  1. Would you rather USF play Temple and similar universities or regional FCS teams in-conference?
  2. By the way, I read a report by Tom Block, projecting the ACC's media contract to be on par with the Big 12's, effectively at $19 million per member.
  3. So, the Big 12 still pays a net loss for even FSU, with 3-5 other ACC teams. I don't mean to be rude, but these Big 12 'homer' rationalizations are getting ridiculous!
  4. this. If the basketball schools do bounce, we should change the name of the conference. Or better yet, leave them with the Big East and create our own conference. May as well. Big East will have no clout or meaning to be honest. I think the basketball members would demand keeping the Big East name in a split.

  6. That's even worse than what we have now. No more basketball members, losing the other active Big East football members. Less prestige, money, recruiting strength. We would be weaker than the Mountain West Conference, the MAC, and possibly even Conference-USA.
  7. Agreed. When you look at a whole institution and not just how popular a football team is, FSU propbably costs more and dilutes more money for the Big 10 than we would. The real money is in research, where we are already ahead of Florida State-in spite of them being more privileged. Not saying it happens but it sounds as if they are trying, I understand the AAU setup but Nebraska is not a part of it now either. In fact our research here at WVU is really good in energy and medicine and we are looking at a 12 year process to try to get AAU (we won't be voted in though) who says FSU is not making those promises. My point is for those who say USF in unqualified because of football and academics (including research money). But, contrary to the popular belief of the fantasy football conference commissioners, FSU would likely hold back the Big 10's CIC program more than USF would in research money, and even more in the CIC than USF would with the television contract. The promoters of many of these conference realignment rumors are like those who participate in fantasy football and think they are smarter than NFL general managers.
  8. So, the Big 12 refuses to accept just short of a $5 million per team profit in expansion, but will spend tens if not over $100 million in exit fees for expansion candidates? I know you like to tell us how inferior USF is on our own board, but I have a feeling you are just speculating and rationalizing your own personal preferences. The money supposedly put back for expansion is $60 mil that would help other teams with buyouts just like Big 12 did for WVU. You give that to teams who secure conference, USF and Cincy does not do that in long term (After GOR) Part of the additional $5 mil additional profit is only for Tiers 1&2 and a conference game, adding other Teams the schools Tier 3 rights could increase along with bowl game money. So if going to 12 then you could see $35 mil a year at WVU, ($25 mil t1&2, $6 mil t3, $4m Champions bowl + other bowl money better teams better bowls more "owned bowls) Now here is the kicker say Big 12 adds USF and Cincy, name your divisions. East/West - North/South. The problem is your not going to get 8 votes either because you won't split UT, OU, OSU, Texas Tech up therefore one conference is not as good. Say East of WVU, ISU, Cincy, USF, TCU, and Baylor(who will never agree to this lineup.) does this division warrant Fox/Espn paying more to get to $25 mil to make everyone happy. it takes 14 to open up contract negotiations. Remember there is 2 types of TV deals - Conf Networks & People watching Big games is ISU - Cincy going to be a big game? So, you are only suggesting the Big 12 loan money for ACC exit fees, to be paid back in full later?

  11. FWIW, Greg Swaim keeps saying that Cincy will not get an invite from ACC over UCONN because Cincy is already within UofL's footprint, which they already have. Now, the same could be said about adding another Florida market in USF. Seems to me if you're overlapping footprints in either case, I'd just pick the larger market. While Tampa clearly picks up FSU and Miami, "locking down" Tampa with some overlap in USF would be better than "locking down" Cincy with some overlap in Cincy (by virtue of UofL). Having said all that, who the hell knows what happens. Apparently, Greg Swaim does not know what a media market is.
  12. I wasn't. I was pointed out that I thought the Bucs made a bad hire but now I have changied my mind. Agreed, Schiano has won me over. Even when they lose Bucs are at least an entertaining team on the right track. Let's hope Taggs can do the same thing. Probably most importantly, Schiano has brought discipline and passion back to the Buccaneers. If Taggart can do that and at least retain our recruiting class (including Asiantii Woulard), we will improve.
  13. Please keep racism off this board. USF is an inclusive community.
  14. Sure. I guess Greg Swaim is ready for conference realignment scenario #332.
  15. Wow! What a revelation? Does Greg Swaim really need inside sources to realize that the SEC would prefer UNC over NC State?
  16. It seems strange, if not unfair that two schools in rural north Florida (including the Panhandle) are represented at the national college football level but excluding the more populous and commercial I-4 Corridor. I like your enthusiasm. Go Bulls!
  17. Good point. I would be happy just to keep our 2010 conference rivals and a fair chance at the national spotlight.
  18. Colorado State is awful I would rather add them than UNLV or New Mexico State.
  19. Assuming Air Force is not an option, I would like Nevada or a California school. Colorado State would be acceptable, too.
  20. USF is in a predicament where it has to take what it can get. So, as want and pursue are related, it is reasonable to pick the more procurable option.
  21. Unless the ACC loses FSU, the Big 12 is probably more likely.
  22. This is why USF needs ACC to blow up. Perhaps your dream scenario requires the ACC to collapse, but I am not blindly wishing for that. If anything, the death of the ACC could just lead to further consolidation of money, exposure, and access. I am unhappy about the ACC taking about 3.5 members from us. But, I want what is necessarily best for USF, not what is bad for the ACC.
  23. I am not suggesting USF to the Big 10. Just that FSU does not make more sense.
  24. It would probably be best case scenario for USF. Opens door to ACC and possibly Big 12. FSU makes sense to B1G in financial terms. It's not a great university in terms of credentialed academics, but stranger things have happened in realignment. Of course, many would boast that the Big 10 would never add us, claiming we would dilute the tv contract money. But, FSU would dilute their CIC research money more severely. With more research dollars and developed infrastructure for it, it would be easier for the Big 10 to make USF into an AAU member than FSU. We also possess a larger market, that would better include fans of Big 10 teams and Northern transplants & Snowbirds. Not sure if serious Not serious about what?
