I have nothing to base this on, but I'm thinking that if it's only two, there's a good chance that it could be us and UCF.  All the other candidates have opposition from within the conference for a variety of reasons (BYU, the Sunday thing and the LGTB thing; Houston, already in Texas; Cincinnati, apparently WVU recruits in Ohio and doesn't want the competition).  Us and UCF are the only teams that bring a new fertile recruiting ground and large TV markets.

I could be totally wrong though.

I wish I could agree. I think the consensus is Florida's only shot is expansion by 4.

The recruiting thing is so vastly over played and overrated.

The big schools that would really even care about the recruiting angle in the Big 12 are built on the plentiful Texas based recruits. Highly doubtful that they'll see recruiting Florida, which is already competitive as a valuable source of recruiting funds.

likewise, under this theory ACC/PAC/Big 10 expansion would have hit up places like Texas or Florida instead of Kentucky, New Jersey, or Colorado

The University of Florida hasn't played a regular season non-conference road game outside the state since 1992. They have ZERO interest in scheduling any quality non-conference opponent other than the required FSU game.

They're playing Michigan in Dallas to open next year. I know because I'm going with my dad and brother.

My guess is fans outside of the conference or state really have no clue yet about USF's rise and UCF's debacle.

If we start rolling throughout the season like we did last year we will be the sexy choice. Unless you are a big college football fan most people have zero clue about any school outside of their own conference. Unless they follow closely, the majority don't even know much about any team besides their own.

The problem is, the decision will likely be made before kickoff.

I don't think either Florida team makes the cut though

  4. I think the issue in all this is the media over values the idea of markets.

Say the Big 12 decides to start a network...is there enough demand in Tampa, Orlando, Cincy, Or wherever to push providers to include it on the regular platforms and not on some premium add-on?

Most of the teams they're playing with are far from the most popular teams in their market. In fact in our market, we're probably third. Same goes for Orlando, Houston.

Part of me still believes that the Big 12 might be angling for two current G5 schools for the time being and then angle towards stealing a couple Pac12 schools to shore everything up in the future.

I don't think either Florida school is near "slam dunk" status...in fact if I were a betting man, I would put money on Florida being on the outside whenever they decide expansion.

The fact that two Texas schools have backed Houston suggests that this is about potential strength of programs. I think they know who they're taking.

It will be 2 for now. Houston and Cincy. That's my bet.

Clearly you never considered that perhaps those listed on the watch lists might consider it an honor to be named.  And 300 people on them?  Hyperbole much?  Here's the 2016 list.  There's 45 names on there.  45 players out of more than 120 teams in FBS.  It's literally nothing like the Who's Who ****.

Tight ends alone. There aren't too many teams even using them anymore.

I think the kid will be great, but Elkanah Dillon barely had 200 yard receiving.

Fair enough but why would Memphis be talking up their $500 million investment and the Fed Ex deal if they were in a good position?  In my opinion, to a certain extent, the schools doing that are in weaker positions (or perceive they are).

If you follow that logic to the other end of the spectrum, the teams that are in a better position may not feel it is as necessary to make a lot of noise. We know there are an array of schools that are attempting to get into the Big 12.  I just think their behaviors may be revealing.

All conversations pulled from a public records request to WVU's president.

I I don't think anyone has gone public.
