, but with a young team, not that unexpected.
  12. Injuries were a factor, but this team rarely performed at its potential. Not a good season at all.
  13. Actually, I think I read that Wanny was apologizing for Strong's behavior in the end zone...and I'd be pissed if I had to do that as well.
  14. 1. Who is your Defensive "PlayMaker" (not MVP) of the season so far? Nicholas 2. In the first 100 games, what was your "High Light" game ? The first Pitt win 3. In the next 100 games, what do you think will be your "High Light game ? Bowl victory 4. Top recruiting need ? (1 Position) OL 5. Peanut Butter, smooth or crunchy ? Crunchier the better
  15. There's one thing on the plan I absolutely hate -- the traffic circle off the main entrance.
  16. Inexplicable quote of the year: I can't imagine what Larry Coker was thinking about when he said, ``I think that it will affect the image of our program greatly, but in a positive way . . . I think that when they see the video and they see how it was handled they will be impressed with our players.'' Edwin Pope called to end the series. For a hometown booster columnist to say something like that, you know it was even worse in person.
  17. I saw those shirts at the USF bookstore last week... Kickoff coverage was worse than bad. If Teachey didn't pin them in the end zone, the Huskies returners were a step away from a touchdown on almost every return.
  18. So why can't the HOT do some fund-raising? A well-run, ambitious fundraiser golf tournament can bring in plenty of money -- and it is clear that the band has enough people to seek out teams, raffle prizes, etc.
  19. If you're USF, you're going to get lousy spots and lousy calls on the road. Especially against an established name team like Kansas. That's the reality. Because we aren't an established name team, the reciprocal does not apply. I didn't like the four runs early, but I really didn't like that Moffitt was exposed so easily the week before a team with a REALLY good tight end comes to town.
  20. Southern Miss 37-17 over NC State. The Eagles racked up 28 first downs and 450 yards total offense. "Chuck Amato, you have 14 new voice-mail messages...and they're all from moving van companies..."
  21. You got a whole lot of TV time for a road game...the cameras liked you.
  22. ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) -- Matt Grothe threw a 27-yard touchdown pass to Ean Randolph with 3:27 left in the fourth quarter to lift South Florida over Central Florida 24-17 on Saturday. The Golden Knights (1-2) missed a chance to tie with 30 seconds left, but their 70-yard drive ended when Chris Robinson sacked Steven Moffett, forcing a fumble the Bulls recovered. Grothe, a redshirt freshman who won the starting job in the South Florida's first game after Pat Julmiste got hurt, won his third straight. He accounted for 375 of South Florida's 433 total yards, completing 21-of-31 passes for 302 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. Moffett looked rusty from the start, ending UCF's first two possessions with interceptions and nearly tossing another shortly afterward on a botched timing route. He repeatedly over and underthrew, missing an open receiver in the end zone on the final drive that could've tied the game, and finished with 219 yards on 19-of-44 passing and one TD. Central Florida was without leading rusher and last year's C-USA freshman of the year Kevin Smith, held out of the game for disciplinary reasons. Jason Peters racked up 98 yards on 20 carries in his absence. Both the Bulls' Trae Williams and UCF's Sha'reff Rashad recorded their third straight game with an interception. South Florida's 3-0 start is its second in the program's 10-year history (the team opened 5-0 in 1998). UCF remains winless against the Big East (0-10 since 2000). UCF drew a crowd of 46,000, the third-highest in school history, with some help from their opponents. A big group of South Florida fans made the 85-mile trip from Tampa, at times out-shouting the home crowd. Central Florida tied the game at 17 with 7:14 left after Jordan Richards blocked a bobbled punt snap, which Blake Carter scooped up and ran 31 yards for a touchdown. But Grothe led South Florida right back on a 90-yard drive culminating in Randolph's score. Randolph finished with five catches for 126 yards and the TD, while UCF's Mike Walker caught 12 for 133 yards. South Florida set up its second touchdown with a 31-yard flea-flicker from wide receiver Amarri Jackson to Amp Hill, scoring a play later on Grothe's 2-yard completion to Benjamin Williams.
  23. Yeah. FORCE us to pass. That's the ticket, all right! Yep, that'll sure show us. huh? Hehhehheh. (Anticipating obligatory Knight meltdown that is already starting)
