He was not brought in to sit the bench. You don't take a guy who was in the running to start at Bama as a RS freshmen and a 5 star recruit and not give him a chance to start and play in G5. This kind of talent or potential is does not sign G5 out of high school... well maybe ED Oliver and very few others.

Obviously...but maybe you're new here & didn't know that we brought it 4 star Woulard at QB, and he never played a down.

I have to ASSUME he eventually starts, but I would not bet anything significant that he trots out first v Elon.

I know most of people think Gilbert is an idiot and he is the reason for last year's two losses...blah blah blah.

I know that he is capable and with Barnett or either the other two backups can really put up 45 per game. We have good weapons out wide....a very good RB room, which I think is the key.

I think if we can score early on GT that we can beat them...they will have a hard time matching us point for point. We will win that game by 2 td's.

I like the way you snuck in the assumption that Barnett will start.

  3. Working on a possible bookend trip, catching USF-HOU, then WVU-UT the next weekend (for my WVU spouse, who has gone on more USF road trips than WVU).

Could wind up working out.  I'm not a big fan of Houston, but could be a fun week of checking out Texas...during a cool part of the year.

  4. I'm clearly in the minority, and maybe it'll grow on me, but I'm not loving the new uniforms.  A bit too shiny on the gloves & the gold numbers look a bit cheesy.  Looks a bit like we're borrowing from Oregon or Baylor.

But, I REALLY don't like the green/yellow '70s Oakland A's scheme, so maybe this works  Hopefully the players like them, as my opinion isn't key...and I'm just looking forward to seeing them winning.

What criteria would the AAC have to meet to become a "Power" conference? Are there any set guidelines for this? I don't see another entire conference being added. Two or four teams maybe, which I believe we have a decent shot of being included in that, along with UCF.

It's unlikely they'd go to P6, I know, but our Conference Pres (or whatever his title) has been pushing that notion.

I didn't quote anyone or name anyone.  Do you feel guilty?

Nope...I'm not sure what guilt feels like, but I'm pretty sure this isn't it.  But seriously, I didn't see any real hating on Taggart, but you clearly did (unless you were kidding).   I'm merely stating you can be critical of his skills or actions without being a hater (and the term "hater" is so stupid & overused, IMO).

I said it before.  Our coaches have a 3-4 year shelf life tops, then they're either moving on to greener ($$$$$) pastures because of our success or getting canned because of our failures.  And it's not just the $$$$, it's the more realistic shot at a National Championship.

Unless we move to P5...or AAC becomes P6 (less likely)

The haterade is strong in he for good ole Willie.

Trust if any in here work for someone else and another company was willing to pay you double or triple what you are currently making to do the same thing 98% of you would JUMP at that opportunity.

The man left us better than he found us. Appreciate his time here and wish him good luck in the future.  The amount of disparaging remarks on xCWT is amazing.

I'm not sure who you're citing as haters, but my only negative is that I really don't think he was a great or smart coach.  You can gauge a coach's skills without being a hater.

And that's all I'm saying. He came in, gave it his all, but when a much better opportunity came along, he took it, leaving us in a better situation than when he arrived. I don't see a problem with that all ...

We're not arguing...I'm saying that's going to keep happening if we're mired in the AAC.  It'd be cool to get someone loyal to the end, despite $$, but that may be a unicorn.

He was so full of ****. Anyone with cute slogans and sayings is like a used car salesmen. Q should get half of what he makes for the next ten years. Is he a good coach? Yes. Is he a great coach? We are about to see. Regardless, he is still a bullshitter (pun intended).

my take of Taggart:  kids connect with him & love him.  I don't think he's a bright coach, having watched countless head scratchers over his time here.  At least with FSU, he can be the main recruiter to get them on campus & afford to hire top tier coaches to do the heaving lifting/thinking.

smh ..... Still hatin' on Willie for going up the employment ladder.

I have no issue with him moving up the ladder.  My point is, a coach can say (and even legit feel) anything and be serious about building something at USF.  But you start throwing big $$, and they bolt (as would 99% of coaches in that situation).

But I'd rather have a coach dump us after a 10 win season than be stuck with a Holtz issue, where you flail AND pay him to leave.

lol He's getting good money here and some things you can't put a price on like stability.

Yup, as Taggart said, while here: I'm here to build something special.  We can compete for an NC.  Who's got it better than us?  NO ONE!

    *Bolts to Oregon*

    *year later, Bolts to FSU*

    Beat them. Beat them badly.

You're a reasonable UCF alum/fan.  What do you think of all these UCF'ers knocking USF for "weakening the brand" by "whoring" ourselves out for a 2 for 1?

My take is:  UCF's weaker schedule (true in the minds of voters of most G5 teams) was the main reason they didn't get a shot at NC (ok, maybe ESPN and P5 bias was co-main).  This means you take any reasonable offer to play a good/great P5 team.

I can't imagine UCF would turn down this deal, but maybe I just don't understand the UCF POV.
