  1. K-Rock great job on the helmets, you should really see if they could use one of the two for a special game like Homecoming every year just to show that we do have some history. I would probably stay away from the USF one as I know critics will make comments about Univ. of San Fran's logo and the similarities but it still looks sweet. I noticed the pics have been taken down? I hope it wasn't b/c of any of my comments unless the University wants to keep the players progress to themselves. Regardless you can tell the team is busting their arses and buying into the team concept something I think we have lacked in previous yrs. Also it looks like Hovan is putting in the time and enjoys what he is doing which is very important, especially being an ex-NFL player who is used to getting crazy salaries for playing the game he loves and not having to worry about everyone else's progress like he does now.
  2. This kid is solid, I've seen and heard a lot of inside info on him and he would be a huge p/u for us. Also I'd love to rub it in the face of all my Canes(1of5 actually went to da U, typical fans)friends. He would be able to start as a true frosh for us and finally bring that everydown back that we need. I like Jojo but this kid is the real deal when it comes to APB who can play every down. He has legit D-1 size and speed, his highlight video should say it all as those aren't creampuffs he's facing. Alex if you read these boards just look at the South Plant kids that have succeeded and how they all went to another school besides the U(ex. Iowa) don't let that area hold you back like it does so many others and experience a college life that is as close to Miami as you will find without all the negative crutches! You and Asiantii would be a sick duo to try and stop and is something we can offer that Miami hasn't had since Ken Dorsey a decade ago, a great QB. Regardless make the 954 proud, I haven't seen a back like you since I played against Gator and those are some huge shoes to fill but you still have a yr left to show everyone(also you know as well as I do no one could fill his shoes but to be in the same sentence should mean enough). BTW there are a lot of Paladins at USF so you would fit right in, as well as SFLA students.
  3. From looking at those pics, Juju is a beast, Jeune has legal guns, Joyce is a solid NFL prospect, whoever is in the green under armor shirt next to Jeune is a sick physical specimen and our team looks ready to do some damage. I was shocked at Chandler's size but he is built like a bowling ball and will be interesting to watch. The other player that is really intriguing from the pictures is Mcfarland and how cut he is, it makes me wonder if he is more of a WR than a TE now? Also our Sr's look focused and ready with Kayvon, Barrington, Popek and BJ all looking in peak physical condition. I really hope we use at least one of those two helmets you have displayed as they both are sweet looking but also show respect to our history as a program.
  4. You can't compare Florida's High School Football talent based on how many have won the Heisman. Florida hasn't really been able to flourish in football until schools were desegregated which I believe was in the late 60's(we had teams compete for the mythical national title but it usually was the same school, Coral Gables). Before the 50's-60's it was a predomiately white sport and our best athletes were working in the cane fields instead of going to school. If you broke down the percentage of players Florida sends to D-1A schools against the state's population we still would be in the top three. I'm not sure if this is still true but we had the most players from one high school and County that are active players in the NFL(Glades Central High was along with Broward County). Speed is usually the one trait that seperates Florida players from the rest of the country, just like Nebraska/Wisconsin(Midwest states in general) produce big OL, that attribute is usually what seperates our players. PA and OH aren't like they used to be where they had big industrial cities with a large amount of their population being blue collar middle class Americans. Texas and Cali both produce top notch players as well but the other states are GA, AL and LA in terms of top tier athletes. Ohio and PA are still big recruiting areas but they also have large populations compared to the three previously mentioned states. Schnelly proved it in the early 80's that if you can keep the local talent home you can compete for a National title in Florida.
  5. I would hope our training staff made sure he focused on adding at least half of that weight to his legs and was doing agility/stretching exercises to help his body adjust to the weight gain. I'd be more worried about his stride since that can make a world of a difference when you have elite level speed like he does. I have a feeling it's probably more around like 18lbs he gained and will end up losing 5 more during two a days and be around 173 but still solid for his size. I'm excited to see him finally play his natural position and hope they utilize his great vision and quickness by running draws to allow him to create plays.
  6. At least if you are going to go to Kentucky go to UL, as Charlie Strong is going to own that state until he leaves! Or even better stay home and play with your friends and help turn the new U into the powerhouse it can become.
