  1. Meh .... He didn't commit to us so no problem mucking up his thread. Yep. He chose a school that is not within the city limits of the city it is named for. Dude, you shouldn't be so flippant. You all have serious problems. Haven't you heard? The hilarity of that ranking. Not worried at all. Just thought I would bring some levity to the discussion of geography.

  3. We were trying to pull JoJo for a while, but eventually we moved on to other kids. Meanwhile, nobody in the community (yes, I'm talking about guys like Uncle Luke) raise a single Twitter post about how F$U is suddenly dumping long-time commits for higher ranked kids. Yet if Luke gets a parking ticket on the UM campus, he will air out that dispute within 5 minutes of it happening. Very...selective...outrage...
  4. Randy Shannon. I thought I read he burnt a bunch of bridges down there. Is that not the case? It's weird. He definitely burned some bridges, but kept some intact (BTW with Ice Harris, who was on his staff). That's how Arkansas got Kirkland last year. Look for Blandy to be promoted to Arkansas DC soon.
  5. So your favorite part of the article involves a sentence that states (as if it was a fact) that over a MILLION dollars was paid to Miami players, when the reality is that the NCAA, using Bankruptcy Court proceedings, could not even establish a fraction of that (part of the money that UM paid to the Bankrupcty Court was a payback of donations made to UM, which was nearly $60K. Then you have about $80K paid to 2 guys to sign with a particular sports agent after their eligibility had expired. Therefore, the NCAA was able to substantiate less than $30K of extra benefits paid to players during their playing days. Brilliant. But I'm glad you enjoyed that fact-free section of the "Bleacher Report" article. http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/9859464/miami-hurricanes-told-expect-ncaa-decision Shapiro said he spent millions between 2002 and 2010 on football and men's basketball recruits, athletes and coaches. A study of the allegations by The Associated Press found the NCAA was able to identify only about $173,330 in so-called extra benefits. Still, the institutional control charge is considered the worst that the governing body for college sports can bring against a member school. I guess ESPN didn't fact check either did they? Maybe you should fact check or math check. You left off about $170,000 Uhh...I'm not the one that needs help with math... Please re-read my numbers and apologize. I'm a CPA, I can certainly do math.
  6. Our players were not paid by anyone at the university, nor anyone directed by the university. One guy, who at one point was trying to sign guys to an agency, provided money. The money was for his benefit, to get guys to sign with his agency, not for UM's benefit. That's all I care about.
  7. Quit living in the 90's. The NCAA has set a recent precedent for punishing former coaches more than current schools. And I love the insults. Reminds me of 3rd grade. I haven't read all the recent news. What was Clint Hurtt's punishment from the NCAA? Did you not see the 2-year show-cause? Hurtt will be fired by Louisville and won't be able to work as a coach for 2 years, possibly never again. See, generally, Butch Davis, currently working as a "consultant" for the Bucs. UL has already announced they're not firing him. Uh...that's not true. He's fired as an assistant coach. He can stay on staff as a non-coach, so he's likely to be the assistant DFO or some such. This is just the saving of face on Louisville's part. You want to start laying odds on whether they still employ Hurtt in January or beyond? Besides, the question posed involved the NCAA's punishment of Hurtt. And that is a substantial punishment. Every other coach who has received a show-cause has been fired. If Louisville wants to "look good" by keeping Hurtt in a non-coaching capacity, I will allow you to hazard a guess as to why that might be.

