The only thing I see them jumping for is Pitt for the WVU rivalry.

After that, it’s a crap shoot. NC State possibly? Is Ga Tech successful in basketball? Syracuse has had success in the past, but now? Wake Forest too, a little recent success in football.

I feel like both the ACC and the B12 have reasons for raiding each other, to help pad out the isolated schools for less travel. They have a reason for wanting to raid each other first before going G5, of course.

It is like a game of chicken though, and it all depends on who and how many are poached by the P2.

i do like the idea of Pro-rel though. I wish that would gain more traction.

How funny would it be, when FBS ends up with a P5 again.

Imagine: P2 revenue dips (because of their exlcusionary money grabs); the ACC collapses like the Pac-12; so the remaining ACC teams basically merge with the AAC (similar to the Pac-2 scheduling with the regional MWC) because the SEC/B1G snatched up a couple good ones.

However, networks realize that regional games actually bring TRUE fans (and make non-football sports manageable).

And then, by sheer lawsuits, NIL (or even unionization), regional travel, and non-athletic booster money (or some political influence) -- the P5 is now: Big10, SEC, Big12, ACC+AAC, and Pac-2 + MWC. Media deals are renegotiated (with the Big12; ACC+AAC; and Pac-2+MWC have nearly the same revenue?

So anyways, this is my worse case scenario if USF doesn't get called up within the next 3-5 years.

  2. The expense is also the football center (which, I really like so far). We can't downplay the football center; as this is necessary for a P5 program (recruiting) to have in this day and age.

Some minor changes they can make to fully improve the stadium design.

1.) Ensure there is a full wrap around concourse (that can view the field) similar to the RayJ now.

2.) Cover the stadium frame (similar to what Houston TDECU stadium did). I actually like their simple, yet standard design. Then again, the SDSU stadium has the exact same design as our rendering (regarding the stands' frame view) being exposed.

3.) For the price and only 35k seats? Ensure that we have seatbacks. Why bleachers? (if bleachers, then only in the student sections).

I call it USF when I’m Tampa or with friends, family in the area.  However I call it South Florida everywhere else.  Locally people know it as USF, nationally we are South Florida, that is if they know us at all.

    Thank you!

I know the USF media puts out "South Florida". I was wondering the reason for the rebrand.

Is it going back to our roots? Or is it to make our name fully stand out (prevent being called "Southern" Florida?)

  4. What a great time to fundraise for our OCS + FB/Lacrosse athletic center.

With our athletics programs posting winnings seasons and some championships...

Any word on how we are doing with donations, revenue, and even media viewership so far?

I am hoping that AD MK has a plan [for realignment] with our growing resume (dependent on what happens with the FSU lawsuit).

I also appreciate that ESPN and other media partners are continually referring to us as South Florida over USF now. I assume that's a directive from the athletic department, maybe @John Lewis can confirm?  Helps avoid confusion between us and Oviedo (who conveniently seems to be focusing on the abbreviation over full name)

I was also curious about this... is the reasoning for using 'South Florida' instead of the 'USF' abbreviation in our branding to prevent confusion with the other USFs (e.g. San Fran, Sioux Falls, etc...) and 'UCF'?

  6. A lot of folks on social media are taking notice of USF. However, the tired question regarding our location is coming up again. Some USF fans (e.g. Mr. Sherwin) recommends a change in the name. I personally like being USF (as I prefer the abbreviation to 'South Florida') and this name has been established.

Do we rip the band-aid off and change the name now? Or stick with our short 70 year history name approved by the state of Florida?

Say FSU, Clemson, Virginia and North Carolina exit. I’m certain I’m in the minority because everyone has dreams of grandeur, but as a fan I’d be plenty happy playing in a football/hoops league with Duke, N.C. State, Wake Forest, Pitt, BC, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Virginia Tech, Syracuse, WVU, Cincy, Tulane, Memphis . . . even Oviedo - whether it’s considered “power” or not.

    I agree!

Anything is better than these Conference USA slackers...

The author - Pete Fiutak - has been a USF champion for years.  He thought the Big 12 was foolish to not add USF along with UCF...

    While I agree...

I believe seeing central florida get a Big12 invite and USF left out was the wake up call that our admins needed.

The past 18 months have mostly been stellar. I wish we had this energy across the board when the Big East was collapsing.

Why didn't we break ground for an IPF/OCS when Taggart was turning the program around?

Stop listening to B12 fans on the ACC matters. Highly suggest some of us branch out to other websites to see the opinions of people of fans from the ACC/B1G/SEC on this matter. The only people posted in this thread are B12 fans - their views are not indicative of the actual market.

Further, stop echoing it. Some of the stuff said here is crazy talk.

I know that there are at least 2 B12 schools that absolutely HATE the idea of USF going to the P4.

They would explode if the B1G ever showed interest in USF.

So they put out the 6-6 model (yay G5s have a chance!), then pretended they were killing the Pac (so they could cut to 5+7 with this idea that it's now P4) while also giving them a chance to maintain their status. Pac will take on the MW all under the P12 moniker, then we still have a P5 and now the G_ don't get a guaranteed seat and will inevitably still be left out of the dance.

If you think this is a wild conspiracy theory that used the "death" of the Pac to reduce the number of guaranteed conference winners while simultaneously gonna let the Pac keep their autonomy status, then you haven't been paying attention the last 15-20 years. They'll continue to shut out the current have nots, because they don't want them getting any of that sweet sweet CFP pie.

I did worry about this, as well.

I just hate the structure of FBS... far from a meritocracy.

Dang. I graduated from USF in December of 2012. This thread started on Nov 19, 2012. I could have started talking in here right before my graduation about USF going to the ACC over 11 years ago and nothing but 3755 pages later has changed lol.

    Hey bro,

There are folks that graduated in 1982, and in a decade... there was still no football.

But in 2002... talks of going to the Big East!?

In other words... some things take time.
