It was rather disappointing that all the alumni and students didn't stay to cheer until the end, when it really mattered.

Props to those who did stay.

I rewatched the game and expect to see less of Sawtelle and more of Broyles. Sawtelle is simply a liability and constantly over commits on run plays without enough athleticism to recover and get off blocks. This wreckless play will get us hammered against GT. I sure was hoping to get a graduate transfer at that position, but maybe the coaches feel Broyles and the other underclassmen can handle the load.

Looks like Sawtelle proved you wrong!. I'm sure you don't mind at all.

He probably read “Raving Fans” once, does that count?

Raving Fans: A Revolutionary Approach to Customer Service

LOL, I had to google it but yea  I guess if people who call into customer service lines are raving fans because you are so good and then you leave and take your star employees with you - that would fit.

    I stand corrected.

So following your logic the fanatics that should really be upset are WKU.  Left there to come to USF, took recruits, coaches, etc.

I've resigned from several employers and taken and tried to take the best people.  Guess I fall in the same boat as CWT.

    Go Bulls!

Yea they should be and probably are.  They are fans no?  Fans are not rational last time I checked.  Maybe that is our problem these days idk.

As for you, I don't know your situation.  People generally are not fans in professional settings.  Do you have fans?  Maybe some of your previous company's fans are mad at you and see you in the same light.   If you don't have fans then you are likely in a different boat.

You got some Willie hate for sure.

Try to focus on his body of work while at USF and not one game.  He was a good steward of the program and left if better than he inherited it.

He's one game in at FSU and he's a bum?  Wow!  Hope you don't manage people or procreate.  Tough standards for sure.

    Go Bulls!

I have not read this entire thread or all of @puc86 's comments, but the ones I have read seem pretty factual.

He did mention something about being a bulls fan (short for fanatic) so it makes sense he looks at things through the lens of what is best for USF.

Looking through that lens I appreciate what he did for the program but he could have left and been more gracious in interviews about USF after leaving.  One could debate whether he should have stolen our recruits or tried to get CCS as his DC.  He did those things for his career but should I, as a fan, be happy about it?

xCWT has a sckechy record that can be

You don't have to he a hater to get pissed at some of the things he has done since leaving.  It certainly shouldn't preclude you from procreating.

I'm also grateful for what he did at USF.

With that said, I wan't him to fail at FSU for a couple of reasons.  First, I'm tired of the AAC being a farm system for P5 coaches so I want all former AAC coaches to fail.  Secondly, FSU is an in-state school and anytime an in-state school falters, it's better for USF.

In all honestly, I enjoyed hearing about the loss.  I am not sure why.  I guess,  he said some crappy things in the press a few weeks ago that seem to indicate that he harbored some resentment towards USF.

If that is the way he feels about us then seeing him stumble gives me some petty spiteful pleasure.  He also tried to take CCS and a bunch of our recruits when he left.  He has every right to do that but I am a USF fan and I have a right to be pissed about it.

In all fairness, this was a .500 team last year that finished 6th out of 7 in their division facing what looks to be a very good VT team coming off a 9 win season. This team has some obvious flaws.

Ok thats true....but also if you go by stars they should be loaded with guys on offense with 4 and 5 stars.

They nationally had since 2016 3rd, 6th, 11th ranked class.

I can understand how USF was a dumpster fire when he got here but he has some players that are pretty good.

I think Taggart is a heck of a recruiter and he was able to recruit well at USF giving us a significant talent advantage over our fellow AAC brethren.  I think it covered up many his flaws in coaching.

I do not think we will have the same separation in talent in the ACC.  I guess over the likes of Wake and Duke but Clemson, Miami, VT and the yearly game with UF will require him to be a great game day coach.  I am not sure he has demonstrated that before.

Strong said he polled every offensive assistant on who should start, acknowledging the decision wasn't a consensus. He added Barnett's experience and maturity (he's a 22-year-old married father of an infant son) also were factors in the decision.

It wasn't a consensus...I am not sure if I should be trouble by that or happy that someone almost as good is waiting in the wings.

Also, to me "maturity" is a code word for doesn't fail a bunch of classes.  I think that really hurt Kean.

Which is maybe one reason CCS chose Barnett. If CCS and Gilbert prefer to run a pro style offense

Sterling Gilbert has never ran a pro style... He runs veer and shoot.

Fair enough, I was just building off michibull's point.  I am happy that we picked the best QB to fit their system.  We will have a better idea on Saturday.

Which is maybe one reason CCS chose Barnett. If CCS and Gilbert prefer to run a pro style offense, and they feel they have the personnel to run it to their standard, why wouldn't they pick the QB that is most qualified to do it? Why would a HC and OC run an offense they are not comfortable with?

I think this makes a lot of sense.  We always seem to have access to dual threat QB's and perhaps rely of them due to OL troubles we have.  My memory might be fuzzy but I believe our last two HC's preferred pocket passing and even tried to convert the talent we had to fit that scheme to no avail.