  10. I'd love to say "I told you so", but I'll refrain. After all, I'm just some anonymous internet guy who doesn't know anything. My original prediction for football scholarship reductions was 9, and I upped the total to 12 when we found some problems in hoops. So I was wrong, it was only 11 total. Guess we really got hammered.
  11. So does that mean we will be wearing the Stormtrooper uniforms? Interesting...
  12. That's not really true, but it's hard when you are the 3rd highest rated QB in a 3 QB class... And a UM legacy is already enrolled...
  13. It helps to be located in such a huge geographic area that produces so much great talent. Also, don't forget, the University of Florida was very scared of the geographic might of SoFla back in the 1950s-1970s, they resisted legislative efforts to put a state university in that area. At one point, UM was even considering affiliating with the state as a "State university" and we were blocked by UF. FIU boosters will try to tell you that UM similarly tried to block them from becoming a state school, but it was more the UF guys. There were a few UM guys who were perturbed about UF blocking us, and then the state doing an end-run and building a "new" state school in Miami, but those Gators really know how to protect their turf. That's why FIU had to be "International" and FAU had to be "Atlantic" instead of, say, UF-Miami or UF-Palm Beach. Now we just need to get an indoor practice facility (lots of lightning storms in SoFla, and it is apparently now on the Athletic Department's radar) and an on-campus stadium (still, for the most part, a dream, though we are secretly preparing for it with parking garages). you underestimate the great coaches you have had at the school howard s started it off and jimmy j continued two of the best salesmen to ever coach the game usf has had access to the similar talent and we have sucked for so long Not underestimating the coaches at all. But go back and look at the talent level. We were putting guys like Ted Hendricks (Hialeah), George Mira, Jim Otto, OJ Anderson, Chuck Foreman, and others into the league even when our coaching was terrible. We were sub-.500 for the 1970s. The key with most of our coaches is that they weren't the "top guys" according to most, they were below-the-radar and hungry. Schnellenberger was known locally for his work with the Dolphins, but he was struggling to be considered as HC material. JJ was on the rise, but was coming off of a 7-5 season for OK State when we hired him. Drunk Dennis was probably the only guy who had a fantastic HC resume at the time we hired him. Butch was, like, our fifth choice to be head coach. We missed on a few guys before the players convinced the administration to hire Coker. And most people wanted someone with a higher profile than Golden. But, yes, the coaching has been great too.

  15. Thanks. For tailgating, do you guys have any lots or spaces separate from the "normal" Raymond James/Bucs parking areas? Some people will park in the Hillsborough Community College (HCC) parking lots, which are on the west side of Dale Mabry Hwy across from the stadium. I'm not sure if anyone parks in the Yankees' Spring Training complex lots or if they're even open (they might be since this could be closer to a sellout with lots of local fans). They have the elevated crosswalk which is nice to not dodge DM traffic (or use the crosswalk at Tampa Bay Blvd on the south end of the stadium). Sounds good, that's where I used to park when I had my Bucs season tickets.

  17. And this was not proven. We should be punished on the unproven claims of a convicted felon? Yeah, that's not such a great option and/or precedent either. You do realize, there was no proof (outside of Shapiro's claims) for anything beyond the players who were suspended. Some of the photos were pretty damning but I guess no paper trail means no penalty. I understand what you are saying. My favorite set of photos were the ones that "steel trap memory" Shapiro claimed were taken on the field of the 2003 Fiasco Bowl in Tempe, Arizona. Yet when you looked closely at the pictures, the players were wearing the wrong colored jerseys and you could clearly see the Orange Bowl architecture in the background. Yahoo. What a bunch of fact-checkers, boy. Multiple guys claimed that "boat" photos were taken after they had already turned pro, including the one guy who went to Nebraska. It would have been a long commute for him to drive from Nebraska to Miami one day during the semester simply for a boat ride. I don't think anyone doubts that Shapiro let guys stand in his velvet-rope VIP section at the club. But handing out money, at least as it is detailed in SI's article on Oklahoma State? Yeah, that didn't happen.
  18. Y'all better start reminding the recruits that Louisville is going to get KILLED in the ACC without Teddy, same way that WVU is in the Big 12 without Geno. I'm not so sure about that. There are only 3-4 good teams in the ACC, depending on the season. Louisville, assuming their recruiting continues to go gang busters, will make noise in the ACC. Missing the point, slightly. Bridgewater is good. First round good. But he's leaving. Louisville may be good TODAY, but they will not be as good without Bridgewater, and will lose to most of the ACC teams once they join. They would definitely lose to Miami, F$U, Clemson, and VaTech. Same for UNC and GaTech. Don't be surprised by how much BC is improving under Addazio either and Syracuse is continuing to show strength.

  20. Not sure when your games tend to get scheduled, so does anyone know if this is a noon game, evening, whatever? Thanks!
