Y'all need to pray for five years of a Final 4 that excludes the Big 12 champ every single year (assuming SOS issues). Then those m-f-ers will expand their club.

How fast did UCF build a stadium? That's not a dig, just a point about how quickly things can change. The real interesting issue is whether the community/"state" colleges will be adding JuCo football. I believe that a state law prohibits it at 2-year schools, but not sure if the move to 4-year degree programs changes anything. Would be great to have the best JuCo league in the country, what with so many kids failing to qualify. Sucks that they have to go to a JuCo in Mississippi or Kansas.

I'll save him the trouble of posting, and here's what he'd say: "Kaaya is the next great Miami QB. He came across the QB and I predict he'll win 4 Heisman trophies and 4 national titles here. I do feel bad for Heaps, though, he should have gone to a lesser program like USF where he could have stood out against inferior competition. We really didn't want him anyway, once we saw what Kaaya could do. But hey, best of luck to the kid." Uh...whatever. Kaaya is good. I expected Heaps to win the job because I thought he would be much more productive with better weapons than what he had at BYU and Kansas. Think of Heaps as the current version of Brock Berlin. A lot of talent, sure, but not enough height. Apparently our coaches felt that Kaaya had better vision of the field, particularly downfield. I think Kaaya is 5 inches taller than Heaps. Don't rule out Williams. Let's say we lose the Louisville game, and then we have 2 cupcakes. If Williams is back by Nebraska, it might be a QB battle again. I certainly want Kaaya to succeed, but the Miami fans have not proven to be very patient either. This isn't a recipe for perfection and success. I am nervous, but cautiously optimistic. Kaaya appears to be very mature and poised, so I don't think he will be "deer in the headlights". We'll see. Kaaya will have a lot of talent surrounding him, so all he has to do is stay calm and dump the ball when he has to, and not try to win the game with a long bomb or a scramble. Lots of teams will game-plan to pressure the young kid, so if he ends up starting all year, it's going to be a constant challenge. I do like the fact that he won the job after only being on-campus for a few months. We've been waiting for a freshman phenom, maybe he's the one.

Limited number of scholarships. Want to be close to home, girlfriend, etc.. Talent overlooked. Like the coaching staff and system. Etc. etc. The NFL player of the year two years ago, Joe Flacco, went to Delaware. The P5 won't get all the great talent. Flacco originally went to Pitt, which is a P5 school. Just sayin'...

UF recruiting is a DISASTER right now. They just held FNL and ended up with fewer verbals than they had before. We just took St. Louis from the pool of guys they thought they had a shot with. I look at that schedule and I don't see 10 wins. I'll be surprised if they pull 8.

It's a fair question. I think (prior to the last month) that some folks have been uncertain as to how many kids we could sign, and how many spots we were holding onto for the "top recruits" such as Ridley and Burgess-Becker. Davis is good, but he's a 3-star. Perhaps, before now, he may not have had a "committable offer" from Miami (I hate that term). Within the past month, we cut the 2 LBs loose, and then we got word that one of our DBs (Nate Dortch) is leaving. So it looks like (even with sanctions) that we will be able to sign more than 20. Hence, my question. If the kid really is looking to stay in FL, yet hasn't visited the other FL schools, then I would agree with 247 that he is probably Miami-bound. It's also why I made the earlier "scratch-and-dent" comment. If Miami is expecting to get guys like Tyrek Cole, Calvin Ridley, and Burgess-Becker, or if we pull back from some of the damaged kids (I realize that the 5-star WR from Palm Beach is a 2016 kid), then there might be more wealth available for USF to tap into. Just a conversation. Nothin' personal. I just didn't know if y'all were seriously on Davis. He lists a USF offer, but I didn't see a thread, and you guys tend to have a thread on every guy you think you have a shot with (again, nothin' personal). Best of luck this year.