  7. HeyHey, He was talking about Eveld playing terrible last year bc I said he didn't look amazing and his comment was in regards to that remark I made about Bobby Eveld. As for Litton, he is an exceptional player and anyone that throws for 2000 yards in Florida's upper classification is a great player especially if they are only a Soph. as you would expect them to only get better. Anyone that says different has never played football at that high of a level when considering there are teams in Florida that will have backups get D-1 schollies(Dillard 1999 off the top of my head). Obviously teams like LSU don't offer a kid when they are a soph. unless they are absolutely certain that the player they are offering is one of the best in the country and talented enough to desrve a scholarship, which should say it all.
  8. "I don't think that there's anyway that Floyd is our second string QB. Eveld looked much better tonight. Floyd was very hesitant and held onto the ball way too long." I take that as he has the second string spot locked up, but like I said people have their good days and bad. In my opinion which thats all it is, I think Eveld could develop into a decent QB, there is no right or wrong answer. When your running skelly it's all about the Offense and them getting their timing down and making sure they know the plays. If he can't compete in 7on7 drills then its not going to get any better when they are playing live. Who knows maybe Pat Borders son is the next M. Raymond!
  9. I didn't know he was only a soph., like I was saying I think he's good but I don't think he's talented enough to beat out the competition he will face at hose three schools yr in and out. When I say that I'm saying that from watching his mechanics and I was going to say he was a baseball player from how he throws the ball and his footwork. He has the size and athleticism but is he going to be in the top ten QB's for 2014? Who knows maybe he will, he looks like he has the toughness and ability to make plays which can make up for other things you lack in. Nobody knows who is going to be a homerun recruit when they get to college but you can look for things that they might lack. Although a kid that wants it will work to correct his flaws and is the kind of player I would want. He still has two yrs so who knows how much will change during that time. As for Eveld, someone was commenting earlier about how good he looked at practice the other day and said he looked solid and basically had the number two spot locked up. Then again people have their good days and bad but I think it will eventually all come together for him, once things slow down and that usually happens with the more reps you get and older/maturity. I wasn't trying to compare the two just saying that we have someone that has the ability to take over when BJ leaves and will allow Asianti to develop unless he's like Bridgewater as a true frosh.
  10. Looks solid, but watching his mechanics it makes me question if he can pull the same plays off against the best of the best. He is more of a finesse thrower and doesn't have the arm strength to throw across the field in tight coverage or threading the needle. Although some QB's can make up for that by having that clutch gene, moxy or flat out athleticism, which he def. has. I just don't see why he would want to compete yr in yr out at schools like UT, UM or LSU b/c they'll have those players that have all the physical attributes to show off during practice(could hurt his psyche) since it seems like his strength is more of a product of him being a gamer. If I had to pick between him or Eveld, I would take Bobby as he has a cannon for an arm, pro style QB size and athleticism(dual sport athlete). I know last yr he didn't look amazing but he's still young and needs to develop and especially gain a good 25lbs.
  11. I like his motor and quickness behind the line of scrimmage but know he will end up as an OLB and wonder if he has the speed to keep up w/ the upper tier athletes. It seemed to me like he was just running around the OL instead of engaging with them and when he did he would draw a stalemate and wait for the back to come to him. At the next level he'll have to be able to shed off those blocks and if he is tackling someone from behind that will not be a good thing playing LB. Just like any other prospect you never know but he does have the frame, size and nose/motor for the ball to be effective. Depending on his character he could be a great p/u after a couple yrs b/c he def. will have to put the time in switching to a much more complex position from a physical and mental standpoint. Another thing I am a big proponent for is stats players put up against the higher classes and think its undervalued by recuiters and he has the numbers that's for sure. I wouldn't question the coaching staff if they pulled the trigger on him but it seems like they might have some other avenues they can explore before they give him a full commitment.
  12. KId looks solid, def. has a nose for the ball, high footbal IQ and can bring the wood if necessary. From what I saw it looks like he would have to bulk up like most true frosh and somewhat question his speed. Whenever you see a player have that many long runs(against Florida schools)it makes you question the competition he was facing and if his speed is legit D-1 CB material. Regardless I think he'd be a great addition.
  13. I would think the best stat to use is how many people get arrested at the games from altercations. Look at UF/UGA, they have to play in Jacksonville b/c the rivalry became too hostile and probably some other reasons. If I recall the last time we played them in Tampa there were a bunch of arrests and know even die hard Bulls fans came back from Orlando the last time saying they would never go back b/c of all the BS. Any other school that comes to Tampa(except for Miami, but they're usually not even alumni) are basically greeted w/ open arms as long as they are civil but not UCF fans for the most part. I also would say there def. is more hatred between the students since most of them have friends from high school that attend UCF and want to prove their school is better. It really doesn't matter who we play, all that matters is the same thing that matters for every game and that's a W.
