  1. think they are using 'multi purpose' to try to secure some state funding?

I doubt USF could get state funding without opening it up for use by the general student population.

When USF practiced at the University of Toronto, for the International Bowl, they had a very nice multi purpose indoor facility, but that was more of a bubble type. It was very nice.

UToronto opens it up for student recreation, so if we did something similar we might get the state to pay for some of it:

One of the largest of its kind in Canada, the air-supported dome covers the entire field.

Erected during the winter months, the dome greatly increases playing time throughout the year.

The dome has had the biggest impact on U of T’s intramural programs, offering space for a number of wait-listed teams in a range of sports, including indoor soccer, field hockey, ultimate Frisbee, flag football, cricket and lacrosse.

It has also significantly expanded practice hours for Varsity Blues track and field, football, field hockey, soccer, lacrosse and rugby teams.

Community outreach has also been enhanced by the dome, which has expanded the Junior Blues program and created a driving range for golfers looking for an off-season practice space.

I doubt we have anything like the U of Toronto dome. I have a number of family members who went there. Their endowment (and likely their donor base) is much larger than ours.

Not only that, but they built their stadium to hold a lot more-cricket has larger pitches than any other field-based sport I know of, and it easily dwarfs a football field.

I'm not sure we can expect any state support regardless. UF hates us and you just saw this spring how much power they wield.

  2. Hey guys.

I spoke with Dr. Chowdhari at a wedding yesterday (I know him personally).

While we were discussing various things the golf course came up. I asked him why he was interested in donating to the golf team specifically. He said that it was the only thing that was currently available for donations (not entirely buying it-I think one of his kids plays golf). Just an FYI for you all.

His son is on the golf team.

I thought so-and that explains it.

  4. There's another one. Pop's putting in work. Mom must be hot. Or maybe they're trying to catch up with the Weatherfords.

They have a daughter as well, a year older then Bobby.

Can she spin the laces and hold a place kick? Is she committed anywhere yet? Maybe she could walk on? I'm starting to think we all know a little too much about the Evelds.

Thankfully, no, Tiffany can not hold a place kick. I knew her for a while in my last year of Student Government.

She's a pretty smart girl though.

  5. While we are on the subject, I have been watching this board for years and have never quite figured out what the "i" in UCiF stands for......

It doesn't stand for anything much-only that UCF fans tend to complain that they only just barely lost to a lot of very good teams. Hence UCiF (only).

  6. The donors deserves some recognition. Thank you for your generosity.

Drs. Antonina and Shaukat Chowdhari's latest gift to USF will build a long-awaited training facility for the golf program.

    ...

In May, USF Foundation Board Member Dr. Shaukat Chowdhari and his wife, Dr. Antonina Chowdhari, announced a $1.3 million gift to the USF: Unstoppable campaign. The money will be used to build a golf clubhouse and training center for student-athletes. It will feature locker rooms, a putting lab, a swing simulator and offices for coaches and staff.

"The new facility will be state-of-the-art," says Shaukat. "It will allow USF to be competitive with top golfing programs and to attract the best golfers."

I know Dr. Chowdhari and his wife personally and I can honestly say they're great people. The dedication they put towards USF doesn't surprise me at all.

  7. Im interested to see what this park looks like. I can picture the big open area on the south side of the library. Any landscaping improves the look of campus, so I'm all for it.

That big open area is a vital parking lot for many USF students. You really want to get rid of it?

  8. It's all a bunch of bull. If armwood was a private school the could recruit kids just like. Tc and Jesuit. I can tell you I don't pay 10k a yr for my son to go there and neither do the other kids who played for the Tampa bay Spartans unlimited weight team that happens to play there home games on this wonderful million dollar football field off himes blvd

Some private schools like Jesuit get around "recruiting" by having promising athletes take an "academic" test that they, of course, pass with flying colors and an academic scholarship is offered. I don't think the player even get the 'graded' test back, if it is even graded at all.

That's a load of BS dude.

Everyone has to take that academic test. I did. So did my brother. We both graduated from there. I went to USF. He went to Miami.

Has anyone here actually attended Jesuit besides me? Anyone?

I was not on the football team, I ran cross country, but if we were recruiting, then we would have been in the late rounds of the FHSAA playoffs yearly for football. We made it to the 4th round in my freshman year in 2002 and after that we might have made the third round once between 2002 and 2006. As for cross country, we worked our butts off-if we recruited, then Coach Boza surely wasn't working hard enough.

In your favor, I recently had a discussion with my counselor from my senior year there and he did state that the school has not done as well in recent years academically.

  9. VT will approach the SEC because the ACC is dying, (that's their out without UVA). It won't be UNC because of Basketball, it will be NC State that leaves the other 3 triad schools and heads to the SEC. That gets SEC the other 2 states they want.

NC State is fed up with Duke, UNC and Wake, and VT is feed up with UVA. This is about the football schools versus the uppity basketball schools who did not add football value to the ACC.

FSU was one of the biggest proponents of WVU to ACC along with NC State the four who voted against the above triad and UVA.

The BBall teams are killing their own league.

Pity the Big East and the ACC football squads can't decide to just form their own conference and tell the basketball schools to go take a hike.

You have to think that a conference with USF, FSU, Boise State, VT, UVA (since it's a package deal), Miami, Temple, NC State, Clemson, Cincinatti, Louisville, and a few bottom feeders would be a decent conference.

  10. This game is not just on Daniels.

This game is on the entire team.

When Pitt cannot stop you up the middle, you need to run the ball down their throats.

I don't entirely blame him-he kept his composure the entire game and fought as best he could.

I'm just not getting the lack of runs up the middle. We were killing them in the first half, and given time Pitt would have worn down jsut as much as we did.

Yeah, our defense got gassed. Part of it was preparation. We didn't expect Sunseri to run like a maniac and didn't account for it. The other is that USF didn't play good fundamentals. You could see this a little bit last week-players weren't tackling, they kept going for the strip. I cant count how many times we caught Pitt in the backfield and let them get loose.

USF now has a long layoff to prepare for UConn. You can bet we'll be better in two weeks.

  11. They certainly have a more to lose, but I don't think FIU beating UCif would "catipulte" anybody into the spotlight. UCif doesn't have a spotlight to steal.

    Agree on all points.

I'm guessing the "spotlight" must be for the 5th best program in the state of FL.

3rd...UCF is better than Miami and YOU.

    :ROFLMAO

    I'm sorry.

What makes you think that you could beat us?

    Our defense is better.

    QB is a wash.

    Running game is better.

I won't deny you might have beaten us a year or two ago.

But now? I'm sorry, but we would beat you by two touchdowns, and if our athletic department was willing, I'd be happy to see it happen in person.
