It turns out the AAC really wasn’t good at basketball this year and while we overachieved we also didn’t deserve NCAAT. The prognosticators were right to only project 1-2 teams from the AAC it turns out.

if we win 20+ games next year again we’re in, but this was a down/transitional year for the conference. It’s readily apparent unless you’re purely a USF homer.

I disagree. I think UAB lost a close game against a higher seeded opponent. They got lucky in the AAC tourny.

What doesn't make sense to me is why FAU got in over us... They were clearly overrated, losing to a tired Temple team and now out in the first round of the NCAAT. The AAC should be a 2-3 bid league, but the wrong team got sent, because of some recent name recognition from last year.

I think both the ACC and Big 12 either currently has or soon will have remorse on some of their expansion.

I am not knocking these fine schools, but I think the leagues will regret taking them:

    ACC: SMU, Cal, Stanford

    Big 12: Cincy, Houston

Not picking on those schools, just thinking that the choice at the time looked good, but is now not ideal.

I agree about the ACC, but I doubt the Big XII ever regret taking Houston (see basketball).

The full list of NIT-declining schools, per ESPN: Arizona State, California, Florida State, Indiana, Maryland, Memphis, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Oregon State, Pitt, St. Bonaventure, St. John's, Stanford, Syracuse, UCLA, USC, Washington

    Net rankings of opt-outs:

    32 St. John's
    40 Pitt
    46 Oklahoma
    69 Washington
    75 Memphis

These teams that opted out were never getting invites to the NIT (hilarious that they declined an invite that was never coming)

    82 Maryland
    84 Syracuse
    87 St. Bonaventure
    88 USC
    90 Ole Miss
    96 Florida State
    98 Indiana
    107 UCLA
    113 Stanford
    128 California
    134 Arizona State
    165 Oregon State

  4. Can someone explain to me how a team that finished 12th in their conference goes to any post-season tournament, let alone get the home game over a regular season conference champion?

College basketball is even worse than football! ESPN doesn't even have an area on their NCAAM site for the NIT. Embarassing.

Sometimes losing to a team you should beat is what it takes to grow into a champion. Look at the lightning lose to the Bluejackets in the first round as as the top seed and favorite and then  use it was motivation win back to back cups. It is all  about how the staff and players  respond to losing and adversity .

the lightning get to keep all their players though..

Today was like owning a stock that goes up like 10,000% and then watching it drop 50% in one day.

It's definitely up overall but that one day hurts.

It's good to keep a big picture perspective.

This season was the first time this program ever even GOT to the AAC semifinals. Is losing that game fun? No. But, if we are ever going to win the AAC tourney, one first has to get to the semi's, and learn what that's like. The elder statesmen of the team can pass that down, and those expectations and that learning can continue in the halls of LRS and the YC in the offseason.

We have always punched up as an athletics program. We are going through the painful growing process of becoming a program that doesn't want to just punch up forever, but to live with the pressure of being the one with the target on it's back. The one that's favored, ranked, expected to win, whatever, and then goes out and does just that. That's hard to do in one single season, and hard to do consistently over many seasons.

I do hate today but we CAN win the NIT, and that'll be another "next" for this program. In football, Memphis will be tough but we can and should compete this year - that's another "next".

Chins up Bulls Nation. For the most part all the things we've been wanting to happen, are happening, but there will be bumps and learning and lessons along the way. But we seem to finally be trying to build this thing the right way.

Oh, and hopefully some actual, juicy rendering will be here in a few weeks.

Can we though?! I'm not spending any more money this season. I guess I'll try to be excited to watch the NIT, as some other teams decline their invites altogether.

  8. Just drove past McLane Stadium in Waco twice in 2 days. That's what we should be getting for how much we're paying. What Populous is giving us is not in the same class, but we're paying as much as they did (adjusted for inflation). I wouldn't mind any stadium on-campus. It just feels like we're really getting ripped off and we should be getting a much better designed stadium for that much.