  14. I think it was a smart move on our part to sign these deals with both coaches, especially Heath(I pray that he loves it in Tampa and would be happy to finish his career here). The one thing that stood out to me was the difference in incentives if Skip wins the BE and gets a BCS auto spot compared to if he gets an at large spot in a BCS game. I'm guessing they are putting more emphasis on this year as it is our last yr we can receieve an auto BCS spot. So If Skip has the yr like he should and schools come a knockin we also will get something out of it with the buyout. In my opinion I have a feeling Skip is going to be gone after this yr anyways if he has the season we all are expecting w/ the talent returning. It's now or never since next yr would be a huge rebuilding yr w/ no established QB and I think he realizes he needs to jump ship ASAP since the BE is not going to be an ideal situation from a recruiting standpoint. I know Doctor Lou is chirping in his ear and telling him to get out while he can and so this was a play by our AD to get something out of him if he does decide to leave. If he has a bad yr than he will have a lot of ground to make up before a "new" BCS program will take a chance on him, considering the resources he has here and there is really no excuses for not being able to win the BE in four yrs time. Risk vs Reward! But I think we have the most to gain, there are more than enough coaches out there that would love an opportunity to coach a program like ours. One that comes to mind right away that I would love to have is June Jones and his high powered offense with Florida recruits and utilize his Texas connections as well. Only time will tell.
  15. From growing up and playing in Miami/Broward there is a since of pride about playing in that area knowing your going up against the best of the best(a lot of the best kids don't even make it out of high school b/c either grades or jail). Schnelly basically ingrained it into most SFLA players and from then on there was a bond made between players to want to keep SFLA/Miami relevant. Plus it doesn't hurt when you have south beach a few miles away and are treated like kings. As well as it's a private school w/ kids that are loaded and can afford to throw epic parties and attract famous celebs that the players can meet. As for Tampa there is a lot of great talent just like the rest of Florida but they want to branch out and get the whole college experience. Where as in Miami they want to stay close to what they know, ex. Willie Wiliams goes to Gainesville and Louisville and still can't bring the ghetto out of him and throws away a possible NFL career.
  16. My other point was just b/c he's a small back doesn't mean he can't run in between the tackles. He has great vision, quickness, top end speed and lateral movement which can be devastating in between the tackles if you make it past the first line of defense. The center of the field is full of the slowest players on that side of the ball, so why try to out run them laterally, when you can run by them more effectively. That's typically where a RB will run when a draw is called since the WR's are spread out and the middle of the field is open with usually only a spy(MLB) on the QB, so he has to commit one way or another and if BJ can make a great fake then its even more effective. It's basically like running a PR but having the wedge set and you find the opening, which he has proven he can do from the reverses and kick returns he has ran previously. Just my thoughts after seeing how he was utilized effectively in high school, which I know is not BCS D-1 but in Florida at the 5A level it basically is considering most of those players(teams that are good)eventually went on to D-1 schools.
  17. You probably are right I just remember his returns and getting blown up trying to catch a screen pass. You obviously can play RB and catch a screen pass but my point was more so towards the fact that in High school he was effective running a draw. Draws are usually only effective on second and long or third and more than a couple yards to gain. That's why I was saying to use him as a 3rd down back when he was younger but if he can be an everydown back now than that would be even better since it would make things that much more unpredictable. I know he didn't have the weight to be that previously but maybe he has gained some weight since then. Watch his film and you'll see what I'm talking about, he has amazing lateral movement which allows him the ability to hide behind the OL and make quick cuts to escape the initial DL, then when he sees a gap he hits it with his speed and thats when the arm tackling comes into play and he can break those. Maybe not like in high school but he will at least be out in the open where he needs to be. The other advantage is the play action we could run w/ BJ as either a bootleg or let him roll out and make a decision to either tuck it and run or through to the open WR. Just my observation its a lot easier said than done.
  18. After watching his video again, I really like him and I think the Welker analogy is spot on, as he seems like a great route runner, high football IQ with great hands. But I really do not believe he runs a true 4.3 forty or a sub 10sec 100m. Regardless he is a solid player and that is what counts, he has adequate speed to make it at the next level, it will just come down to how bad he wants it. Most of his plays are out in the open but I have to attribute that to his ability to find the open space but isn't your typical playmaker, like a BJ Daniels. I know that's comparing him to an amazing athlete but I'm talking more about his ability to make a play when he isn't running in open space. I hope we get him though as we could use a player like him, reminds me of Taurus Johnson/Ean Randolph which is the one type of WR we are missing.
