  1. So, basically, the class doesn't look any better than the typical Holtz class.  Or maybe not as good.  Reading this thread it seems our expectations have gone from "He can recruit way better than Holtz" to "If he can coach these guys as well as he did as WKU we'll be really good."

Hell yes he can recruit way better than Holtz. Holtz was recruiting with the BCS tag, came into a rising team, and had he been retained, I have my doubts that the team would have managed to stay in the top 75 in recruiting classes.

Taggart is coming off a 2-10 season with mostly Holtz era players, has no BCS tag, and despite that he's keeping this class in the top 50. So yes, Taggart will surely turn this team into a good squad.

  2. Per 247 we're first in conference and #46 in the country. If We see Ward and Knox commit, we could be seeing a potential top-40 recruiting class.

ESPN doesn't have an overall ranking for us, but per their class rankings we're third in conference behind Louisville and Rutgers. In essence we're really #1 since both teams are leaving.

Rivals is same as ESPN, though we're #49 in national rankings.

I like our class so far-Taggart has never had a class this good in his years at WKU, and he made a winning team out of them, so I'd love to see what he can do with a top 50 class. Ward, Knox, and Robinson will be the keys I think.

  3. But, but, but.. the article doesn't talk about Ironside...

    :D

Seriously though, that is an interesting development. A contract that binds the school but not the player. Wow. Wonder how it's going to play out? Will it help or hurt mid-majors like us?

    It could help or hurt.

With these bigger schools, they don't want us stealing their top recruits 2 days before signing day like we did with Giddens in 2009 and Terrence Mitchell in 2010. I'm not saying we're likely to always get those sorts of recruits (those were exceptional cases indeed), but it will hurt us when we can't talk to them nearly as much when a Jimbo Fisher or Al Golden can only be in their ears daily.

At the same time, it can help with our own better recruits-so that if someone were to come calling for say, Porter or Flowers, we'd be able to protect ourselves and do everything in our power to keep them away from other programs.

  4. Denzel Wardâ€@DWard75_6h

The college I go to has to have a @ChickfilA close lol

    Bryan Drakeâ€@BDrake9876h

@DWard75_ @ChickfilA I'm sure @MW_514 will take you to each one on campus if you promise to protect him. #Bromance

    Denzel Wardâ€@DWard75_6h

@BDrake987 @ChickfilA @MW_514 me and Mikey already got a deal on that lol

Every tweet sounds like Ward is going to commit already. Wish he would cut the drama and just do it.
  5. And ... congrats to Craig. I left USF before he got there, but I have chatted with him a couple times. I grew up in Boca Raton and always followed FAU (they were about 3 miles from my childhood home).

I can say this, FAU had a new president, and the president let Craig go to bring in their own hire as AD. I think he did a great job of growing that school's department. He also gets credit for building the best football stadium in Florida of the recent past (their stadium is head and shoulders over FIU and a step above UCF's in my opinion).

Agreed on the stadium. I've been to their stadium and its a very high quality stadium for the size.

  6. The only culpability she has is in hiring Doug Woolard. He came from a basketball background right when USF was exploding onto the football stage. Big East, even diminished, was a good league. We had some good years. We probably had an opportunity to hire a quality football oriented AD at the time, and we didn't. Now Woolard's basically coasting towards the end of his career.

At the same time, we can't just think about Judy in athletic terms. All the insults about USF being a commuter school were essentially true a decade ago. Oh, we had our fair share of high quality programs (accounting, the med school, etc.), but in most areas we weren't all that strong. She's been a very dedicated fundraiser and she set her sights on being a high grade research university.

I think the next five years of Judy's presidency are going to be the toughest of her career and what defines her as a university president. Athletics is in bad shape money wise. We may at some level be reaching the point of no return with some of our bigger donors in terms of how much they can give, although our sciences are certainly doing fantastic. Some areas of the university are likely in decline, particularly in the business school and social sciences. I know they let the old dean go a few years ago after he completely bungled up his administration and fundraising, I've heard both good and bad things about the new business dean.

  7. I was invited and attended as a Bulls Club Board member. It was a nice evening but, to me, it is an "in-house" kind of event. I can see why some coaches might not want to have it open to all fans and I really have never seen it as the kind of thing that I had a burning desire to attend. Still, since it is a point of concern to some here, I will bring it up for discussion. For my part, I apologize if anyone felt slighted by this.

I would appreciate it if you brought it up - as a matter of fans missing a chance to connect with coaches and team. (Edit: At times like this with attendance being what it is, I see this as a missed opportunity to reach out. Maybe they were afraid nobody would show?) I will mention it as well when I get a chance. Not feeling slighted, unless everyone other season ticket holder was invited and we weren't ;)

Thanks. One question, were player's families there?

They were, I spoke with Tiffany Eveld about her brother on Facebook asking her to congratulate him for me.

  8. I can assure you our practice fields will be shown lots as one of the teams involved in the game will be holding drills at USF during the days leading up to the game. It's a great stadium and I never want an OCS.

Just a shot in the dark here. Isn't it possible they use the Bucs fields, with it being an NFL facility and all?

Haven't teams in the Super Bowl used USF's facilities when it was held in Tampa in the past?

Yes. In 2009 the Steelers were tweeting about seeing our guys lifting in the weight room.

  9. He's brutally honest and set in his ways and I respect the hell out of him for it. I like a coach who has a vision and is willing to work to see it through. Could he have run the spread this year? Sure. Would it have won him more games? Debatable. But it wouldn't have made sense to run the spread for his vision going forward so he decided to run his offense and prepare these guys for the future. He knows he has some time to work and he's willing to put in that time to make the program better going forward.

He's working on building a lasting program. You can't ask much more than that.

Florida athletes are built on speed, not brawn. There is a reason that Florida teams try to throw the ball all over the field and teams from the midwest try run the ball down the other teams throat. Maybe it will work.
    C. Florida would disagree with you

And hasn't UF been running a Pro-Style offense for years?

And how did Meyer win 2 national championships? By running the spread. Muschamp tried a pro style and its been awful.
