  1. Look at it this way, with this kind of turnover Kelly is going to have to give Gregory a 2 year extension, so he can get "his guys" into the system lol.
  2. Here is #6. I guess he needed only 2 years to figure it out @chapelbull. Last player left turn out the lights please!
  3. No, I think my theory was pretty well stated - I think he is a terrible coach and potentially a poor people leader by allowing Collins to get too much control. I don't think anyone expected Collins or Brown back, but the other 2 are surprises. Castaneda is the one that is raising red flags. Throw in Anderson who says he wants to transfer somewhere that values 3 point shooters, and now you have 5 players who are choosing NOT to stay. And I think you could see as many as 3 other players make the decision to leave the program. Have to say I was ahead of the curve (again) on Gregory needing to get fired, I just didn't think it was the players who were going to be the ones to "fire" Gregory. I guess they are just being unrealistic and impatient as well.
  4. I think Gregory is now stained by this. Players considering coming here are going to have to take an extra look to see why, between 5-8, players would leave and the coach remains. Cincinnati is going through some of the same issues right now with 6 players entering the portal and their head coach is only in Year 1, and word is he might not see Year 2. I think the word is going to get out on Gregory soon enough.
  5. If Kelly doesn't fire him for the mass exodus then he is never going to fire him. When a player leaves you can chalk that up to many different things, but when 5+ players leave then that's directly on the coach. I still think Yetna goes back to France and Murphy and Durr are now also transfer portal candidates - everyone else is jumping off the sinking ship and those two have the most promising futures of all if they can catch on with the right programs. I knew Gregory was an awful coach, but I always thought the players played hard for him (mostly) and he had developed a good followership by getting guys to come here, but now I am wondering what the reason is to keep a terrible people leader and coach is, other then our A-SUN budget can't afford a $435k buyout. Effective leaders need to identify cancers and make swift, decisive moves. Waiting a year to address a cancer is why the football team hasn't won an FBS game in almost 2 years. Another house is on fire and Kelly is standing by watching.
  6. Yep, I don't expect Yetna back. Cannot wait to see what kind of roster Gregory puts together, and more importantly how he gets all of the new pieces to fit into a competent half court scheme. This may be his worst team since the Year 1 team finished 10-22.
  7. I'd rather there be a presser from Kelly, but imagine he will stand by for a year and watch Gregory burn the program down to the ground just like he did with CCS and the football program. I worked with someone once who took over a department and just let it fail miserably to the point where she could justify making any move. She burnt her department to the ground only to rebuild it in her own image. At this point that's all I have left to hope for is that is what Kelly is doing - let all of Harlan's hires completely flame out so he can rebuild it without any pushback.
  8. Hearing Castaneda will announce he is entering the portal as well, and he may not be the last one.
  9. Game with be televised on the new Costco+ streaming service
  10. Well, since its now been 6 days since our season ended and Gregory has not been fired, I am turning the page on that. Now I am just thinking through who we have coming back and how that plays, and what we may need to find in the portal: #1 - we need a facilitator - Castaneda could be the guy but we need Murphy to be that guy, however Gregory needs to ensure against that by bringing in a facilitator. Jamari Wheeler just landed into the portal yesterday and should be the top realistic target (from Florida, starting senior PG in the portal from Penn State with a near 2-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio); Antonio Daye from FIU could be a fall back option - he can facilitate and also score, but TO's are a huge area of opportunity #2 - we need guys with range - This should open up the floor and make teams pay for sagging on our bigs and the multitude of drives to the basket that we love; Anderson could have bee that guy but defensively he was a liability; Not alot of realistic options for USF as of now in the portal but Patrick Kelly, also from Penn State, could be a low-risk option here as he is from Bradenton/IMG and has range to spare, but the drawback was he didn't see much time on the court as a freshman and would worry about this being Anderson 2.0 #3 - we could use some front court depth - ist not a top priority but f we lose Yetna we will be tested here, but can run with Oduro here or look to add depth from the portal
  11. He didn't get many plays run for him but he could knock down that 15-18 footer and actually showed deeper range as the season went on. Would have liked to see him play more. He's kind of a 4 in a 2's body. For someone his size he could bang but couldn't create his own shot. He actually would have been someone you could run screen a roll with if he was a little bigger with his ability to knock those jumpers down.