  19. I'm not saying this kid can't run a TRUE 4.3 forty but it is very rare that an athlete even at the NFL level can. Coaches, recruiters, etc. can't acurately time a kid in the forty b/c there is human error and that's not even considering the conditions. I just have a problem when I hear kids saying they can run a 4.3 forty b/c it is not something that common. In my opinion its a pointless stat unless your looking for a KR/PR where the player will be running North/South at full speed. Although even then it can be debunked, see Desean Jackson, but one that does fall in line would be Devin Hester who can run a true 4.3. Usually the 100 meters is the best way to guage a KR as top end speed is what will standout with players that can run sub 10sec 100meters. The only time it really comes into play is with CB's b/c they can make up lost ground, were S's can use angles to make up ground. Sorry about the rant its just something that would always bother me when I hear people saying they can run a true 4.3(which is the time every athlete wants to run, although you can find a very select few that can run sub 4.3 but they usually have track backgrounds). I agree with the statement about bringing in someone that wants it compared to talent as M. Raymond is a perfect ex. of that and I hope he proves everyone wrong at the next level as well. We have seen more than enough supposed top tier talent come and go and I don't have a problem w/ that but I do if we are playing a kid based on that. Recruiting is a hit or miss game except for measureables but to me the most important thing is their intelligence(football IQ), motivation and love for the game and school. Those kids will work as hard as it is necessary to make up for their weaknesses. Where the ones that are given everything and courted get spoiled and think their violation doesn't stink. If he really wants to play here than I hope we offer him b/c it will be worth the risk.
  20. I know this isn't exactly the topic but it was the closest one I could find. I went back and watched L.Lamar's high school highlight film and was noticing all of his plays were when they were running a draw play. Which is logical considering his attributes and was wondering if they will utilize that this year with him in the backfield. I can't believe we have had him out at WR all these yrs and not running him on 3rd downs and making the D stay home b/c he could take it to the house anytime, which then would allow the WR's and especially the QB more space to throw the ball. When we were throwing those screens to him they take way to much time to develop and match him up against a similar athlete in a CB. But when you run a draw you have him running behind a huge OL and he can see whats coming at him instead of hoping not to get his neck broken! I think we'll have the lightning next yr at RB the only question is if D Murray is the thunder? Then we obviously have the X factor in BJ Daniels, which every college program lives and dies by their QB play.
  21. Also is #3 still available? If so we need to get him, he reminds me of Fisher and I loved watching a player like that run w/ the ball! You never knew when to count him out, you'd look down in frustration and then all of a sudden he'd bounce out for another 15 yards and a first down! Maybe it was just a couple of plays that stood out to me, who knows he might have been a senior that yr?
  22. I didn't see a thread about this kid but know he's been talked about but I think Kurt Benkert is a great backup option. After watching his junior highlight films he seemed like he has potential, his arm isn't amazing but seems more like a player with moxey. He never really had to scramble with that offense but it seems like if necessary he could. I have to complement him on his highlight music taste as well, not sure who the band was but nice change from your normal Lil'weezy. Don't get me wrong I like Young Carter but not when you watch highlight reels be different and unique. Just an outside observation looking in. No disrespect to you Asiantii, as I have stood up for you I just feel he is a good choice for competition and any great athlete wants competition. Especially when your not second to anyone, obviously you know that answer as we are all expecting big things from you in 2013!
  23. I agree with you Bullwinkle, I think we will end up getting the raw end of the deal but the main point is if we win and dominate the BE we will have an arguement. I think the BE is playing this perfectly by adding quality in football w/ Boise and bringing in schools w/ some tradition but a large viewerbase/Metro area in SMU, Memphis, Temple and Houston. Then you have two schools who both have are based in large Metro areas in UCF and SDSU(both are premium recruiting areas in football). If the system does endup being biased and there is an arguement like there is now to change it we will be in good shape with all the these cities being behind us. Granted I think it was a bad comment by Obama to say he would intervene but that will be something we could use for an arguement as we will represent a large portion of the US population. When dealing with contracts like we are now and the schools being a majority public schools the government can easily intervene and make a case. Regardless the main thing is to win our games and then we can biotch about the new system, until then its a moot point. But look at what Boise, Utah and TCU were able to do in a few years where there was already a contract in place for only 6 BCS conferences. They have changed how the BCS functions as well as conferences as a whole. This has been going on for years and nothing has changed, look at the old SWC it's part C-USA part BIG12. Then you have the schools that played the big boys and won with Da U, VT and FSU all of them breaking the old school mold in the past 30 yrs by winning. We just have to put up or shutup!
