  1. I get what you are saying. My take is a little different as an evaluator for my company and function (of professional coaches no less). We look at impact, team growth and development, and value created over time through metrics… understanding that some coaching efforts have a very long tail and take time. It’s not always the coaches fault that a team did not move the needle in a year or so… but trends over time do show what a coach is capable of as teams mature. It’s not a perfect analogy, but I use sports coaching as a point of reference for my development teams all the time. The metrics for this team across all 3 of those areas don’t warrant a promotion. I don’t see a lot of progress, yet. They do warrant a bit more time to tell the tale. He already had another year or two left on his contract, that would have been enough to see if he’d be successful.
  2. Read the news and popped on to see if this made as little sense here as it did to me. Seems so. Unless we are a lock for a different conference, this seems to be a lock for frustration for years to come. What kills me is we have played this game before, with better on-paper, on-field results, and lost horribly. Really don’t understand the thinking at all, and this generates zero excitement for me for the future of the program. He had plenty of time on his existing contract to prove himself first before being rewarded. Even one more year to show —something — would have been prudent. AD got his coaching team and payday, so maybe that’s all that matters.
  3. If nothing else it feels like real football, and I’ll take going into the half with a lead
  4. Yeah this is my list. Kasey’s (was it 10cent or quarter wings), Montana’s was a haunt until it became the Bug Ugly Munchie Man, Coppertop, Hops, Greenery (lived next door in Ashford Green) … Bella’s after initiation or Rush classes. I actually spent some time at the empty Keg too, always thought having that on campus was cool, in my last year “Zombie” by Cranberries got burned into my head on the video juke down there. I miss a good dive.
  5. Jim is a good guy, and I know for a fact he was at the game in-person this last Friday till the very end. That says something ... and he wasn't really wrong 3 years ago. The 3 TDS articles in the series were an interesting eye-opener and it sounds like the school's issues are not something that can be fixed in a span of years, nevermind a season. The Big 12 news this week really annoyed me after that awful game, but its going to be a passing annoyance. I can't influence our current situation, so it's simply not worth the time or energy. I went to USF 30 years ago because I liked the idea of an "up and comer" university and I felt the future was bright, and I didn't care about football much then. I chose USF over UF and UCF, and have wondered off-and-on over the years if it was the right choice, but still feel it was the right choice for the time. Now that my son is going to college next year, USF is not on his list, and although it makes me a little sad, its also the correct choice for the time. He cares little for football, so that's not even in the calculation. I just hope we get good leadership to iron this and the other issues at the university out, and I selfishly hope it can be ironed out before I retire ... you can only be an up and comer for so long and I'm feeling a little old.
  6. I saw them at the Sun Dome with Lenny Kravitz in 93 or 94? Last thing Hoon said at the end of his set was "Every day above ground is a good day." Died a year or so later...
  7. Too lazy to change the channel, that's some apathy. So is Scott on track to be our 3rd 3 and out coach? Since I did not watch last season, I really have no opinion other than the fact that this game was not fun .. again.
  8. Frist 3rd down conversion at end of 3rd... maybe we get 3 on this?
  9. I just realized I'm sober, the pain is so dull I forgot I wasn't drinking.
