Gillen Interviews With USF Skip directly to the full story. By BRETT MCMURPHY Published: Mar 18, 2007 TAMPA - Former Virginia coach Pete Gillen interviewed with University of South Florida athletic director Doug Woolard about the men's basketball position, while Woolard also requested permission to speak with UConn associate coach Tom Moore. Gillen, who was a radio analyst for Westwood One during the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament in Columbus, Ohio, met with Woolard, ESPN.com reported. Gillen, 59, has been pursuing the position since the firing of Robert McCullum. "I can't say anything, it wouldn't be fair to anyone," Gillen told Jerry Ratcliffe of the Charlottesville (Va.) Daily Progress Sunday. "I just can't talk about it." Gillen told Ratcliffe Thursday he would "listen" to any coaching offers. "You never say never," Gillen said. "I won't go back unless it's what I feel is a real good situation. If the right thing came up and I sensed there was support and that I could make a difference, I'd consider it. If I don't go back, it's OK. "I did it for 30 years. I didn't like the way it ended at Virginia [being fired after seven seasons]. You know me, whatever it is, coaching or radio, I give it 200 percent. I put my heart in it." In 20 seasons as a Division I head coach, Gillen's teams at Virginia (1998-2005), Providence (1994-98) and Xavier (1985-94) made nine NCAAs and seven NITs, but seven of those NCAA trips were at Xavier. Woolard requested permission to speak with Moore, the Hartford (Conn.) Courant reported. Moore has been an assistant at UConn since 1994 and was promoted to associate head coach in 2005. Before coming to UConn, he was 76-59 in five seasons at Division III Worcester State. He was unavailable for comment. http://www.tbo.com/sports/bulls/MGBIGRZEGZE.html