And a rematch against FSU. I'd be surprised if the NC isn't FSU v Bama, as Bama is still fuming over letting Auburn wreck their season last year. I see Bama winning that game, FWIW. I admire y'all's optimism, but if every 4 and 5 star player in Florida was checking out Florida Big 3 depth charts and fearful of competition, then it seems like USF and UCF would be landing some amazing recruiting classes. Fortunately for Miami, most of the 4 and 5 star players in Florida aren't too scared to earn their playing time. Particularly when that "long line of RBs" who are already enrolled likely only consists of one guy who was rated as highly. If Yearby scares Cronkrite into picking USF, y'all can have him. "Sitting behind Yearby for 3 years". Sure. If you think that will get you Cronkrite, go for it. Yearby hasn't even stepped onto the field for UM yet. And UM has never really played just one RB to the exclusion of others. Maybe when we had Ottis Anderson (and nobody else). I'm not being naive. I'm not saying guys haven't looked at the depth chart. I am saying that when guys embrace the challenge and the competition, they don't have to pick USF's open depth chart over Miami and the fearsome Joseph Yearby. Most of the Top 25 programs in the country don't have wide-open depth charts. 4 and 5 star players still sign with them. You are positing some magical "play for 2-3 years at USF and then go to the NFL" career path. Can I just ask you who has succeeded on that magical career path? I mean, I checked the NFL draft history of USF, and I don't even see a single RB selected in the draft. Mike James. Lamar Miller. Frank Gore. Willis McGahee. Clinton Portis. James Jackson. Najeh Davenport. Edgerrin James. Larry Jones. James Stewart. Cleveland Gary. Melvin Bratton. Warren Williams. Alonzo Highsmith. Darryl Oliver. Speedy Neal. Keith Griffin. Albert Bentley. Ottis Anderson. Chuck Foreman. Pete Banaszak. Those are just SOME of the running backs that have been drafted out of Miami. That's a murderer's row of running backs. I don't know why a kid would ignore that history and running back lineage to find an empty depth chart somewhere that has never produced a single drafted running back. Because Joseph Yearby is on the roster. Don't stop believin'.

I tend to agree with you. Every year, there are a few Dade County running backs who just explode for yardage as they grow into their bodies. I would value Telly's judgement in this regard, he saw some of the best year-in, year-out in Dade. How are your Canes shaping up this year? Most of my work-Canes are optimistic, except at QB. Should be interesting. Supposedly, Williams is on track to be able to return for the first game. With his experience, plus Duke, Stacy, and the rest of the RBs and WRs, we should be pretty decent on offense. Would have preferred to have kept the OL who transferred (Bunche), but we should be good on offense. Everyone wants to see Kaaya come in and throw fire, but I will be comfortable with Williams and Heaps for the first month. Defense is going to be the unknown, and not for the whole "we sucked last year, Onofrio sucks" nonsense. I believe the defense will be much better, but there are two huge wild cards. One is the removal of two experienced linebackers, which I support, but is still a big loss. The other will be how much Golden and Onofrio want to run the 3-4. Without knowing as much about how they plan to do this, it is very hard to say that we will or will not have all the right personnel and all the right playcalls. I have a friend who works for the UM Athletic Department, and he sees the players regularly. D-line has grown, and the DBs are healthy again. The key will be LB play if we utilize a moderate to large amount of 3-4. I will know a lot more after the Louisville game. QB health. Defensive schemes. Duke speed/cuts. If we beat Louisville, we can play freshmen/rest upperclassmen coming off injuries. I am not putting much stock into the Nebraska game, we can lose that and be fine if it puts us in better position to play the ACC schedule with healthy starters and experienced backups (who would, presumably, be getting some early-season reps). We have to emerge from September with minimal injuries to the main starters. I'm confident. If we beat Louisville, it's possible to win 10. Not saying it will happen, we need a lot of breaks to get there. If we can hold onto the 2015 and 2016 recruits, it's going to be an amazing team in a couple of years.
