  1. I should have clarified better. I did not mean to imply the matchup would get the ratings of a Michigan and Ohio State type of rivalry. I just thought if USF can stay competitive, the similar brands and corresponding locations could develop a nationally appealing-albeit obviously far from elite early on-rivalry if promoted well enough. Not sure Texas would feel the same way, which is why rivalry is a poor word to describe this matchup. We would be their mid-level non-conference game. Essentially, we'd be their FAU. I did not say USF would be anywhere on par with the University of Texas. Just that under the right circumstances, it would have real potential as a matchup. Of course it is a moot point, as USF will never be invited to the Big 12 anyways.

  3. If marketed properly, I think a football rivalry between USF and the University of Texas, could become a major tv ratings generator. Only if we win a few championships first. I didn't say we would be on par with them. Just that it could be a really interesting match-up with the right marketing and circumstances.

  5. What does our satellite campuses have to do with our athletic program. I know Doug has been taking some heat as of late, but losing USF Poly sure as hell isn't his fault. The closest thing that comes to him dealing with the other campuses is the Sailing team running out of St Pete. Does this give FGCU some press? Sure. And they earned it. Good for them. Can FGCU beat us in sports? Yep. Does it mean they're athletic department and university has surpassed ours? Let me answer it this way.... Has USF beat Florida in some games? Yep. Does that mean USF has surpassed UF? HELL NO. But this should be a wake-up call to our department that there's competition in the neighborhood. I think the USF sailing team from St. Petersburg won a national championship.
  6. I tend to be pessimistic myself. But, claiming FGCU is better than USF is ridiculous. Except for the color green and relative location, no comparison is needed.
  7. +1010101002907810810829048209890144123441ESPN/NBC literally put the most important schools in a group in writing and you're still in denial. What will it take to make some of you not so biased? It's a punch to the gut, but I'm not going to ignore it and spin it every way possible to make myself feel better. In YOUR opinion that's what those groups meant to NBC. NBC is not the end all be all of University worth and quality. Unless you were there when the contract was being written up, you have no idea. @usfvoodoo5 ESPN matched NBC's contract exactly. NBC owns Comcast. Comcast has regional sports channels in Philly and Houston. Thus UH and Temple are A Comcast does not exist in the Tampa market, at all. ESPN could not negotiate terms or change verbage in the contract, it was an "accept or pass" option. +1010101002907810810829048209890144123441ESPN/NBC literally put the most important schools in a group in writing and you're still in denial. ESPN could not negotiate terms or change verbage in the contract, it was an "accept or pass" option. Plus, the Houston and Philly markets are larger than ours. You've got 2 in group A due to brand naming, based on history and 2 due to TV market. Neither reasons of which anybody at USF can do a thing about. I doubt Houston and Temple were put in group A because of market size, as neithwr of those schools comes close to owning its market. Like cincy and ucon, they were singled out for being bigger brand names than us. Temple is a second tier basketball brand while Houston is semi-known in both football and basketball. Both are clearly better known athletic programs than us. I really do not know that Houston and Temple are significantly bigger brands than USF or even UCF. It would be difficult to find a fully comprehensive anaylsis of tv ratings open to the general public, so I am open minded in that regard, at less for Houston. But, it has been estimated USF and UCF only trail UConn for fanbase size in the conference. On paper, UConn is certainly the biggest member in the Big East. There are rumors of UConn and Cincinnati being on the doorstep of the ACC and possibly Big 12. They are the expected favorites to leave, so it makes sense they are in Group A. But, I think it is logical Temple is included in Group A because of pure media market size, Comcast's location, and perhaps as a theoretical third option for the ACC. Houston also has a very large media market, a possible future as the ACC's fourth choice (especially if FSU and/or Miami are still in), and as mentioned regional sports channels. And, it does not hurt they are probably going to be one of the best conference football teams with on the field performance-although it may technically not be a factor in being listed.
  8. I don't know if this is in response to me, but I was referring directly to the tweet. He seems to be claiming some of his sources gave inaccurate information. They say FSU is not being added, then he makes an argument to contradict their insider information.
  9. I will admit I am biased, and there is secret information (team financial evaluations) I am unaware of. But, I find it hard to believe USF is not even one of the better mid-majors. It was bad enough being told USF does not deserve AQ membership with the 65 (in the Power 5 Conferences) being included.