  12. Lots of schools have players in the transfer portal so this isn't unique to us. Assuming we don't have anyone else transfer the 2 and 3 are positions he can likely promise lots of playing time, although would expect Chapin to get more time next season if he can solve his free throw issues. Assuming Yetna heads back to France, a starting 5 of Castaneda, Murphy (two PGs), Chaplin, Tchewa and Durr (Twin Towers) could cause some match up problems. If Yetna returns the front lines remains deep and we just need to replace the shooters.
  13. Thanks NEB. Just heard and now saw. The transfer portal is firing up! That's 4 guys that have transferred out by my count - Anderson, Collins, Brown and Williams. Although I don't think anyone was expecting Brown or Collins back. Need to hold onto to Durr and Murphy now.
  14. Williams was the team's best mid-range shooter, and arguably our only mid-range shooter. The offense just became less diversified.
  15. When we lost 7 of our last 9 conference games in Year 2 I railed on his half court offensive scheme late in games, but didn't want him fired. 2 years later and its just as big of an issue as it was then. Fix the half court offense late in games and he should stick around. I just think he is too stubborn to change.
  16. I agree. We are definitely under-seeded as an 8-seed but to win a National Championship you have to beat good teams, so might as well start early. If nothing else we are pretty fortunate to get a 12-11 Washington State team in the First Round, who somehow got an at-large bid despite getting blown out the second day of the PAC-12 tournament.
  17. No, thinking CWT should be let go during the middle of his 3rd year was way more nonsensical, considering what transpired later. I do think the majority of you are right that Kelly lets him work through the 5th year. That's Kelly's style - give you every opportunity to fail. The guy is patient, I will give him that. I'm just not sure how he sniffs .500 next year with what will be left of this roster. Maybe without Collins around, Gregory won't have that crutch to lean on late in games and it will force him to find new ways to get the team over the finish line. Maybe, as great as Collins was for Gregory early on in his tenure, he did become that crutch for Gregory to rely on even later when it was broken. That's about as hopeful as I can be under the circumstances.
  18. That's @puc86 who rails against guys after their first year. I think 4 years is a reasonable period of time to figure out who this guy is. All Year 5 is going to be is confirmation of what we have already seen.
  19. The counter argument is that he should get a 5th year because he has been at a disadvantage the last 2 years (Yetna and Covid), and when he had a full allotment of players and no adversity he was able to propel the team to a an also-ran tournament championship just 2 years after taking over for Antigua. I totally understand the counter argument, I just don't agree with it. I just don't want to see us waste another year like we did with Strong and it delays the next chapter another year. It feels like keeping Gregory is just delaying the inevitable.
  20. Lots of quality teams have already reached out, including 4 teams currently in the NCAAT. I am not expecting Yetna back either.
  21. You are correct - he has been the best coach for the other teams late in games, and had snatched defeat from the jaws of victory on several occasions. I'm not sure where this undying love for Gregory comes from, but I am open to being convinced otherwise. What is it that you see in a guy whose last 59 regular season games has gone 24-35, has only had 1 season in the last 10 with an OER in the top half of college basketball, hasn't had a winning conference record since Obama's first year in office and whose defensive DER over the last 3 years has gone from #19 to #51 to #233. The record doesn't justify the love some of you have for Gregory, and people I know who are in basketball know he is a really good guy but a flawed coach. My bigger concern is that with the one-time transfer rule due to the pandemic we could lose Murphy and Durr, and if Yetna is offered an LNB contract he is likely headed back to France. With Collins and Brown gone that leaves a team that won't sniff .500 in a conference that is getting stronger. Those that are defending Gregory are in the minority now.
  22. As was I. 21 blown second half leads has a pretty big impact on the 'ole won-loss record, and looks even worse when they are almost all lost the same way - going four corners and giving it to the same guy to go 1 on 3. Again, just the facts.
