GAME DAY vs. Memphis

USF will return to action after a long bye week that gave the Bulls two weekends off following a Friday contest vs. Tulsa on Oct. 23. A trip to Memphis, where USF won 49-42 in its last visit in 2016, will mark the Bulls’ fifth road game on the year and the first of back-to-back road games that will complete USF’s six road trips on the year. USF is 0-4 so far in road games on the year and the Bulls’ last road win came just over one year ago at ECU (45-20) on Oct. 26, 2019. The Bulls have lost in their last five road games and are 4-12 on the road in the last three seasons.

SCORING & OFFENSE: The winner of the last two meetings has scored at least 42 points, with the average combined point total being 75 points. Memphis has scored at least 42 in each of the last two meetings, falling 49-42 to USF in the Liberty Bowl in 2016. USF enters the game ranked 91st nationally scoring 18 ppg and 87th in total offense (325.5 ypg), while Memphis enters ranked 33rd in scoring (33 ppg) and 11th in total offense (503.2 ypg). USF posted 37 points in its last road game (at Temple), its highest point total on the season, and will look to continue progress on the offensive side of the ball vs. a Memphis defense that stands 101 out of 103 in total defense (556.8 ypg) and 102 out of 103 in passing defense (406.4 ypg). Meanwhile, USF stands 50th in total defense (392.7 ypg), 18th in passing yards allowed (183.8) and 16th in interceptions (7).

FIRST YEAR COACHES: Both USF head coach Jeff Scott and Memphis head coach Ryan Silverfield are leading a pogram for the first time and have had to deal with a virtually non-existent spring and remotely communicating with their team during the offseason as they established their team culture. The two are good friends and speak frequently on the phone as they compare notes on handling the unique situations presented by this season.
