Fortin is clearly the most talented QB on the roster as of now. If you go back and watch what he was able to do as a true freshman at UNC in 2018 you’ll see why he was a solid recruit out of HS.
I fully anticipate some mistakes early given his lack of playing time, but fully expect him to earn the starting job and not look back as soon as he steps on the field.

Whoever is playing long snapper shouldn’t ever see a single snap in a USF game again

I’m all for giving Marsh a shot in the 2nd half. It’s clear McCloud isn’t a D1 capable QB. Give Marsh/Smith some opportunities and begin building for the future

Center Brad Cecil and the 2 O linemen that were part of the 12 held out are on the depth chart to start against ND. Hope they show up and give our QB's a bit more time plus open up some holes for the run.
GO BULLS!
To be clear, having the players on the depth chart does not exclude them from being inactive/on the covid list.
All of the OL (and Kegler) were on the original depth chart.
I don’t expect Cecil, Harris, or Jennings for Sunday

“Tony is going to go ahead and call this game on USA network. If he can go ahead and have a great game, he can get back in the game as a coach. Tony Dungy might go ahead and coach at Citadel”

Give me Johnson with a run heavy, RPO game plan. At least his athleticism would give us a dynamic that we can build on.

He should have called more have the other teams punter hand you a td plays...
Ironic because Charlie called the our punter will hand you a TD play -> see Stony Brook 2017
Nice to be on the other side of those for a change

It was actually Stoney Brook, but your point is well taken and correct.
Ahh correct, it was Stony Brook.
That blocked punt in the first quarter was incredible foreshadowing.
With one month of practice, this team is more disciplined and sound than any of Charlie’s teams

Even Charlie managed to win his FCS game since we have been in FBS only CWT managed to not be able to do that
Charlie won his FCS game (in disappointing fashion) with a roster chalk full of talent. Do you remember scratching and clawing to beat Elon with the best QB in program history? I do.

I hope you are right I just remember having this same conversation for months last year about how that minor league coach was in over his head where everyone wanted to see improvement being right around the corner just because they wanted him to be successful. CJS is supposed to be an offensive coach and his offense should look markedly better, maybe next week.
If you were expecting some type of offensive explosion, then you truly don’t realize the importance of spring practice for a team with a new system. Not to mention one whose QBs are splitting reps.
What’s genuinely exciting is this team “executed” better and had fewer penalties than Charlie’s teams (2 years vs 1 month)

On espn app it’s says event not yet started begins at 7:00. Geez.
Same - saying it hasn’t started yet on both platforms I tried

If anyone knows this guy, it's CJS. I'll trust his judgement here.

When CJS hits 100 wins and knocks off multiple top 25 teams in front of sellout or near sellout crowds he can be called the greatest. He has yet to coach a game. He is recruiting but we need to see his results. I hope he can top the CJL era but he has a long road ahead of winning to put himself into that conversation. You know who else could talk a big game and recruit? Butch Jones. Lets hope CJS is closer to CJL than Butch.
Is CJS really talking a big game though? It’s not like he’s appearing on every media show saying we’re going to win a conference championship in year 1.
Don’t confuse optimism with cockiness. There’s a stark contrast between the way Butch Jones operated and how CJS has handled himself throughout his career

Definitely into a gray area but he was also working here and I would think it'd be dicey having a conversation, no matter how vague, with a player about landing places, of which you are now the coach of a potential one,. when he hadn't officially entered the portal.
Do you think his conversation(s) with Fortin began and ended with a solid commitment in 8 days?

Just my opinion but I don't think he risks having that conversation after he accepted the job here ...
Then you really don’t understand the dynamic of a coach/player relationship. Especially not given the circumstances at play here specifically

It doesn't matter. Until he announces, a coach can't talk to him and there's no way the CJS would try to recruit him from Clemson before that.
If you don’t think CJS and Brice have at least discussed this on a surface level, I don’t know what to tell ya.
Cade Fortin officially transferred in a mere 8 days after CJS was named HC. Cade entered the portal all the way back in August. He had multiple P5 offers. You think he was just waiting for that USF offer since August, and then one beautiful morning CJS calls?
These players and coaches have relationships. They talk off the record, just like you and your co-workers. Don’t be so naive.

Brice wasn't available at the time.
Maybe not officially, but come on. With Trevor coming back, there was no way this kid was going to just sit behind him for his entire career
-
Some of the people/sources speculating probably don't realize that we signed Fortin. If CJS thought we had a good chance of signing Brice, I hesitate to think he would've still signed Fortin with so much urgency.

Looking at the film, I see him as bulking up and playing at TE.
I was actually thinking the same thing. He’s not afraid to block, that’s for sure. And his athleticism will play up at that position

I'd say there is a CHANCE . . . and it would be a HUGE get. A HUGE, HUGE get. The guy is 1000% character and is an All-World teammate. JUST what we need for the next 2 years to start us off on the right foot. A real leader.
BUT . . . .
I feel there is a chance the leghumpers (georgia bulldogs) are in the mix due to where he is from, what their need is right now, and the Grad level courses they have that he would be interested in.
I feel Dabo has to agree to it / ENCOURAGE it to get it started & then with CJS - ANYTHING is possible.
We need him.
Think UGA would still be in the mix after landing Jamie Newman?
I have to imagine Brice is going to be looking for somewhere he can go and play immediately. I don’t think the Fortin signing makes that impossible here, but it might be a factor.
One plus is he should be fairly comfortable with whatever system we run next year. If he doesn't mind competing with Fortin, I’m all for bringing him in. For his sake, I hope he finds somewhere he can get on the field.

Looks like he's Cincy bound unless something crazy happens.

The offense will only work if our receivers learn to catch. There will need to be a big improvement there.
Unless we are running the triple option, then yeah, that's kind of a pre-req to being a good offense.

If I had to guess, CJS is still leading the staff, with the S&C coach running point with the players.
QB Cade Fortin Available Against Cincinnati

I mean, we’re pretty “screwed” already for this season no matter who is playing QB. Completely new staff, no practice time, etc.
Fortin taking the reigns at QB could provide some hope for ‘21 and beyond as he could still be classified as a sophomore for next year given the rules around this season.
