  1. Vote for #USF in the NCAA's 6th Fan Competition today: http://bit.ly/1dUJqLI #6thFan #USF
  2. A couple of days old but here is the interview in writing....Very good news for next year. An NIT bid this year or any postseason can go a long way to develop a great 2014-15 Collins: I’m staying Junior point guard Anthony Collins, an All-AAC preseason second-team pick who has missed 11 consecutive games with knee swelling and tendinitis following surgery, approached reporters Monday to say he’s trying his best to get healthy and rejoin the team. Denying rumors, Collins added he’s happy at USF, wants to play for Heath and does not plan to transfer. “I feel I can help the team win, but I want to be 100 percent and not out there hobbling around on one leg,’’ said Collins, who said his preseason surgery was supposed to be routine, but there were complications due to an unforeseen reaction in his blood. “I still do want to be here and play for Coach Heath. He recruited me. I support him 100 percent. …I’m committed to being here.’’ If Collins can’t return this year, he’s a candidate for a medical redshirt, which would give him two more seasons at USF.
  3. 12-19 team, losing 3 of its' top scorers. Can't really argue with their assessment .... we had some freshmen talent coming in but not UK freshmen talent. i really think that had more to do with our reputation. We had our two best players in Rudd and Collins coming back with the addition of a good recruiting class. My expectations were for top 5 not bottom 5
  4. from the look of his shot at the game during warm-ups he is not a 3pt shooter
  5. they were gripping about his play early because he clearly wasn't 100%. after the first few games without him and all the turnovers that went away. this team dearly misses his ball handling and assists. anyone who at this point doesn't think he is extremely valuable to this team doesn't understand college basketball very well
  6. I guess I had higher expectations then most as you can go back to posts before the season. But I also expected AC to play all year. I think that adds 5-6 wins to this years team and I still think we get to 15-16 this year as is. And think NIT will do this team a lot of time that will only help for next year since we are so young and experienced.
  7. mclendon was a walk on also at one time but on scholarship now
  8. No one said to forget it, but the answer isn't always to fire the coach. Look at circumstances and be objective. There isn't a clear cut formula. What comes into play is current roster (what does the future look like), Who can you get to replace, contract etc
  9. I'm sure if heath was let go he would have a Div I job very quickly Most on your list are not up and comers or thought of that highly. How many on the list would you even want to coach USF? 3 Calipari, Stevens and Pitino
  10. the whole Nolan richardson fiasco was just like having to start over its not liked he stepped into a great situation
  11. USF doesn't need a big name head coach with the recruiting base the way it is. Now if USF continues on the road to mediocrity then you will have to up the ante on the level of head coach replacements. What USF needs is a energetic used car salesman that brings passion to his job and has the gift of gab to excite these local HS players and coaches. Those guys are out there and you don't have to pay a lot of money to get them as they are either at a smaller school, an assistant on a big school level, or out of work looking for another opportunity. Isn't that what we had when Seth Greenberg was here? That only lasts so long and gets old. And you want to talk about poor x and o's? these talkers usually are not good game coaches USF has one in Willie Taggart for FB Here are a few names in basketball who fit the profile I listed. John Calipari is one of the best ever and others like Brad Stevens, Shaka Smart, and Josh Pastner have been able to make a name for themselves. Guys on the come up like Richard Pitino, Archie Miller, Mitch Henderson, Michael White, Andy Toole, and Sydney Johnson would be coaches USF could probably get without breaking the bank at least right now, because those guys would win big and in a hurry here with the tools USF has in place. Those are but a few lesser name guys, but they seem to get it done quite well and are highly though of in the coaching world of college athletics. Calipari really we can get that level of a coach Richard Pitino viable option but two years coaching and is in his first year at Minn not really an option Archie Miller really thats an upgrade 2.5 years at dayton 1 NIT and took over a program in good shape Mitch Henderson 2 years at Princeton (power conference? and how many conference championships Michael White may be viable but needs to prove more Andy Tool Nice record but what is the claim beat Kentucky in NIT last year? Sydney Johnson the one that currently has Fairfield at 4-17 and has decreased victories his last 4 years TRY AGAIN
  12. I posted this on a different thread but think its more suited here. Plus I would say trending higher then trending down with the recruiting here is Stans overall record Total: 207–195 (.515) Plus take into account he has done two rebuilding projects one at arkansas and here at USF. When you do that you have two years to get the program going in the right direction take out the first two years at each of those programs and his record is 167-119 for a .584 winning percentage
  13. realistically football much weaker then the basketball confernece. But I would say basketball has better chance of going to the tourney in the next two years then the chances of winning the football conference

  15. For those younger bulls and some old ones like me here is a great history that I didn't know: Why our school was the University of South Florida when Tampa is not in south Florida. So everyone, here's your answer. As far as I can tell, there are four main reasons. 1. The name "University of Tampa" was taken. 2. Florida looked a lot different 50 years ago. Once you got south of Tampa and St. Petersburg, there wasn't very much civilization until you got to Miami and Fort Lauderdale. You could reasonably consider Tampa part of south Florida because not that many people lived in the real south Florida. No one would do that now with the population explosion in places like Sarasota, Fort Myers, and Naples (which went from about 15,000 residents in 1960 to over 250,000 in 2000, and it's probably even higher now). 3. When USF was founded, it was the southernmost public university in Florida. The University of Miami already existed as a private school, but the only three public schools were Florida (in Gainesville), Florida State (in Tallahassee), and Florida A&M (also in Tallahassee).
