  1. Or it could mean that the coaches have finally conceded the fact that C. Hill can provide just as much of a chance to win with his athleticism as PJ can with his 3 years of experience. Maybe the reps C. Hill has been getting the last 4 wks or so are starting to pay off. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Ultimately, it still depepnds on play-calling.
  2. Please, let this be true and get C. Hill some good series against a good team!!!
  3. I'm a 2nd year medical student that uses this board to procrastinate from studying 24 hrs a day!
  4. At most positions, if a freshman is good enough he can start. But there are two positions where talent alone as a freshman is usually not good enough and that is offensive line and Quarterback. Offensive lineman need a good year in a strength and conditioning program to gain the needed strength to be able to play at a D1 level. And a quarterback has so much to learn from the playbook, to formations, audibles, coverages, blitzes, and game management that it is often difficult for a freshman to start here either. If a freshman does start here it is usually do to a severe depth issue.
  5. As far as the QB commitments we are receiving, you must realize that these quarterbacks are mostly athletes, which means they will most likely to be switched to defensive back or wide receiver or something. In reference to our QB position next year, I would expect PJ to maybe start the first game, but then hopefully one of the other QBs will take over from there. It will be very hard for any coach to start a freshman or inexperienced sophomore over a SR QB with three years experience, unless one of the younger guys makes a big jump in the spring and summer. Personally ..... I'm praying for a big jump!
  6. What I would like to see, would be small raises for the defensive staff and a select few of the offensive coaches and then use the rest of the $100,000 plus this years $75,000 bowl bonus, to try and lure an OC.
  7. I think our defense has the ability to slow down the WVU offense, but this will require our offense to have some success moving the ball and sustaining some drives. If our offense can't do this, then even though our defense is good, it quickly will become tired from chasin WVU all over the field with their spread attack. As far as our offense vs. WVU, it will depend a lot on the play calling and QB play (unfortunately). WVU will be stacking the box just like UCONN, so we are gonna have to be creative in our play calling and execute our short and mid range passing game to be successful.
  8. To be the best, you have to play the best. By playing against the Miami's and Penn St's our players get a feel of what it's like to play major college football. And it's the best measuring stick for your program.
  9. Ponton will be good. The Largo kid will most likely red-shirt next year. The biggest offensive factor will be replacing Frank Davis, Chris Carothers, and John Miller. Replacing that many starting offensive linemen especially the center will not be easy.
  10. After looking at that list of the Top 100 in the state, I still think it is amazing to look at the amount of talent that is within an hour or two of USFevery year. If we could land 5 or 6 a year from our own back yard, we could make huge gains. Every weekend when you watch other BCS teams from outside the state they always seem to have 1 or 2 players from this area. Right now, I don't mind losing some recruits to the Big 3, but I hate losing them to the other BCS schools.
  11. Besides play calling, one of the most important jobs of the offensive coordinator/quaterbacks coach is to enhance the development of your quarterbacks and key players. Yes, Julmiste is not a talented quarterback, but my biggest reason for wanting a new OC, is that our quarterbacks have shown no significant improvement in the mental aspects of the game. Julmiste continues to make poor descisions, indecisiveness, and an inablilty to understand touch passes. These are all things that the OC should be developing and correcting. And after three years with Julmiste making the same mistakes and over a year with Denson, for our quarterbacks to be playing at the level they are, is a direct reflection of Coach Smith's inability to coach and develop his players.
  12. For those Bulls fans that are still interested in supporting the Bulls, this weekend should be an awesome one. We have the current Big East Champs, a Top 25 (possibly Top 10) ranked Team, Senior Night, a pseudo-Homecoming, a chance to go undefeated at home for the season, a HUGE recruiting weekend, a good crowd, national exposure with a win, and a chance to gain some momentum going into our Bowl game. As if being a Bull wasn't good enough, we have all of this to root for this weekend! GO BULLS!!
  13. Most likely Julmiste will start but I hope to see C Hill at least 2 to 4 series and hopefully throw the ball as well. This would be a perfect opportunity for him by facing a Top 25 defense. Plus, any mistakes, and there will definitely be some, can be worked on with the extra month of practice before the bowl game. Then, as long as C Hill works hard enough, he may be able to play more in the bowl game.
