Hopefully he never get's that chance again
Present one link, based on hearsay, ignore the one where Schiano and Todd Bradley both state it's not true.
Sorry, I'm not going to just assume he knew and let this go because a guy who really knew and let it go (McQueary) says so.

He continued that disdain when he was Bucs coach. He was no longer a rival then. He showed he wasn't a community guy.
A community guy? Again this goes back to giving a **** about the Bucs and vice versa. It looks like Tony Dungey was a pretty good community guy when he recommended our coach to Oregon.

What about his open disdain for USF?
He was at a rival school at one point. If he is really all that opposed to the school he won't accept the job
-
I could give a **** about his history with the Bucs. I don't care about the Bucs, and by looks of attendance the last 7-8 years neither do a lot of people in TB.
If we cant lock down Strong, Schiano would be my #2.

I'd take Schiano, look at what Rutgers was before him and is without him.

Whether people like it or not, the playoff is the most fair system college football has ever had.

The second I heard Taggart was going, I figured we'd hire Strong, and I like it a lot

he had the 95th rated defense this year. 106th last year
He was literally starting 9 sophomores on defense this year in a conference where defense has been horrific for a decade. But it doesn't matter I guess. Guy who coached two national championship defenses and went to a BCS bowl with Louisville (even if he "cheated")

But they actually played teams. Check out who we are playing next year. Going to be hard to sell that one!
Oh, I agree. Even at 13-0, we aren't making the playoff

One-loss Big 10 Champ Penn State didn't get in the CFP; you really have to be sipping the koolaid to think we'll get in. That's not really the point, though. Just being in the conversation would gain us notoriety, both in terms of attracting coaches and recruiting players.
I'm with you that this could potentially be the best thing for us; it's not out of the realm of possibility.
They lost 2 games

Mack Brown went 8-5 his last year. 7-2 in the big 12
He had 1 losing season in 16 years.
Strong had 3 losing seasons in 3 years.
We can go back and forth on this, but the majority of the experts agree that Mack Brown left the program in rough shape. In fact there were what? 5-6 coaches who said no to the job before Strong took it? Strong then spent the first year dropping all the crap, and then the next two year rebuilding it.
Was this year bad? Absolutely, but the guy is a good coach and would be a good hire. You can't ignore what he did at UL.

year 3 lost to Kansas among others. that's why he was fired.
Starting a freshman QB and dozen other freshmen and sophomores to replace the crap Mack Brown left at Texas.

We'all be lucky to have 3k there

Strong had everything at Texas and failed miserably.
No he didn't. I'm fact the general consensus of the experts is that he has nothing as Mack Brown ran the program into the ground, and that's why he had issues.
He was fired because of Herman. No Herman and hes still there

No shot at Fleck if you believe reports.

I can't fault him, but....
It is very possibly just me, but College Football is slowly dying to me. The inequalities of the haves vs. have-nots is quickly taking all of the joy out of the sport for me. In the space of a week, the AAC has now lost ALL THREE of its top coaches. I'm slowly concluding that it's basically impossible for any of the G5 schools to get into "big time" football because no one else wants any more "P5-level" schools. Not the media companies, not the other schools, and not the other fans. Basically, the only people who want G5 schools to move "up" are those very G5 schools and they have no actual power to make it happen.
So the G5 schools are now stuck in a system where they will be continually poached for coaching talent... over and over and over again. This will ensure that the P5 schools keep getting an influx of good young coaches, and it will ensure that the top-level G5 schools will stay there in the G5.
It's been that way since day 1. You think this would have been different in the 60s, 70s, 80s, or 90s?

It's all by design. ESPN/Media and the P5's colluded to ensure this. It's a "stacked deck" which in turn goes against the grain of what sports should be about....It is all based on greed to ensure their success. Pathetic. There are negative parallels relating to season tickets, trying to grow the fan base and overall excitement in the area. Programs with a history of success will bounce back pretty quickly relating to these areas but the USF brand is fragile and it will be interesting to see how momentum is affected.
This is silly. Oregon is a big time job. Some of the best facilities. One of the richest boosters. A full stadium. Two NC appearances in the last 6 years.
Its not like he left for Baylor or Purdue.
Big time programs rob from other P5 schools all the time. Nebraska grabbed Riley from Oregon State last year. Franklin from Vandy to Penn state. Wisconsin grabbed Chryst from Pitt. Les Miles went to LSU from Oklahoma State. And of course Saban from Michigan state to LSU.
Again, he left for a job that is really tough to say no to. No sense in an end of the world approach to it.

True, but how coaching jobs would be considered an upgrade from Oregon? How many from USF? Odds are a good coach will probably not be here more than 3-4 years. Hopefully we can find somebody like Leavitt, who loved the program, and the area enough to want to be here long-term. Crazy to think that he turned down Alabama to stay. Was hoping it would be the same with Taggart.
Leavitt turned down an Alabama that was about to get hammered by the NCAA for the second time in a decade and it was widely known. Everyone turned that gig down and they eventually hired Mike Shula.

Congrats to CWT. Landed one of the better gigs in CFB. Sucks for us though. This is going to happen every time we get a decent coach. Reality of being in the minor leagues.
Nah. It's been that way forever, even at good schools. Saban jumped from Michigan State Ron LSU. Riley from Oregon State to Nebraska. George O'Leary from GT to ND to unemployment.

Where is PJ Fleck in all of this talk? I haven't heard his name recently. If Willie does go, I guess he'll be a candidate here along with Strong and Kiffin.
Fleck said no to Cincy. And rumors suggest Baylor got the same sort of response.
Still not convinced Taggart is running, although it has legs.

I've heard from someone that nothing is imminent. Relax everyone...until it's officially time to panic
-
It's hard to get bowls to commit when you're selling them the total package. The Belk Bowl or Music City bowl wants nothing to do with a game that could land them many of the AAC teams when they have the SEC, ACC, or Big 10 signed up
-
Realistically, it could be tough.
Just think back 8ish years ago, only a few of our games made TV. Now we have this culture of connectivity and it's. It just with every game on TV, but in our pockets.
College (and Pro) football attendance is down across the country. The difference is what numbers of fans for Florida and FSU that have stopped showing rings a lot harder on us.
Attendance will go up, but only a handful of ways.
I want Charlie Strong!!!!!

Strong's two main classes at Texas were top 10...along with some great classes at UL...
He was also recognized as one of the top recruiters in the country when he was with UF.
