  1. The current coaching staff definitely deserves part (if not alot) of the blame here. Again, BJ had his best year in 2009 (highest QB rating, most TD's) while racking up those stats verse by far the toughest schedule he's faced here at USF (7 teams finished ranked or "also received votes" that year on our schedule) also while missing 2 cupcakes at the beginning of the year to rack up stats against. He wasn't a Geno Smith that year or anything, but he was a good/very adequate QB who was dangerous. Somehow in 3 years since he's not only not developed, but regressed. At the very least, if BJ simply is incapable of improving and he is what he is, then the coaching staff needs to realize what they have and tailor the offense to take advantage of his strengths. I've seen no move by our coaching staff to do this. You have to put people in the right situation to succeed, you can't simply continue to do the same things hoping he might pick it up. At this point, that ship has sailed, so make the adjustments. right on. I keep harping on Snyder but he took a 5-7 team and in 3 years finished in top 10 in a much tougher conference. his QB last year had 13 TDs and 6 picks 57% completion percentage and his QB rating was 10 points lower than BJs. They went 10-2. He ran this QB 300+ times even though he only averaged 3.6 ypc (lower than BJs). Don't you think teams stack the box against them? Blitz them? He tailored the offense to fit the QBs strengths. Skip is trying to force BJ to adapt to his offense. That's not good coaching. While I agree and don't dispute what you guys are saying. What are you saying Skip should do? Convert to the option? I am not sure that Skip keeps BJ from running. I think that BJ wants to throw the 50 yard bomb. There is disconnect between coaching and execution. kansas state has a QB no better than BJ. in fact statistically speaking he is worse in every passing category as well as yards per carry. He had more rushing attempts than passing attempts last year. He averaged .89 passes for every run. They went 10-2 Last year BJ Daniels had 2.8 passes for every run. we went 5-7 that is a huge difference. BJ Daniels is not a natural passer. He is a natural runner. why is he throwing it 3 times more than he is running it?? it's the play calls. I'm not saying convert to the option but adjust your offense and play calling to your QBs strength (i.e. running the ball) why on god's green earth would you call 33 pass plays in a tight game where your rush first QB was averaging 4.5 ypc?? bring in extra blockers. use a **** fullback. wasn't holtz all about fullbacks when he brought the guy from ecu with him? what the hell happened to a blocking fullback. Even on Murray's TD run, the threat of BJ running opened the hole. BJ running opens things up for everyone.
  2. this. Not liking Holtz as a coach is fine, but wanting Leavitt back? gtfo Holtz has nearly DOUBLE the $$$ to pay his assistants. He himself is getting paid a lot more than Leavitt. The program was progressing under Leavitt, its regressing under Holtz. The Leavitt advantage to me was that he truly had passion for USF and cared about this program. I don't see that with Skippy.
  3. Leavitt got a settlement. Apparently the evidence wasn't so overwhelming that USF could just tell him to go piss up a rope. It could be spun. Hell, he could be required to see an anger management therapist as part of his new contract. Sign ideas for (insert home game here)... BRING BACK THE JIM!
  4. Everyone says that DW will stick with him, but remember, Doug has $$ riding on the success of the program too. Failure hurts his wallet and may prompt him to make changes.
  5. So... people "expect" him to make the catches that he's capable of making. I agree, but watch out, you may get labeled as insane around here for "expecting" anything positive. I'm sure he'd love a do-over, I don't feel like its worth discussing because it was one mistake and not a chronic issue. Carry on. Oh, for Del... A Davis = STUD

  7. Wait, are we turning on Davis now? Even great wide outs drop a ball occasionally. To me, it looked like he was expecting to get lit up. He's what, 19 years old? I'll give him a pass. That kid is a legit WR, expect big things from him.
  8. I'm tired of everyone saying i can't wait until he leaves...he is the best QB option that we have on the team right now. They did put in another QB last night for one play that resulted in a loss of yardage play. I hope i am wrong but even if Asanti does stick to his commit, if our Oline doesnt give him anymore time then BJ is getting right now then we will have the same results. The entire football team is horrible right now. 2 of his 3 picks werent his fault. One was a TD if caught. That pass hit the WR in the numbers. Davis as great as he has been let a ball go right through the hands on a play where BJ hit him stride for stride. We could finger point all day and its going to get us nowhere. Again, I'm not trying to defend BJ and say his is the answer to our problems, i am simply saying he isn't the only problem and i have a feeling if we dont improve in other areas....we floyd, eveld, or whomever will look twice as bad. Let's look at other areas of concern. Mitchell has fumbles two times now returning puts. No one is calling for a new punt returner. Murray's numbers are below average as a RB (lack of blocking facts into this as well) but no one is saying thank god he is a senior. I called for a new punt returner... see in game thread. Big plays are awesome and all, but if an offensive lineman is our best option to secure the ball, put him back there.
  9. Nevada game isn't that convincing. We played a mediocre team and took a miracle and complete let down on their behalf to come back at the end of the game. But that wasn't the point of this thread, the team did play their hearts out. There was no quit out there today. Fans shouldn't be so angry when a team just gets out played. I'm not angry at getting out played. I'm angry at getting out coached...consistently. But, maybe the coaches are tired from the trip out west.
  10. I never recall a Leavitt team playing without passion. Maybe that was at the expense of discipline, but, there was always passion. I cringed when the announcers were talking about the up-down punishment for penalties. That is a perfect analogy of how this team is coached. The players are so afraid of making mistakes that they are not allowed to go out and play with emotion at all. On a short week after the trip we had, you're not going to win if you don't have more fire than your opponent.
  11. Do you think he would do well in Ga Tech's offense? I do... he IS a BCS qb, just not in our "system". I really do not mean to go back to Leavitt in every thread, but, look how he adapted between having Andre Hall (power running team) to the next year with Grothe (spread option). It didn't take 3 years, he analyzed what he had and went with the best system for his players.
  12. so you are telling me they haven't improved? No more than I would improve in 3 years of playing every day. Do you have a selvie story on this team? Someone who barely made a roster and became a force? Or a Jenkins that went from "toast" as a freshman to first rounder?
  13. And pork chop was being dancing bear, who's to say he's improved? He's just been given opportunities.
  14. Landi is tall enough to see over the middle...
  15. ...on a tablet, can't bold, but "good coach" is the point. Its not about Leavitt so much as it's about getting rid of a good coach and replacing him with this staff. A good coach could get more out of the talent on this team.
  16. He has a skill set, this coaching staff is trying to fit a square peg in a round hole with him. He's an option qb, not a pocket passer, but, they've been forcing it for 3 years.
  17. Lol, you're kidding right? Watch the auburn game, or FSU, or, pull up some stats... we used to be a top-30 defense year in and year out. Leavitt is in San Fran now coaching line backers, how's that group performing? Give credit where it is due.
  18. You know Ron Zook was fired after a winning season. ND has been through how many coaches after better seasons than we had last year? I will always support this team, but I am not going to pretend that I am happy with the display I saw tonight. I want this coach fired. Thus program is going nowhere with him at the helm.
  19. ********. Bench him or figure out an offense he can be good at. Oh wait, that would require actual coaching.
  20. We screwed the pooch when we allowed skippy to bring his c-usa coaching staff to the big leagues and pay them double what leavitt's staff got. I'm sick of watching this crap.
  21. First down, no gain... timeout... second down and hope for short gain... timeout... put the pressure on them for 3rd down... do they pass to try to pick up the first, or run to keep the clock moving. This coaching staff is a joke. Ha ha, we are ridiculous.
