Skip sucked, but if you’d given Charlie more time, he would have completely cratered. I work now with a guy who was in the USF athletic leadership under Willie and Charlie, and he said it was obvious that Charlie planned to take the team Willie left him, win big and parlay it immediately back into a P5 job. When that didn’t happen, he hadn’t put any effort into recruiting and wanted out as soon as possible. Didn’t want to be at USF at all.

That said, Skip’s recruiting may have been even worse. The team he left Taggart was the smallest and SLOWEST in program history.

Scott was in over his head from the start. If he’d taken over a team that wasn’t a complete and total wreck, he may still be here. He didn’t need his first job as a head coach to be a complete rebuild. He wasn’t ready for that.

I agree with all of this; except:

His first season was very strong; but, the play style was visibly weak on the field. It seemed very low effort from the beginning of his tenure.

There is a pep rally tonight at the YC. Possible to show the stadium to the mostly Freshman crowd. and say "when you are a senior, your games will be here"

    Please, let it be!

I would find it odd to have it released on a Friday. Besides I’m sticking with my November prediction lol

November? That's torture... Meanwhile, I have to hear about the renderings for Memphis, Kansas, and Charlotte...

My dream scenario would be this:

    West.                  East

    Stanford.                      South Florida

    California.                    Navy

    Oregon St.                   Memphis

    Washington St            Temple

    San Diego St               Tulane

    Air Force                      SMU

    Colorado St                 Rice

    Let's make it happen.

It's funny seeing central florida twitter folks rage out over rumors of USF in a new conference.

Our revenue is higher than both OSU and WSU. Zero reason to jump their way with no TV deal and no guarantee they stay P5. Tell em where to apply to the AAC if they want in.

Meanwhile, not a single peep in Tallahassee about FSU's next move. Nothing. Even some friends I have that are close to the program know nothing. Either it's the best FSU has ever kept a secret, or my prognostication that FSU's barking last week was nothing more than posturing is coming true. Two more years in the ACC unless notice is given within the next four days.

If nothing happens with the ACC this year, it might actually benefit USF by giving us more time to get our stuff in order. I'd prefer to be in a stronger position when the 💩 hits the fan. In two years, maybe we'll be up, and Tulane, SMU, and Memphis might be down. Who knows.

And honestly, we don't know whether the ACC will bleed only a little (lose a couple of schools) or gush all over the kitchen floor like a slaughtered pig (PAC-12). The goal is to have options, and the more we win and improve donations/NIL/attendance, the more options we'll have.

I am hoping that Golesh is great enough to suceed; and IF hired away. USF can finally pick the RIGHT coach to follow up.

This program (albeit young) has never been able to string consecutive successful coaches.

I 100 percent agree with the sentiment but have always found it odd that the OCS plans came not that long after Cincy, UCF, and Houston left for the Big 12. I do believe that the two were related and that USF administration believes that we need  a stadium for the eventuality of being invited by a  Power 5 ( maybe now 4) conference. But yes regardless we need it for the fanbase as well

    Absolutely, Spot on!

We were talking about being proactive in building one and there was nothing to elicit the urgency you're talking about. We had two models that showed one wasn't a necessity and WE were doing fine without one.

    This is a wild take...

College Football is much different from the 90s...

    Disney/Fox have corrupted the sport.

Here a clue: In the last few rounds of realignment... when has a school moved up without an OCS?

What is next for the ? Talks with the as well the & . Will it be possible for a merger that can keep it alive we G5 school's?

Man, I could see the PAC 4 bringing in MWC and AAC teams...

And if we get left out again... missing a 3rd round of realignment would hurt... right in the soul.

The ACC now knows it must expand. They don’t want to get short handed as the PAC did. They need to move an add USF and UConn at the very least.

So Immsure before we accept anything out west we remind ACC we are ready to go with them first

ACC would have to open up their GoR... and with that FSU and Clemson would leave.

They may probably sit this one out.

Either way, USF has the opportunity to make itself a prime target. We just need to win (and build that **** stadium).

To expound on the point bulloni made, who gives a **** that the teams are enjoying that money ..... overall the fans aren't and that's the perspective we come from.

USF was mid in the Big East... Hate to say it, but it's true. We were never close to winning the conference & we never made a BCS bowl.

Our best "record years" were under Taggart...In the "lesser" conference. But, the weaker conference (and less money) did HURT. Our competition meant fans didn't show up. Heck, with less money coming in, USF academics AND the local Tampa newspaper constantly question investment into our athletics.

So, the money and better in-conference match ups... makes a huge difference. Even when we were middle of the pack.

Seriously, why do fans care about how rich an athletic department is so much?

rutgers was way closer to being a contender before they joined the Big10.

what is there left to spend all this extra money on after everyone has great facilities too? Texas spent millions renovating their locker room twice within 5 years, that just seems wasteful

theyll always be able to poach our coaches with that extra money but that’s about it

    While I don't disagree...

This is the new sad state of NCAAF. It's a race to the top, and the top 50 programs have had a large headstart.

I hate that USF is on the outside looking in... Cincy in the Big 12; and even UCONN is in the convo to make the jump to the P5.

so two teams that are 7-2 would not be considered a bottom dweller and a top team.

Ask WVU fans if they prefer the Big East days over their big12 days.

Or Miami fans if they preferred their big east days over ACC.

Or rutgers fans....or syracuse fans...or louisville fans

those programs competed for national championships and were regularly ranked inside the top ten in their former conferences.

    Now they are mediocre.

I'm not an accountant for the athletic department. I'm a fan.

I want to see them compete no matter what level they're at.

That sounds nice and all... but a consistenly losing team, can have a one-off good year. I mean, USF showed a spotlight with Taggart, and then fell to the bottom to this day.

All the teams you mentioned are absolutely enjoying that bigger P5 money.

  13. 21 minutes ago, Bull94 said:

    yeah consolidation was inevitable though.

I'm ok if we are in the 2nd tier as long as we can compete. wouldn't want to be a bottom dweller in top tier.

When it comes to money, it makes a big difference.

Even the bottom dwellers in the top tier can afford nice facilities and easily featured on ESPN/CFP rankings if they show a spotlight of success.

Example: A 7-2 USF and a 7-2 Rutgers... Guess who will get all the attention.
