  1. How much do you think the Bulls Television Network will be worth to NBC, ESPN or CBS? $1 million... Oh wait that's not a lot any more? Ok $1 billion... Muahahah $1 million might not be much if any less than C-USA gets per member.
  2. And guess what, both of those other schools have more to offer than we do. Both have won thehttp conference in football. Both have excellent basketball, UConn being a top tier program. Not to mention, both are ranked substantially higher than us academically. What exactly do you wish they'd have done to sell us to conferences? We can't ride market size forever. I understand, they have accomplished a lot, and Cincinnati would offer a more 'new' market to somebody like the ACC or even SEC. UConn would certainly offer a very new market to the SEC or Big 10. But, regarding the rebuttal of market size being important, i don't think anybody said it was just market size. Being located in Florida-almost tied for being the third most populous state-with a big football culture and offering excellent recruits, USF would help a conference like the Big 12. Adding a school in Florida-particularly Tampa-would entail great exposure for the Big 12.
  3. I agree, we need to appeal to the Tampa Bay area. SunTrust is a prestigious corporation. It always helps to have its support.
  4. This expansion is more about Fox, CBS and possibly NBC taking power away from ESPN. And the haves not having to feed the have nots. There is currently 120 FBS teams (last team added was WKU), 8 are on there way - USA, Texas St, UTSA, UMass, GEorgia State U, Charlotte, ODU, and Georgia Southern. The more teams being added the more money is spread out. Right now the future 2014 FCS payouts allow each team making the grades a $300k payout ($38.4 mil), not including the amount that is paid to the ACC and the "Best of the rest". B1G's dream 6 is ND, BC (Boston market and hockey), GT (ATL), FSU (Non AAU), Kansas and Texas. Will B1G offer FSU even though not AAU? (Only other team non AAU is Nebraska who was then lost it). Texas problems are 2 fold - 1. LHN with ESPN and B1G won't be ESPN affiliated unless they win the bidding war for Tier 1 coming prior to 2016 2. It's got Raider Rash, Texas email to B1G already shows they are tied to Tech due to state legislature Kansas issue is Big12 GOR, KU could leave tomorrow and keep it's Tier 3 rights but for the next 12 years KU 1st and 2nd Tier would be owned by Big12, in football it's not an issue - in basketball it's big (basically any home game at KU for Tier 1&2 would either be shown on Fox/ESpN with proceeds going to Big12 or B1G would need to pay Big12 to show each game on their network What's this mean for USF initially it is one of the best teams left in FBS governed by NCAA, which isn't what most of you guys want to hear. What I suggest is push Judy to work on AAU status for USF because it's clear that USF could work easy towards that direction, because I don't see B1G getting Texas, KU and FSU but GT and UVA for 16. Then it's up to ND and BC, Cuse and possibly Pitt to 20 in B1G or 16 in PAC. Best option would be for them to PaC and USF get AAU because with B1G network, USF and Tampa/Orlando adds value due to location/demographic. Why I said possibly Pitt, B1G might not be interested in them as the already have PSU and Pitt is so close to OSU viewership. Judy Genshaft is probably still connected to the Big 10, through Ohio State University. Even though the cold weather would likely hurt our football success, I would love to see what the Big 10's CIC program could do for USF's research portfolio.
  5. B.J. Daniels made mistakes at times, especially bad interceptions at UF and a very preventable fumble against WVU last year. But, he was actually a reliable quarterback, our best if not almost only real hope at the position since Matt Grothe. We got blown out in our last few games this year, as he was replaced by Matt Floyd.
  6. Not saying anything that hasn't been posted/written by a national media guy. These days, that's not saying much.
  7. With FSU and Miami in the ACC, I think the Big 12 is actually more likely for us.
  8. I thought UCF already had several first string-quality quarterbacks.
  9. You need to have a pretty vivid imagination to venture into these threads and suspend reality as we know it ... I get that, my frustration is more with some of the so called "national media" which seems to run with these rumors as bad if not worse than the common fan and get everyone in a frenzy. I expect a journalist to atleast weigh things with reality, and that simply doesn't happen. I get politics running off the rails, but to have sports reporting now be as bad as TMZ, well thats just frustrating. Much of it is for sensationalism to get pageviews-for the website ads and publicity for the article author. I doubt FSU and Miami would go to the Big 12 before any other ACC defections happened. And, I am somewhat skeptical that core ACC teams are guaranteed to leave for the Big 10 anytime soon. If I were the Big 10, I would actually wait at least a few years to assimilate the two new members, and see what subscription rate I could charge for the conference network-instead of overwhelming the conference with unpredictability and a little instability of its own. And, if the Big 10 is so heavily preferred by current ACC members, it can probably wait, while making its evaluations and strategy. It has much less need to hurry than conferences like the Big East and Big 12.