  10. Brett McMurphy â€@McMurphyESPN If 2 teams from UConn, Cincy, Temple & UH leave; or 1 of those & 1 of remaining teams, new TV deal for former Big East can be terminated So it appears USF is not as valuable to ESPN as UConn, Cincy,Temple, or Houston. That could be why USF hasn't received an invite to join the big-boy conferences. Willie needs to get rid of the bus, and learn to pilot a jet! They picked group A because they were the ones most likely to go to the ACC, at least in the case of Cincy and UConn, per McMurphy. So its the other way around, USF isn't in group A because insider talk doesn't have them going anywhere. Yep. I admit, this is worse than what I was originally thinking - I was holding out for a shot at a truncated ACC. With the aforementioned contingency plan for ESPN in place however, if we ever made it to the Atlantic Coast Conference, it would be, for the most part the same conference we are in now with a new name. If it is indeed these four teams before us, it's over. Here are my thoughts. Feel free to rip apart and explain why my logic doesn't make sense. UCONN and Cincy make sense. Decent markets with no exposure, a flagship school and better basketball than what the rest of us have to offer - except Temple, or maybe...Memphis. Temple makes sense I guess for the basketball and (elite academics)? Maybe also, the ACC knows it can't win the football arms race and isn't trying to compete with the B10 and SEC in football, maybe they are trying to compete with the C7 and everyone else in basketball. Duke, UNC, Syracuse, Louisville - not bad. They've got ESPN watching their backs for the most part and must know as long as they remain a conference, they won't be ignored or downplayed by the WWL. Which leads to FSU potentially running for the exit. Who else then? Right now, I'm thinking Clemson, VT and someone else? UH makes some sense if the tea leaves are saying only FSU might be leaving the ACC - leaving Miami. Maybe then the ACC would be satisfied with only one team and market in South Florida* and then would covet a team, exposure and carriage fees in Texas? Houston sure as hell isn't leaving this conference for the B12 or B10. By the looks of it, we are a mid-major program for life. I just hope to hell the administration has a plan in place to make this down-shift as easy as a transition as possible. Again, let me know where I am missing the mark on this. Thanks! Agree with your post except for the highlighted part. No transition is needed. We've always been a mid-major at best in athletics. I am not going to debate whether USF was ever an AQ-level program. But, it is almost certain USF will receive significant cuts in at least revenue.
  11. It's just a rumor, but this is the most recent. 8 minutes old baby. The Dude of WV@theDudeofWV It’s 10:29 pm. Some at the BTN are saying the B1G turned down FSU. It’s NOT true. No vote has taken place. So, he is now claiming some of his own sources (from the BTN) are wrong? Classic!
  12. USF and UCF probably have two of the three largest football-if not overall-fanbases in the conference.
  13. It used to be that way with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Super Bowl.
  14. Does David Ubben really think all or even most of these conference realignment moves are obvious FSU-esque (national brand) "home runs?" And, these include conferences that are more stable and widely desired than the Big 12, and can logically afford to be more selective. I think he is just trying to rationalize his prejudice against USF.
  15. The PAC-12 is adding Iowa State, Kansas State, Baylor, TCU, and Texas Tech? Even without Oklahoma State much less Texas and Oklahoma?
  16. Men's Basketball's first NCAA Tournament win. http://scores.espn.go.com/ncb/recap?gameId=320740025 http://m.nydailynews.com/1.1039394#bmb=1
  17. Until they have to travel to Connecticut (for football) in the winter.
  18. So, FSU and Miami would not have to pay the Big 12 back for the $60 million?
  19. The Big 12 is giving away $60 million ($6 million per member) away without it being paid back? I agree USF would not be added at a net loss. But, the Big 12's members accepting a net loss for other schools? From my understanding the $60 mil is money that has been set aside for future expansion, mainly from Mizzou and A&M buyout and WVU's and TCU's prorated fees. Therefore no net loss for other schools, kinda like payout from Big East to USF, Cincy UConn. But it is in the Big 12's possession, right?
  20. I think USF has a national championship in sailing.
  21. how about the Semi-National Athletic Conference ... the SNAC! Do you think that would get more support than the BMAC sponsored by McDonald's and suggested by 'a Jersey Guy?'
  22. I would be interested in the name "National Athletic Conference."
  23. I also wonder if FSU is to always consider climbing for another conference until it gets into the SEC or at least Big 10. Maybe a strong and fully stabilized ACC would satisfy Florida State University. If so, would FSU want to lock itself up in the Big 12 through the Grant of Rights when it might be otherwise pursued by the SEC and Big 10 in just two or three years after joining the Big 12?
  24. The Big 12 is giving away $60 million ($6 million per member) away without it being paid back? I agree USF would not be added at a net loss. But, the Big 12's members accepting a net loss for other schools?
  25. I think FSU makes more sense for the SEC than the message board-favorite NCSU.
