Agree to disagree.  The tension was high (after the rub w/Harlan about the Ybor City issue). We were 1-3, and looking like garbage on offense.  Rumors of his termination were peaking.  I don't think it was coincidence that Taggart cut them all lose at that time.  A loss to Cuse would likely have resulted in his termination.

But, none of that matters.  Taggart has parlayed it all into a $30MM contract at his dream school.

    It was all **** Tomey.

He's absolutely on the list of coaches UF is kicking around. What do you define as the the short list? Top 3? Top 5? Top 10? It's pretty much Frost, Mullen, maaaaybe Chip Kelly, Matt Campbell, CCS, and then it's a crapshoot pulling up names of young coordinators from anywhere you can think of.

I believe Florida is angling for Kelly. Strong is probably on some list as he's well respected up there. I can't see them signing him though.

I'm hearing from a couple of my friends who work in athletics that it's clear Coach Strong doesn't like being here.  He sees it as a temporary position as he moves on to a "real" coaching job.

In hindsight, it seems pretty evident with his comments earlier this year about fan support, but it's has become really apparent over the last couple games.  He's not made it a secret to other coaching staff and now some of the team knows.

Hopefully they are wrong, but this isn't a good look.

Nah, I've heard similar. I think the athletic department has made a push to cure those issues.

My understanding is a lot of what they told him he would have and or get, wasn't readily available or planned. It was a lot of the same stuff Taggart had issues about.

That was a big reason for the recent football facility announcement.

You're missing the point. It's all about the "relevancy", not the football. Too many "fans", obviously a lot of ours included, are letting the NCAA and sports media decide what they should or shouldn't care about rather than just embracing their college football team ...

It has been that way well before people had TV sets in their house. It didn't bother our fan base when we were part of that group and if we're ever fortunate to get back it won't bother them then.

If you put two top FCS teams in Tennessee and Florida jerseys and in a packed stadium and had them play each other, a casual observer would probably not be able to tell the difference in the product on the field and would buy that this was a top flight match up. You are correct, it's ALL about perception ...

Current teams, absolutely. In fact, I'll take the G5 school against FL

The realization of this whole thing is really starting to turn me off from college football completely. If my team doesn't have a chance, what's the point? Might as well be FCS so at least we can win a title there.

I also wonder how much athletes are aware of this, and how much it kills/drives their motivation. We've already seen coaches repeatedly leave for better schools, how long before the players start to give up?

Because a team in our position was in a better place in 1977, 1987, 1997, and 2007...

but alas NOW it's unfair and you don't want to watch? How bout we (or any G5 team if that's where you want to go) run the table and get pinched before taking any I'm not watching P5 stance.

Marketing needs to go on all out blitz to get people in their seats at 7pm.  On the ticket front, just give away tickets or charge $1 for this game only.  Email donors, season ticket holders and others with tickets a few times about our great seniors and to please be in your seats at 7pm to honor them.  If they want to get really creative, offer some incentive for people to wrap up their tailgates early, maybe one free beer/drink coupon per season ticket holder seat that can only be redeemed from when the gates open to 6:55.  Get a sponsor that would pay the Bucs/TSA the cost of whatever is redeemed.  Also, go through the tailgate areas with a loudspeaker truck reminding people it's senior night.  It's going to be a **** shame if the usual 1,500 people are in their seats at 7pm.

We've discussed this a thousand times over the years with input from former staffers.

You cant drop your pants to get butts in seats. You give the product away, people won't be as willing to buy it in the future

  8. First thing, absolutely not.

In 1997 there was limited television. Teams actually got less respect than they get today. In 1995 Toldeo went 11-0-1 and finished 25th in the country. 1999 undefeated Marshall finished 10th after pretty much everyone in the top 15 has 2-3 losses. In both those situations they played in minor bowl games and moved on.

    That's changed a lot.

We're out and behind 2 loss teams for two reasons. (1) we haven't beaten a team with a pulse and (2) we lost to the only team with a pulse.

Win out and we're going to the Peach Bowl to play a pretty good football team. Something that wouldn't have happened in 1997.

The power schools have always had the advantage.

Except I assume Eugene is a much better place to live with your family than Gainesville.  Money being near equal there’s no comparison.

Based on? Pressure? They just ran out a coach that went to a National Championship game in 2014.

The biggest issue in Oregon is you can't drive 10 miles and find 5 guys that could start in D-I football.

Nike has evened that playing field some facilities, unique uniforms, promotion, but Oregon was bad for decades because there isn't a talent base around the school.
