I'm an '02 Alum and just purchased my season tickets at the Spring Game. In all our core group consists of 10-15 people, only 3 of which are alumni, but we are all now season ticket holders. Now, I'm not a Bucs fan so someone may be able to help me out with this, but do we do anything to try and gain leverage with their fan base? Are there announcements at Bucs games about upcoming Bulls games? Couldn't we try and consider a flyer or something that goes out to Bucs season ticket holders regarding Bulls tickets? Even more, couldn't we have something sent out to the "100,000" people on the waiting list for Bucs season tickets? I buy the UF, FSU, Miami argument, but only to an extent. Going back to our core group, we have 2 Notre Dame fans, a Michigan fan, a Georgia fan, and a couple of FORMER FSU fans, yet they never have a problem making out to our home games and they are as passionate about USF as any other fans I have been around. What I do know is I've been in this area long enough to know a team won't be fully supported until it starts winning (see Bucs and Lightning, and on the flip-side the Rays). Anyone who remembers back to the Bucs after 1979 and before 1997, the majority of the time they played in a half empty stadium, and half of the people who were there were rooting for the other team. That didn't change until they started winning. After making the playoffs in 1996, the Lightning were lucky if they were drawing 8,000-10,000 people a game and that was in a brand new arena. When did that all change again.....when they started winning. Even with this though, we must find a way to tap into the casual fan and make them a fanatic. Look at the buzz that was in the air before the UConn game just because of the POSSIBILITY of a BE Championship showdown with WVU. Everyone knows we crapped the bed against UConn and rendered the WVU game virtually meaningless, but the casual fan got excited. Thats what we need. For a place that calls itself a "football town", there has got to be more we can do to get people hooked. I think there have been steps taken in the right direction, now we just need to keep them heading that way.