  16. here is his overall record Total: 207–195 (.515 Plus take into account he has done two rebuilding projects one at arkansas and here at USF. 17. why does the leader need to be a senior? could be any year player. He said last night on post game that his style is not to be a vocal leader but that he stepped it up the last few days and will continue to do so. Vic is the natural leader on paper, but corey, zack and brock should be as well
  18. I would really like to get Durham, but don't you think the best chance is that he has a relationship with Josh and Stan. Otherwise we really have no chance when going against the top programs around the country. Unless his main interest is to play close to home. USf needs to continue to build before we start landing this type of recruit.
  19. It is not just about the one win. If you can't see the foundation that is being built that you really don't understand college sports at all. This is the first time I can ever recall that the team is built with better players for the future. In the past, when we did have some success it was usually built on the back of one or two players that finally matured during their senior season or a guy like Dojo who was our team then left. Toward the end of the game, on tv, they showed last year's complete recruiting. I had forgotten that we still have Clayton and Zeigler coming in. Leday contributed last night. Hawkins is starting to come around. Pretty good young talent plus probably 2 more years of AC. I would say that is a pretty good foundation. Vega's been spewing the same crap since almost the day he followed Stan here. He never has had a clue about USF basketball and its' history ... and I'm not saying that Stan should get a lifetime contract but he should have at least a couple more years to see if he can build on that foundation. And Ziegler and Clayton have been here, assuming being redshirted .... if I misinterpreted your comment about them, my bad. As usual you're wrong again good buddy. I haven't been against Stan since almost Day1. I have nothing against the guy except that he's not a good HC, however good assistant coach and a good man, but just not a leader, motivator, and teacher. I have pulled for the guy to do well, still wish that he could, but it comes a time when you have to look at the evidence for what it is and the man has been a failure for years as a HC. My whole thing with wanting Heath gone after the season is related to the future and recruiting talent in order to build as some around here say, for the future. The next 2 classes are key for Stan or the next HC. USF won't have a better opportunity to build a better then solid basketball program then what's in front of them. Strikeout on these next classes and it's going to be some lean times for Stan and then the next Coach. His hands are tied for next year he only has one scholarship available, unless more transfer. And what is so special about the next two classes. His 2013 class is shaping up to be special. We have a solid base, we can use another PG and SG but he will be able to address those needs depending on the changes year to year. now if he hasn't made the tourney in 2-3 years then the subject might be worthy but to say CSH isn't the best fit right now at USF is way off base. The only candidate I would say is a big upgrade would be B. Pearl but he has past issues that I'm questioning whether USF would want to take a chance on. Plus I doubt we could pay him either.
  20. I agree, since I was one of the more vocal ones. Not sure if its a coincidence but the stories and coverage has increased and improved and I wanted those that care know. Hope it keeps up
  21. Whenever he returns, Collins insists it will be as a Bull. "I want to be 100 percent here because I feel that I can help the team win instead of being hobbled on one leg," he said. "I just want to get the swelling out of my knee and get it to look normal and play for Coach Heath. He brought me here and I love playing for him."
  22. AC: "I still do want to be here and play for Coach Heath...I support him 100%. IF he was thinking of leaving I would have thought he would be gone, and looking at potential suitors. You are true things have happened the way you state as well. Hope its not true, and he means what he says and stays at USF
  23. IF his true intentions were any different why would he seek out the media to clear things up. Obviously rumors were out there that were not true
