Here, I can play this game.

If the Big 12 collapses, here is the ACC's wishlist (in order). Notice how not all of the teams are from the Big 12, because the ACC isn't interested in B12 teams and this is all completely made up.

    1. WVU (100%)
    2. USF (100%)
    3. Cincinatti (100%)
    4. Tulane (80%)
    5. Kansas St (20%)
    6. Kansas (20%)

Disclaimer: these numbers came directly from my ass.

  2. I wouldn't be surprised if we did reject an invite to the B12, assuming the ACC also sent a conditional invite (FSU and/or Miami leaves).

I think we can all agree that it would be great to be in the B12, compared to the AAC. However, our only close conference-mate would be the one with the most annoying fanbase in all of college football. We are a better fit for the ACC and I can feel it coming. Just win, baby!

It's turning into a pro league, but it's more like major league baseball than the NFL.  At least the NFL has things in place like salary caps to keep parity in the league.  College football is turning more into the major league baseball model where the more money you have, the better team you can buy...and any new player that has great success at a lower level team is sure to be gone (off to one of the rich teams) the following year.

This is why most people (including myself) have given up on watching baseball.

Much as we all would love it, the ACC clearly has no interest in us. It took schools in California and SMU and has not remotely considered USF. I think our only chance at getting in the ACC would be if FSU and/or Clemson leave... yet they have nowhere to go, and if they did leave, it waters down the conference. Somehow, I think we have better chances with the B1G and B12, though UCF will protest and I have zero interest in interacting with that fanbase any further. B1G would obviously be a pipe dream, though recruiting FL and away games in winter in balmy Tampa would seem to have some potential appeal for those schools. The loss of Lee Roy Selmon and the lame duck years prior to AD DW's retirement really set us back - we remain the only prior BCS school outside of a P4 conference except for UConn, having self-selected back to independence. We're making great moves now, but the window of hope is ever shrinking at this point.

I wouldn't say they have no interest in us. They just don't need us yet. If FSU and/or Miami bolt, they will come crawling and we won't have to take a crap deal like SMU either. The two California additions were great gets for the ACC, despite it make no sense geographically. SMU just made them an offer they couldn't refuse. BTW, SMU doesn't need the TV money. They have bajillionaires in their pocket. Or is it the other way around? Doesn't matter.

They are undoubtedly a tough squad and the best team we will have faced, by far. Having said that, Charlotte was able to beat them in part thanks to their size. If we can just match them from outside, we can win this one. The players are going to be up amped for this game. The key will be to keep emotions in check and play smart basketball.

Man, so much of winning a bball game is emotions. At the end of the Charlotte game, even right before we finally took the lead at the very end.. the concerned look on Charlotte's players' faces gave it away they thought they were going to blow it. Then, their star player airballed an unnecessary 3 attempt. He was talking crap and taunting the crowd the entire game up to that point. USF's players looked chill and were smiling.

FAU was a big discussion point for this one. Quoted below:

A common question in our sprint to Selection Sunday is a variation on an annual theme. "Who is this year's Florida Atlantic?" The Owls' overtime loss Thursday at UAB may add to the perception that last year's leading Cinderella is underachieving. Upon closer inspection, however, the opposite is true. FAU's record (18-5) isn't quite where it was a year ago at this time (22-2), but the Owls played a far tougher non-conference schedule (53rd from 298th), are ranked higher (A.P. No. 20 vs. "others receiving votes") and are doing all of it in a better conference. Further, last season's Final Four team had nothing like this year's wins over tourney-bound Arizona, Texas A&M and Butler. All of which leads us to conclude that "this year's Florida Atlantic" may yet be, well, Florida Atlantic.”

It's pretty insane how a single season can make a lasting perception of a program. See: UCF and FAU.

  7. All the ACC needs is ND to finally join in Football and they are stabilized as a top 3 conference, with B12 a distant 4th. I'm having serious doubts that Clemson even wants to leave. All this speculation always comes from B12 homers wishfully thinking out loud. ND joining would net them a great TV deal that everyone would be happy with. Unfortunately, that would probably mean USF does not get invited to the ACC. However, the Big 12 would definitely not think twice at adding to their profile in Florida. Plus... war on I4.

I have a feeling that once FSU is done throwing a tantrum, they'll realize that the ACC is actually their best shot with the expanded 12-team playoff. Also considering that the SEC doesn't need them and the B1G wouldn't want to have another non-AAU Nebraska type team bringing down their academic profile. At least Nebraska was AAU when they joined.

  8. Answering my own question:

Looking at this year... the following P5 teams would have been relegated (finished dead last)

    B1G — Indiana

    SEC — Vanderbilt

    ACC — Wake Forest

    B12 — Cincinatti

    PAC12 — Colorado (lmao)

    Previous season (2022)

    B1G — Northwestern

    SEC — Vanderbilt

ACC — Virginia Tech (toss up with Virginia and BC)

    B12 — Iowa State

    PAC12 — Colorado

So far no surprises.. Let's look at a pre-covid season (2019)

    B1G — Rutgers

SEC — Arkansas (are they still considered blue blood? whatever, RELEGATED)

ACC — NC State (lost H2H against GT and has worse conference record)

    B12 — Kansas

    PAC12 — Arizona

I think this would be awesome for the sport. Just my humble opinion.