It seems that now that we have a so called pocket passer Gilbert will get to implement the system he wants.  That does not say the BK or CO were not solid passers from the pocket.  I really haven't seen enough to know their strengths and weaknesses.

My only knock on Kean was that he did not seem to provide a spark on the few occasions he was in the game.  Someone compared his HC career to Grothe or something but Grothe was special the moment he stepped on the field.

**** that's a name I haven't heard in awhile. I played against him in high school (basketball). Dude tried to dunk on me, almost jumping over me. I fouled him hard and almost got kicked out. I didn't mean to foul the guy but I was not letting his nuts hit my face!

LOL, for me and probably others on the boards it does not seem like that long ago.

While you were avoiding getting nutsacked these boards were much like they are today, filled wit crotchety old men hanging on every word of David Glaser while he drove across state to Cornelius's signing ceremony where he pulled out an UF cap.

Man he did look pretty quick running around I wonder how his speed compares to now.

I'm really just glad he is not a tree.  Looks like he is not afraid to pull the ball down once in a while.

Everyone is referring to him as a pocket passer, which he is, but the kid is an athlete I'll give him that. thanks

I was a Chris O fan but I'm pretty excited about this kid.  The dude is a 5 start QB, something we've never come close to in the past.

I'm old enough to remember striking out again and again on guys like Cornelius Ingrim and Brent Schaeffer only to have to settle for Pat Julmiste.

Carlton Williams and Ford were phenomenal athletes but there were reasons they fell to us in those days.  That was true for many of our star players back then.  They all had something going on, whether grades or possibly work ethics that the bigs picked up on and passed on them.

What is our biggest knock against this guy? He got beat out at Alabama by Jalen Hurt?  Umm ok, I can live with that.

  13. What he said is true but I am not sure how necessary it was to say it.

If it was Doug or Judy I see his point but put it in context, who asked him that question, some starry eyed fan at his first press conference?  Some provocative A-hole reported trying to get a soundbite?

I would rather FSU struggle because their fans annoyed me a few years ago in the stands.  I just like to think of those people crying in their beers once in a while.  I am petty that way but that is what fans do I think.

xCWT has no interest to me anymore.

People here asked what he as accomplished, has he ever coached a team that was #2?  Has he one a championship or a bowl as HC?  Those are fair questions after a quote like this.  I mean  pointing things like that is only the "truth" right?

That being said, he did turn around WKU and USF and that is pretty impressive.  The question still remains is has he learned enough to take a program to the next level?  Will the fans give him enough time to accomplish his rebuilding?

FSU will want to win now, they are not as much as a rebuilding effort that he excels at.  It is a good test, of which I have almost no interest in the outcome.

I've seen all these guys play QB... I've had the good fortune of being able to follow Barnett.  I'll just let this season tell you what I saw.  He got a raw deal and didn't think things through... this kid is a different kind of talent.

I have really only seen Kean (and I am sorry but he reminds me of Bench) so how would you compare and contrast Brett with the other two?

  15. 16 hours ago, Bull Dozer said:

Brett said he has text message screen caps between the victim and Urban's wife.   The alleged abuser said in an interviewer that Myer knew about the accusation as well.  McMurphy also may have more than he's letting on as he didn't let the cat out of the bag on most of his Intel until after Meyer denied any knowledge about this at all....

Is someone making the argument that Urban's wife received a text message like that and did not share it with Urban?

I go to movies when I want to suspend disbelief to that level.  Personally, I am not sure how much responsibility Urban has in this situation but it was likely in his contract.  The stuff that happened at Penn state and the way people knew about what was going on and did nothing has driven a lot of this.

He is getting paid a lot of money, he has a lot of power and he is one of the most visible faces of the university.   With that comes certain responsibility I suppose and they are innumerated in his contract.

Most HC contracts have morality clauses and "conduct detrimental to the university" outs in them these days.  Pretty sure knowingly having a domestic abuser on your staff would violate those clauses.

Yup, Ohio State can go the sensitivity training route if they think Urban Meyer is worth it.

I remember the good old days where prying into people’s personal lives was fround upon. Fences make good neighbors. Now apparently it’s a company’s job to police their employees lives, who seriously wants this and why?

This all stems from what happened at Penn State so I assume they all have it in their clauses now to report any kind of abuse involving their staff.

  17. I came across this article a couple of days ago and was wondering what folks thought about the viability of Florida Poly

The article outlines a tragic story where they are cutting resources (in this case the only mental health resource) for some reason

"Since the end of the spring semester, the university has laid off a string of employees, citing organizational changes. But faculty union members insist the cuts largely target employees who’ve spoken up about ethical issues and other problems."

It just got me thinking about their viability.  Does anyone know ow they are doing?

To keep this relevant for the athletic forum, if they were to survive they would be even closer than UCF and twice the acrimony.
