Ok, thanks for the reset. I appreciate that. Yes, its a small feed and I try not to spend much time there either.
I really do want the team and school to succeed. My OSU buddy was much more interested in this hire as well, so no its not all negative.
But man its been a rough few years.
Totally get it (notice my absence from posting). One thing I know for sure, we will have a fun offense in the next 2 years. There will be a lot of tempo, vertical passing game, etc. Now let’s see what we can get at DC

Really. I was agreeing with a lot of what you had to say, now you are just being a jackass.
I’m not trying to be a jackass. You were saying the Twitterverse isn’t celebrating this hire. I understand we likely have different twitter feeds, but that’s simply not true (beyond the typical jaded, emotional USF fans we likely both follow).
Not trying to be a jackass. Glad you’re invested enough to be here having dialogue. We could use more of you

Btw, I bet if you asked the folks in Orlando to rank their experience with their last 3 coaches - SF, JH, Gus, I’d venture to bet Gus would be #3 on their list. The guy that came in with a world of HC experience and the exact profile everyone here would probably prefer.

Larger fanbase perhaps? This isn't trending well here or in the twitterverse after that s-show of a hiring hype. Sure doesn't feel like the splash hire we hoped for, and many here still wanted a chance for CJL to come back before it came to this. For the record, I wasn't a huge fan of Chadwell either.
I don't really f-ing matter to USF as a fan except for TV ratings, so my confidence doesn't matter other than being an older member of a dwindling fanbase. I left Tampa >25 years ago never to return, have never seen a game in person, and don't donate much. But for a long time I watched every single game and I had a hell of a lot of fun during the CJL years, streaming before it was a thing. Haven't had much fun since. It is the ONLY football I've watched in the last couple decades, don't care for any other teams, so I'm really only a USF fan, not a football fan. I pay attention to what's going on, but my post count shows I don't live and die by football.
I often say, USF did not have football when I attended and I did not care then... has not had much of a team in recent years .. but here I am still, waiting to see if we can get some of that excitement back.If he succeeds, great. I hope he does. Am a confident, no. I'll watch the first game next season and get a sense on how much to reengage on USF.
Stopped reading after you said it’s not trending well in the Twitter verse. Go look at some of the respected offensive scheme football pages. Ran by former coaches who know ball. They love this hire because of the scheme. No one knows if he will be a homerun. No one ever knows when you hire a guy. But this is NOT Jeff Scott. And I’m willing to bet if we didn’t flirt with such a polarizing figure figure in prime, the sentiment in our own community would be much different. In reality, “missing” on prime has no barring on if this hire will be a success or not.

I wonder how many UGA fans were pissed they hired Kirby Smart after having zero HC experience and being under a defensive HC. Did he even call plays????

Although I like the overall timbre of this, UCF had won a couple of conf championships before Scott got there ...
They were 0-for and hired a hot shot OC with zero HC experience at a big time program. The roster that Scott Frost inherited was barren of talent and had to be totally rebuilt (by a guy with no HC experience). The very thing people here are so worried about because we missed on an OC with our last hire. That’s my point

Yell it from the rooftops.
You mean like when UCF hired Scott Frost and Josh Heupel back to back and went from an AAC joke to a national brand and into the Big 12?

Nope, but a proven track record at a lower level would help with confidence. I've coached up junior hires that were home runs, and had experienced ones fall really flat. This guy is just a real unknown, and this program really needs -something- to grasp on.
Help with whose confidence? Yours?
There’s two paths big time, young coaches go - big time OC or lower level HC. You can find successful HCs with both. Until someone shows me there’s a higher hit rate from hiring HCs from the Sun Belt versus hiring coordinators, we’re just speaking in generalities.
3 minutes ago, olafberserker said:Of course. Really just meant that if I was ranking them and I put Chadwell say 3 and Golesh 6 or 7 lets say. It really wouldn't have been that much difference. The HC experience would probably be the only real reason I'd rank him hire at all.
Chadwell has gotten embarrassed the last 2 weeks btw

The more I listen to him speak, the more I’m changing my mind about this hire.
I wish more people would quit typing in rage and at least do some research.
there’s no guarantee on ANY HC hire. But this guy knows offense.

Wow. Meanwhile our defense is still horrible. This is not the hire we needed to fix the program.
This program needs (and will receive) and fill rebuild. The roster will be VERY different than this past year. Hiring a HC simply to fix one side of the ball based on a roster that won’t even be remotely similar is asinine.

There are times you go with young and hungry, and there are times you go with experience ... and when you really need the latter you worry about Peter Principle when all you get is the the former.
Was this really all we could get? This is truly a restart from 0, will be a lot of transfers out of what little we had left. Seems a lot to put on someone with no HC experience. I don't envy CAG, this is a hell if a hill to climb (on a burial ground) and the natives are restless.
If you to the route of “experience” for the sake of experience, you’re likely going to end up with a guy who was recently fired. Speaking of Peter principle..

Comments from Vols OC Alex Golesh should have Tennessee fans fired up for the rest of season
A to Z Sports is your place for NFL news, opinion, analysis and reaction. Covering 13 of the NFL's 32 teams and more. Tennessee VolsIntellect wise, he might be our most intelligent coach to run our football program.
Golesh speaks more about scheme in on PC than CJS did in 3 years. This doesn’t mean he’s going to succeed. But these aren’t remotely the same hires

I just sat through 3 years of Jeff Scott just for them hire Jeff Scott 2.0? No thanks.
What makes him Jeff Scott 2.0 outside of being an OC? Spoiler alert: that’s where most HCs come from

Everyone saying this is the same as CJS needs to do some background. They have experience as OC’s at big time programs, that’s where the similarities begin and end (CJS was just a co-OC lol)

I will be optimistic. Let’s see how he fills out his assistant coaches and transfer portal. I will always root for USF but I’m slowly losing interest and the desire to make it a priority.
This is a solid hire. But to your point, the staff the guy brings in is as big of an indicator of success/failure as the hire itself.

Clemson had the #4 offense in the country the season we decided to hire Jeff Scott. This is another project hire we don’t need right now.
The difference is CJS wasn’t involved in the scheme whatsoever. He was simply the recruiter. Golesh is a X’s and O’s Guy

What's more worrisome is his recruiting....if he was really good we could overcome his bad game management
Yeah I mean I really like Dollison and Jimmy Horn. McClain looks good as well. Mangham was a good get in the portal.
But some of his in-game stuff is pop Warner level. There’s 5+ Bay Area high school coaches who wouldn’t have made that mistake
-
Yeah, CJS ain’t it boys. Like some of the young guys from the recruiting class, but he sucks as a HC

Unless Scott is planning on going for it on 4th down, I do not see why he called a TO with 24 sec left
Hoping they got the TO wrong and temple was the one that called it. Going for it here or calling aTO for the FG are both bad moves
-
Bad clock management again. Don’t call the timeout there. Let the clock run down to 2-3 seconds (or make temple call a timeout) and kick the FG
-
If anyone is a real estate agent, Glen Spencer is a good lead. House should be up for sale soon
-
Mangham fired up there that they weren’t able to get on the ball and run a play. Ridiculous that we have to call a timeout to get a play called

I think that was the only play BYU could run and NOT score. Anything up the middle and they walk in
Like I said. The lack of physicality and tackling on this team is egregious
Alex Golesh ?

My man, EVERYONE recruits tampa. You don’t have to be a native or be employed by a Florida university to have Florida recruiting connections. That also falls as much on the staff (assistant hires) as it does the HC.
Mike Norvell had no Florida ties. He’s gotten that ship turned around just fine (trying not to use the same c. comparison over and over)
