  1. When I coached basketball, I liked playing 7-8 players. Having said that, I think playing 9-10 players keeps more of the team engaged over a long season and keeps legs fresher. As long as the 9th and 10th player aren't hurting you, it's invaluable to get them involved. I like our talented roster and I think alot of guys will get a chance to prove themselves early on. If things aren't going well, I think CAAR would shorten the bench and play his best. I do worry about the non-conference portion of our schedule because I think our schedule will be much tougher and last year's team didn't gel right away.
  2. It's a very delicate balance of giving guys experience without jeopardizing the outcome. Roy Wiliams at UNC always experimented with line-ups in non-conference play and he admitted that he lost some games, but he saw the bigger picture. The problem is, USF doesn't have the luxury of losing non-conference games if they want an at-large bid. The FT% was not good... We are going to need to improve that along with some other guys (Knox, Stroud).
  3. As I was reviewing his game log stats, I was impressed that he was 5 for 5, 6/6, 7/7 some games. I realize the lower level of competition, but I think his overall scoring average is depressed. He rebounded at a good rate. I do think he's a depth guy but I wouldn't mind seeing what he can do early on.
  4. The guy started 21 out of 30 games on a 29-3 team. Playing time is pretty evenly split so he was only getting about 15 minutes a game. I think he's better than people think.
  5. I don't want this to be taken out of context as I know this is a delicate situation. The GoFundMe contributions have slowed considerably for the Battie family. I know they are grieving and probably want things to remain kind of private, but often times, periodic updates or even a "thank you for the support and prayers" can go a long way to encourage more donations. I hope the organizers of the GoFundMe page can write a little blurb as I think it would go a long way to keep momentum with the donations.
  6. If the YC is rocking and we have another successful season, watch out for recruiting! We can make a difference so get your season tickets and let's fill the YC up!
  7. A little trick I use to get around the pay wall (doesn't always work for websites but it worked in this case)... Open the article and then print it. If you scroll down, it blocks you.
  8. USF has done well with their coaching hires. The coaches are maximizing their players' talent and skill. Good job Golesh!
  9. GoFundMe is going well, over 40K already... Good to see.
  10. No one deserves to be shot for being out late, but your "risk" goes up hanging out at 3:30am. That's just reality. I hope he survives and makes a speedy recovery and others learn from this. Everyone has the freedom to do what they choose, but there are real dangers out there.
  11. I know... I was just a little upset/frustrated but I understand. Maybe he'll transfer in next year.
  12. I wish him a speedy recovery. It is very sad news.
  13. Come on! North Florida?! Really? *shaking my head*
  14. What was the tweet? I thought 1.5 million was low. Part-time staff, not volunteers
  15. Louisville? Ugh. Best of luck in the ACC.
  16. John Calipari is going the other route. He wants 7 or 8 guys. He says he's not developing players for the "next team". He can keep 8 guys happy, but he can't keep 13 guys happy. I understand the logic. If you are worried about injuries and depth... well, if you have that many injuries, you aren't winning it all anyway.
  17. I understand what you're saying but I know I am in a different financial situation than some of the players. I don't know the background of these players but I would guess that some of them come from very little money. I think I have a bigger issue with guys transferring two or three times and making it a spectacle. If you transfer 3 times, the problem isn't the coaches or teammates or playing style, it's you. I am kind of excited about the "new era". Yes, I wish our best players would stay but it's exciting to recruit new guys and learn about them. I know I get tired of watching the same guys for 4 years. Just my two cents.
  18. I don't know how the AAC works, but the Big Ten distributes revenue EQUALLY to all teams. I would imagine it's the same for the AAC.
  19. Correction: 92% of the funds go to athletes. Corey also mentioned that rules have loosened and coaches are becoming more involved so hopefully that leads to more events.
  20. I have been very hard on Fowler Ave for not responding to emails. Having said that, I received a personal email from Corey Staniscia today apologizing and answering my questions. He mentioned that 94% of funds go towards the athletes and $1.5 million has been given to athletes so far. I appreciated the gesture. I realize it's only a start but I will contribute $10/month to see how things go and re-assess. I feel like Fowler Ave needs more help to service contributors but I felt like Corey made things right and is trying. Take it for what it's worth but I wanted to share my experience today.
