Would Battie have benefited us? Probably.
I don’t think the positives would have outweighed the headache that this precedent would have allowed.

Yep. They were too good to add Texas Tech and Oklahoma State along with Texas and OU. Their elitism also pushed away several other potential G5s that could have grown and thrived in the PAC as well. They thumbed their nose at everybody else right up until the moment they had no TV deal and ran to those other conferences they felt they were better than.

Opinion: Welcome to the end of college football as we know it | CNN
WWW.CNN.COM
The College Football Playoff Championship Game marks the end of college football as we know it, after which the sport will fundamentally reconstruct itself, argues Will...The death of the Pac-12, a conference that went from having its own cable channel to no longer existing seemingly overnight, is one of the more stunning things to happen in college sports in decades. Its disappearance leaves only four major conferences, but if you’re in the Big 12 or (especially) the ACC, you shouldn’t breathe all that easy just yet.
The biggest losers of college football realignment this year were unquestionably Washington State and Oregon State. After years in the Pac-12, their conference imploded around them, and while everyone else found safe havens, they were stuck in the mid-tier Mountain West … with their days of national relevance likely behind them forever.
But if you feel bad for them, don’t get too comfortable: Your school could be next. An inevitable result of a two-conference, NFL-style system will be a consolidation of schools, which will mean, with geography no longer a determining factor, only the schools that get big TV ratings will get to play on the biggest stage.
We will do them one better:
A 1 conference, xfl-style system.
Orrrr, maybe we can lobby congress to impose extremely large taxes on to airport travel to artificially increase the cost to fly the team out, thus forcing all conferences to go regional again.

The B12 Twitter wants so bad for the ACC to go the way of the PAC it’s ridiculous. They truly believe that by killing the ACC they are closer to P2
They are just the best G6 at that point

I was thinking more along the lines of "We think we're better than________." Only problem is, we have no where to go.
What if it was a tiered profit sharing?
1st place teams gets x, 2nd place teams gets y, and so on down the line.
Cap coaching contracts and go from there.

So into CFB you'll borderline watch anything but especially ridiculous games... like 6-6 BC playing in a baseball stadium at 11am on a weekday. A classic sickos game would be a meaningless MAC game on a Tuesday, or something like Iowa-Purdue.
Well, I guess I was a sicko in college. Now I exclusively watch USF.

Could have been Bama this year, and should have been UF on the road last year. Thankfully we lost and CJS got canned. I think it may have been different if he beat UF.

More likely they would be happy with an ACC that looks somewhat like this.
Boston College, Syracuse, Pitt, Wake Forest,Duke, Georgia Tech, SMU, Cal, Stanford with additions of USF, Tulane, Oregon St,Washington St maybe UConn and ND for non football.
Any smart schools from MWC that can be pulled in?

Stanfords acadmics rival the ivy's and they arguably have the best athletic program in the country:
"Stanford has won 134 NCAA team national championships, the most of any Division 1 school in the NCAA. Stanford has won these NCAA team championships in 20 different sports."
They really deserve better. I am suprised the B10 did not scoop them up along with Cal.
It’s still a possibility. Especially if P2 gobble up the best available and go to 32 teams each, then split geographically for 8 team divisions.

If you think Cal and Stanford will join a conference with Boise and Fresno, well then you really need to look closer at what Stanford and Cal are really like
You are probably right, I don’t know how they are really. Honestly though, if they want football and are unable to lower their standards then either independent or .

cal and stanford will not stay with this watered down crap
they will go back west
New look mountain west conference?
with the addition of pac 2 plus cal/stanford MWC might be considered the best G5.
I think a lot of conferences are saturated with east coast teams (B1G and B12 aside) B1G needs a Florida school, and B12 needs a travel partner for UCF and WVU.
I think the p-conferences try to tear each other apart first, then if all else fails they turn to G5 which has the AAC and MWC as the top two targets. No one should touch CUSA (I don’t know why they exist). Sun Belt and MAC seem safe as well.

I am not sure everyone understands the criteria on how we rate these various prognosticators. If it is something positive about USF they are experts, well connected and even astute, if not they are hacks, bums and ignorant buffoons.
The dichotomy of man. The conference is probably even with the B12 at that point.
I imagine the leftovers of the American would merge with MWC. CUSA top teams leave for Funbelt, and rest merge with MAC.
So, power 2; Middle 2; Bottom 2 with pro-rel. Each pair has their own 8 team playoff or whatever it is at that point. Bowl games for conference championships and playoffs (15 bowl games?).
