  1. I have no problem with FIU. I think it would have been smart to stay in I_AA and win a few championships that way, but hey. As for attendance, I don't think there is a minimum cost for the tickets, so if they discount them, purchasing 7000 or so tickets is not that big deal, even for an FIU grad.
  2. All I can say is that the key to doing things like this is try to be subtle.
  3. No one here is claiming elite status. More just that we are predictably competent at the 1-A level
  4. FIU fans, is there any site out there with your historical schedule with the records?
  5. Correction: As ET calls it. I kinda feel sorry for you...you remind me of USF fans not so long ago when playing traditional powers (note: i am not calling usf a traditional power)...blindly optimistic. Good luck during the game, and I hope you have a successful season. Look at their schedule: Sep 09 South Florida A Sep 16 Bowling Green H Sep 23 Maryland A Sep 30 Arkansas State H Oct 07 North Texas A Oct 14 Miami (Fla.) A Oct 28 Alabama A Nov 11 Louisiana-Monroe H Nov 18 Louisiana-Lafayette H Nov 25 Florida Atlantic A Seems like they are taking the UCF suicidal approach. I wonder why they just didn't decide to compete at the I-AA level? Serious question.
  6. Well that was before those 'highfalutin digital camera thingies were in every cell phone and cost within the range of a college student budget.  I remember the name of the person that took hundreds, if not thousands of pictures of the first year, but I have no idea how to contact her.  I don't think she continued at USF. Come to think of it, there were a bunch of game pics scanned and available on the old website. I wonder what happened to the old 'herd website.
  7. My first season playing the Sousa...The bell cover does muffle the sound. It's even more weird playing with them on. And what Billy said about the stairs is true. It's a logistics issue. I can't wait for USF to finally get our OWN field on campus with accoustics in mind for the betterment of the college football experience. The low brass sounds great this year. The band sounded pretty balanced. I played sousapone back in the inaugural HOT. Had a blast!
  8. We are allowed to talk smack to FIU.  They are instate and technically they are I-A. ...remember, it's all in good fun. As for places to stay, if Busch Gardens is your thing, then there are a few decent hotels next to campus. Embassy Suites, LaQuinta, Wingate, courtyard, etc... If you want to be in the middle of the action, there is A Hilton Garden Inn in Ybor. The Mariott Waterside, Hyatt, Sheraton, and Courtyard Mariott are in DT with access to Channelside. Where I always stayed when I traveled to home games was the HOliday Inn Express on Courtney Campbell Causway. That area is under contruction and a handful of the good restarant/bars that were there are closed, but it is near the water, central to St Pete, Tampa, and the stadium.
  9. Actually the quality of player we could attract increased when we jumped to I-A, not instantly but over the last five years.  There is a talent gap whether you admit it or not, and the depth at those positions means the talent gets rested.  When we were I-AA BTW we played our share of ranked teams.  It was funny because we would always lose the first meeting and come back to beat the crap out of them the next year as we were growing so fast.  The only teams that have eluded us (and mainly because of scheduling) is Hofstra and GA Southern.  I think those are 2 I-AA teams all USF fans would be happy to talk smack about and beat into submission.  They had a-hole fans.  Other than yourself, Mcneese fans seem way too nice. Heck, most of our current NFL players were here or were recruited/transferred when we were I-AA.  I think certain skill positions Leavitt looks for don't always work in the NFL.  There is a great number of I-AA NFL starters/players out there from many schools.  I think a lot of "florida" skill position players end up having size and character issues for NFL teams.  But in college speed kills. Now here is the thriller. A few years ago Nichols State's option gave us some trouble, but the game was still in hand by the end. It just turned out not to be a fun game to watch.
  10. I think what you are whining about is that our fans that are doing their best not to get involved in smack with a I-AA team.  It's moot at best, because if we are anything less than humble and appreciative of you and your fans, then we would be percieved as a-holes.  You're trying to bait people into smack.  You guys are a great I-AA team, but as you say depth is the issue.  The difference between us now and when we were I-AA was that after the starters, there was a considerable drop off in talent.  That is not even remotely the case now.  We may not be world beaters, but we are doing our best to get there.  The point I think most of us are trying to say nicely, is that if this game is not under control or in the bag by the end of q2 to q3, we have more problems than expected.  That is just how it should be.  Our off the field issues will have proven to be real.  As of now it is all talk. It's hard being humble when you grow so **** fast BTW.
  11. Most of us are just trying to be nice. You make it difficult. But after saturday, we'll see if you man up.
  12. I'm really not at liberty to discuss such things on a public forum.
  13. I'm thinking of bringing some Punch Rare Corojo's. They are a nice full bodied treat. There is no chance I am going to get anything done at work today.
  14. Yup, much to their dismay, that's where I hang out pre-game! If you are taking a bus to whorelando, you can request to sit with the bullbackers through the Athletics office. Welcome!
  15. That is crazy/insane and should be a reminder that Tampa is very vunerable.
