  1. Lot of good points here.

It's obvious that Bortles is better than any QB we have on our roster at the current time.

That said, you're telling me that Shaw, Davis, and Tice can't be better than Johnson and Stanback? You dang well bet they can. It's going to come down to efficient QB play once again, whether it's Bench or Eveld under center. Our team is predisposed to running for a lot of yards, simply because of how much we run the ball. This game is going to come down to keeping L'Ville off the field. If we aren't dominating time of possession, we aren't winning this game.

  2. If it's turnovers Louisville is looking to commit, we are more than capable of getting them. It's this defense's M.O.

That said we're going to need to get serious pressure on Bridgewater. Lynch, Giddens, and company are going to have to play the best games of their seasons this week for us to have a good shot.

  3. 3 weeks ago half this board was talking 10-12 losses. Now some are talking about if the loss by Louisville helps/hurts the chances of  USF beating Louisville.

Winning tends to get people to overblow things.

Realistically, we don't have much of a chance against L'Ville unless we keep their offense of the field and generate a pass rush of the likes we haven't seen this season yet. Bridgewater will destroy our defensive backfield given the opportunity.

  4.

Won't they need UCF to drop 2 conference games to overtake them?

Not necessarily. If UL beats us and we beat UCF, and all three of us run the table otherwise, we'll have 3 teams tied for first.

Under the old BE rules, the highest ranked team in the BCS poll would get the bid - I assume that rule carried over to the AAC for at least this year.

UL would probably get the BCS bid over the two of us

Yes but look at the flip side. UL is coming in ranked for sure. UCF will likely be ranked when we play them.

If we go into Orlando with the conference championship on the line, you best dang well believe we'll be a lot higher ranked than we are now...and chances are we're going to need to run the conference table to have a shot at that-that would require us to beat Houston as well, and while they aren't ranked they're a good team.

  5. The one problem I have with Eveld is that he's got very little to run on. He's just not a guy who you can rely on for heavy QB play. I thought it was a major mistake, especially given how Davis and Tice ran, to make him pass the ball so much against a very tough UConn pass defense.

His protection was fine against Cincy-perhaps the best it's been all season. UConn protection was okay, but it has it's issues.

I wonder if his injuries are why we didn't see more of Taggart's offense against UConn. Perhaps Taggart didn't want to risk having his QB take hits on screen plays and what not. I saw the Taggart offense at work against Cincy-dump offs to the TE, positive passing on every down, focus on passing efficiency. I didn't see it as much against UConn, especially as McFarland disappeared and our WR just failed to put in any sort of effort.

That said, it's clear that the screen pass is a strength of this offense-perhaps the best passing play we have. If our receivers put in some more effort, perhaps we'd see them actually winning some battles for fades and slants.

  6.

    assuming you are UL fan?

Yes.  I've never seen a nobody fan base come over to our boards and talk smack like those UCF fans.  My first thought was "Poor Bulls fans".  We deal with the UK idiots but at least they have somewhat of a history in football to back them up.  :lmao:

Agreed. It's much like USF and Miami. We don't like them much, but they gave us an opportunity as a program to grow and get to the next level. While that didn't happen, we can respect their five national titles and history of winning. They've earned some of their arrogance.

UCF? They have NOTHING to hang their hat on. Feel lucky dude-you won't have to deal with those maniacs after this year, whereas we are likely to be tied at the hip to them for the foreseeable future.

  7. How vital is it that we find a way to beat UCF this season?

Seriously, if you think that the athletic department at UCF wouldn't hesitate to leave us in the dust if they had the chance they wouldn't? We lorded the BCS affiliation over them for years, even as we beat them on the field. They know the only reason they're in the AAC now is because the state of Florida and ESPN twisted our arm badly (as well as some decent winning). They want their opportunity to show that they've passed us. There's absolutely no doubt they will be happy to lord a P5 affiliation over us if the chance is there.

Rivalry? Only way we can show it now is that even at our worst we are capable of beating UCF when they are at their best. Period. Willie Taggart might be able to make this team overachieve, but that weekend in November could possibly be the most important game in program history-without  a win we are doomed.

  8. I'm hopeful we can at least put 30k actual bulls in the stands. UConn had its homecoming game yesterday and I was impressed with how many of their fans showed up to watch a losing team. We've got to do the same. Louisville will have a large contingent of course but we have no excuse to at least outnumber them if our announced attendance turns into 80-90 percent actual.

  9. Bull and Triple B, you both pretty much summed it up perfectly in the last 2 posts. Nothing against the ville, I got a kick out of seeing them beat Florida last year, but they are in no way a top 10 team. They were top 20 last year when they sqeaked by us 27-25 on their field. We had all kinds of opportunities to win that one. Strong is a good recruiter. Not sold on him as a gameday coach.

We also had an uber-talented QB who rallied the team back before the defense gave up the ghost again. I don't see that as a common thread on this year's team.

  10. I don't necessarily agree.

UConn has been lights out against the pass-opposing QBs have been 49-92 with 5 INTs and 5 TDs against them. That's actually rather pedestrian, given that they played a decent offense in Michigan and the fact that they've lost all but one of their games by double digits-and let's not forget how ugly they were against Buffalo.

On the flipside, they've been allowing 192.5 YPG against the run and an average of 4.16 YPC. I like our chances running the ball even if Shaw is out.

Funny, UConn is probably saying some stuff like this about us..."let's not forget how ugly they were against McNeese."

I agree with the conclusion--run the ball & have the screen pass ready to go when they come after our lame (physically speaking...) QBs.

If your pass defense is the best part of your defense, wouldn't you prefer your opponent to pass? I see UConn stacking the box due to Bulls playing without Shaw and knowing that they can get to a hobbled Eveld if he's back to pass.
So before Bench and Shaw went down they were going to do something different?

I wouldn't exactly say we were airing it out with the two of them playing.

No, but Bench is more mobile than Eveld. If they had to play a dual threat we keep our offense on the field longer with the running game.

  11. I remember seeing her mingling with all of the USF fans after the FSU win when exiting the stadium. She had a huge smile on her face and was just as excited as anybody for the win. She is great. She was in a bright green suit.

Haha! I arranged a bet between her and the FSU provost earlier that week. Loser had to wear USF gear to the next winning team's home game and pose for photos with the winner. Problem is, the next game was Cincy when they were good. Blasted Cincinatti that day.

  12. I don't necessarily agree.

  13. has a hamstring injury. saw him outside the stadium afterwards walking with the crutches but not using them.

Hamstring? Thank goodness it's nothing too serious. He'll take some time to recover but if we don't see him against UConn he'll be out there for sure against Louisville.

I saw the same thing inside the stadium, he stopped using his crutches.