  14. Whether you like CJL or not (I do), USF can't afford to bring in Butch Davis or any big name coach. They also can't afford to bring in a big time assistant coach. The best we can do is to get rid of Rod Smith and either promote coach Franks or hire an OC that is either up and coming or is simply willing to take a cut in pay for the opportunity to coach here.
  15. I have been nice and not said anything negative regarding Coach Smith and / or Julmiste all year, but after today's game, I have seen nothing but what I believe to be the worst I-A quarterback and Offensive coordinator. Now, yes, the OL did get beat up today, but the play calling all year and the quarterback play have both been horrible. The inexcusables are the poor decisions that Julmiste makes and has been making for 3 years. With that said, both should be replace in the offseason or else Bull Country could have some serious problems.
  16. I was one of those Bulls that played against UCONN in Hartford in 2000. It was also in the 40's that day and very windy. It really didn't effect us on the field, it was more of a nuisance for us when we were on the sideline. I really don't see it being a problem. Plus, like was posted earlier, both teams are gonna play in the same weather, so it really won't be that big of a factor.
  17. Offensively, things could be better next year than this year, I believe the QB position will be much improved next year. Either Julmiste will have to make a big improvement or he will be quickly out played by the young talent and transfers we have. The loss of Hall will hurt, but could end up being a good thing in a weird way. Because we won't have one of the best running backs in the country, we will have to become more balanced offensively which could eventually lead to more success. The biggest question marks will be interior offensive line. It is always difficult to replace your center. Defensively, LBs and DBs will only continue to get bigger faster, stronger, and more confident. The loss of the defensive lineman could be big, but I believe the younger guys will step in nicely, provided they show the work ethic that the older guys have. Special Teams, should only improve, although punter is a little weary just because he'll be a true freshman. Coaching, the only real improvement needed is at Offensive coordinator. But as long as Leavitt is at the controls the BULLS will be in good hands. As far as the more distant future, with the entry into the Big East and the success we have, and will continue to have, it's going to have a major impact on our recruiting. Every year should be better than the previous year for at least the next 5 years or so.
  18. I like the play breakdown with the exception of first down. I would like to see a 1st down pass about a third of the time, especially if the opposing team is putting 8 and 9 in the box.
  19. Also as important as ranked teams, is how does a conference perform against the other conferences and unfortunately this is where a lot of the BE criticism has come this year. WV lost to VaTech, USF to PennSt and Miami, Pittsburg to ND, Nebraska, and Ohio, etc... This is where the BE must improve starting with the Bowl Season. If the BE can manage to win some bowl games and some out of conference games next year, then they will start to earn more respect.
  20. Coach Leavitt never has nor will he ever "run up the score" on somebody. Any time we have gone ahead "comfortably", coach has always throttled down and just ran the ball more. Those games in which it did appear that we ran it up, was simply because the other team couldn't stop our run game or the coaches felt we were still in a vunerable position.
  21. They'll definitely need something to get the students out there, but I would like to see a big push to get the community out there as well. I want a big crowd for Cincy, but we need a huge crowd for WVU if it ends up being for the BE Championship. Why couldn't they do something like offer a discounted or half price single game admission to any fans wearing USF clothes or something? That way you attract people with cheaper tickets and you fill the stands with Green and Gold. I don't know, just a thought.
  22. The exposure of a weekday game is nice, but the short week of preparation sucks from a player and coaches point of view. Plus it gets the players out of their usual gameday rituals, which may not seem like much, but is really annoying.
  23. How do you think this game effected recruiting efforts? On one hand, we looked bad, at least offensively, and lost by 20 points. On the other hand, we played a good Top 10 team in the Orange Bowl committed 5 turnovers and still only lost by 20. Do you think recruits will look at this game as if USF only needs 1 or 2 more playmakers to go bigtime? Do you think this showing made recruits feels as if USF still has a little ways to go? Or was it pretty much what people expected so it really won't help or hurt recruiting?