  24. After watching all the film available to me(for free), I thought D'Vo was our best prospect(Wiggins is close second). I think this kid is the real deal and funny that any recruiting service doesn't have this kid as a top 150 talent. This kid is a beast and has all the intangibles and no disrespect to Price as I think he is a great athlete but D'Vo seems to me like the exact same player but faster and more athletic. I know I read somewhere that Wiggins is going to be an academic casualty but that kid is sick also. If he can play this year I think we will be so loaded at WR we won't know what to do with all that talent. I'm not one for switching kids positions but if that is the case than maybe they should switch T-Rex back to CB and I'd put V. Marc at RB, that kid is solid(thick) and an athlete and could play the position we NEED help in like no other. Also, in regards to our RB situation I think Shaw would be great for an offensive system like Florida ran ustilizing BJ. I feel we need to adapt to our players and not flipmode. We aren't in a situation where we can control the situation, we need to utilize these players the best we can. We are loaded every year on D but for some reason the one position we are weak on is CB(-Webster, he's solid) we didn't try to figure something out and instead focused on WR which really didn't make a difference regardless. We have the talent and Davis is going to be our first non bust offensive draft pick ever! Mark my words the kid has always had a nose for the ball it's up to us to get him the ball(I wouldn't be surprised if he is 6'5 by the time he graduates, kind of like MJ, seems like he's getting taller every time I see him). Welch is another solid player as is Griffin, then add in Dunkley and those are all solid D-1 WR's, but missing what Price and D'Vo can offer, SIZE with hands you can rely on. We definately need them to help our redzone offense where these other players can not but on D I really hope Chandler pans out and get's it together b/c him and Kino could be a sick Miami Connection. With our rediculous rotation of talented DE's that front four would be a sight/nightmare to see, then add in the athleticism and speed of our LB's and WOW, the posibilities are endless! Who knows as time has showed us time and time again the players we least expect to contribute end up being stars. I like Mccall(think he might be a product of being on a talented team) has the size and athleticism, Spencer is another solid recruit but question is what position, same with one of my favorites after watching just a little of his film Guito(I know he has some Sicilian in him) but seriously I loved the fact that he hasn't played the sport but seeing him out there his football IQ looks like a seasoned vet. His blocking skills at WR were amazing and then his nose for the football at DE(staying at home when supposed to) was top notch. His frame is solid and I know he doesn't run a 4.4 but has some great game speed/quickness. Bivins I really hope is able to return to full speed after his injury. He is a solid CB and would be exactly what we need but at the same time it seems to me his injury is pretty serious and why most backed off. I really hope I'm wrong on this, even if I'm right it doesn't mean you can't get back(McGahee perfect example) to your elite level, but I know how hard it is especially mentally over coming a leg injury playing at an athletic position like CB(in my opinion the hardest/most athletic position to play). But having ties to the purple hurricanes(used to be one of the dominant teams in Fl back in the day) I'm pulling for him! Go Purple Canes, didn't go there but father did(as did Tom Petty!!)and always love to see a player choose us over UF, even though the Gators are my second team(too many family ties to the school, but always a Bull first!). Regardless none of these players will really matter this year, as we have more than enough talent(like always) the question is can we utilize it and actually make something out of these players! I hope so but have heard/thought that many times before.
  25. Also I'm hoping he actually comes through on his promise to get to the NFL and does what is needed to get there. I watched a documentary on Sumo wrestlers and they are well trained athletes in their own rite, and if he has that dedication, he will become a scary athlete with our food and nutrition program and weight training programs. This is also a case were the athlete is actually bigger than listed, no way this guy is 280, unless he's 5'8. Q came in a lot bigger but didn't go through the rigorous training and nutrition programs(if you want to call them that) that he has so the sky could be the limit with this kid, he definitely is top heavy which is nice to see for once. Who knows I remember we had a similar situation with a German kid, but I'm going to give this kid the benefit of the doubt after having at least performed at a competitive level of some kind. I really would love to see us use the 3-4 with him if he pans out, think about who we have returning at LB and all four deserve playing time, plus would allow Lanaris to be on the field to lead everyone.