  10. Yes if it costs them a chance at the final four, RPI. That's a silly rationalization. Especially with Cincinnati doing very well record-wise in the Big East. It could also allow FSU to play more Southern members.
  11. FSU will unconditionally leave the ACC, even if UConn and Cincinnati bring in more money?
  12. So, the Big 12 is even willing to risk collapse just to wait for FSU, potentially for years; but FSU will rush out first to be on an island for a conference largely based in the Great Plains without knowing all of the financial details for a more compatible east coast conference-and with everybody else wanting to stay?
  13. That is not good. It looks like we will lose UConn, Cincinnati, Boise State, and probably San Diego State. Our conference situation keeps getting worse. This is good for USF, if ACC takes UConn and Cincy as 15&16, with ND as 17 in BBall and possibly 3 BBall teams GT, Nova, ST Johns, I think FSU and Miami would leave without B1G or SEC expanding, then ACC will need to fill Fla void with USF/UCF IMO. Now how many other teams leave ACC is up in air. Only way FSU leaves first is further dissolution of Football powers, which is what UConn and Cincy does in FSUs mind. I highly doubt FSU and Miami leave the ACC to a conference other than the Big 10 or SEC, before other defections-especially when the ACC might be making close to as much as the Big 12. I also doubt the ACC would invite us, while already having 18+ members.
  14. That is not good. It looks like we will lose UConn, Cincinnati, Boise State, and probably San Diego State. Our conference situation keeps getting worse.
  15. If this is the case NBE has to worry about MWC keeping Boise, SDSU and then making a run at BYU, SMU, Houston, and Tulsa. Do you think Boise State might be going to the Big 12? There is a rumor they and BYU are going there.
  16. I am skeptical BYU joins the Big East, especially when they can still join the Big 12.
  17. Fresno fine, UNLV...no way. Decent basketball, but their football program is a joke. I agree. Fresno would be acceptable. But, adding the western version of Tulane makes me want USF to run out of the conference even more. We will eventually lose at least Cincinnati and UConn. The rumor is we will lose the Big East name, and possibly make even less money than now. And, now we are going to bring ourselves closer to the bottom of FBS football?
  18. Our football program can not afford to fear anybody, if it hopes to advance. Increase in competition and financial payouts are good things. Programs can and have developed In, and largely because of strong conferences. Our basketball team from last year is actually an example.
  19. Will the Big 12 be good, if the round robin regularly blocks teams from reaching the 4 team playoffs? The I-4 Corridor is not valuable? Is the Big 12 willing to pay $50+ million just for Louisville? If the Big 12 is too stubborn to expand, current trends will only weaken it. I noticed Big 12 fans boasting about the terminal decline of USF football-if not athletics-due to conference realignment. But, several Big 12 university's fanbases may someday be in our shoes.
  20. I think different conferences define Tier 3 differently, so we may not be comparing exactly the same things in that regard. There is also a tradeoff in money and exposure anyways. Football's primary purpose is actually to advertise not directly make money on its own. Lest, football would be dropped or at least largely scaled back by most universities. TV contract revenue is a fraction of total athletic revenue, which is a fraction of a university's total revenue and endowment. Miami and FSU going to the Big 12 by themselves? Extremely unlikely. Not only would they lose key contacts in academic fields, east coast attention, they would have to adjust their recruiting and marketing strategies without actually gaining more than they have now. I also find it interesting how a conference can deny potential and a modest profit from an expansion candidate, but universities will be more than happy to be fish out of water with promises of potential and modest football profit.
  21. TCU adds a large media market. But, several on your side claim only marquee matchups, not actual media market location matter-largely to claim USF is a worthless add even with the Tampa-St. Petersburg market. But, that FSU is the only worthy Florida addition (other than presumably UF and perhaps Miami following FSU). Well, to keep the argument consistent, inviting TCU instead of begging Texas A&M to stay may have likewise been a waste of time. TCU is nowhere the brand Texas A&M has been-a huge loss in your conference fanbase's heavily valued "marquee matchups." You can't have it both ways. I should also add, the Big East was nationally televised in primetime, too. Just having FOX is not enough to keep up with other elite conferences.
