  1. Schools like UCF and USF are funding their programs in hopes of getting into a P5 (or P4 if it comes to that) in which the investment will have been worth it. If either program fails to get called up to the big boy leagues in the next round of realignment then there will be some serious re-thinking of the athletic programs. The good thing that both programs have going for it are large enrollment so they can spread the wealth.
  2. True, but we are already in the P5 situation with a much lessor group of teams.
  3. Interesting. Not a horrible outcome if it were true, but not the best either. I would have to think in some ways it would be superior to having to go to Texas every other game.
  4. I generally don't do twitter, but this popped up in my news feed.
  5. So this guy is out there spouting off but probably another Tuxedo Yoda... Twitter about Expansion
  6. Probably the same might be said for either team, but there can be no denying that the combo if the two would allow for a big influence in the Florida market.
  7. Well technically we both have the same number of wins....this year....
  8. He was touted as UL's next great QB until Teddy Bridgewater committed and enrolled early. That is when the pressure really hit him. Smith came from one of the poorest and most violent neighborhoods in Louisville. I doubt he had much in the way of proper guidance about academics or the importance of a college diploma. I hope he can get a degree from N. Texas and make it out of the trap.
  9. It was a combination of both. He was having trouble getting through the NCAA clearinghouse after he signed. Then there was an indication that he wanted to go back to UL because of pressure he was getting at home. GOL said he would not release him to go back to UL. In the end it did not matter because he was declared ineligible by the NCAA. He ended up the next year at WKU. Failed out there, went to community college then signed on at N. Texas where I think he is currently second string. His whole story is a sad testament to how crazy and problematic the recruiting process is. Here is a kid that was under a lot of pressure about where he was going to play football when he should have been pressured to hit the books.
  10. From what I understand not a single player involved in any of the alleged violations ever played a down for UCF. The big one was a 4 star QB Demarcus Smith who was committed to UL. He never even got on campus.
  11. Kelly was an amazing recruiter of South Florida for UCF. He was one of these guys that the Miami players saw as a father figure. He was there under Tribble as AD. Tribble was a complete douchebag. He was hired for his connections with the Orange Bowl and Big East. While Kelly may or may not have been completely truthful with the NCAA, I think he was probably lead astray by Tribble. UCF had been on probation for self reported texting of recruits by coaches that had left before I think Kelly was hired. Most of the NCAA violations were related to men's basketball and were direct violations by Tribble himself. My guess is that Kelly followed Tribble down the wrong path and was swept up with the whirlwind. I do know that UCF fans were very upset to see him go and he is still seen as a good guy by many. I would love to have seen him back at UCF
  12. He was smoking what we all were smoking back then. The wrong stuff.
  13. You seem like someone who has to have the last word so now you have it.
  14. I think some of you are just being oversensitive because I am a UCF fan. I was a fan on this board at that time. Obviously the guy who made the statement I reacted to was not. Maybe I could have worded it better so it did not sound like an attack as it was not meant to be, but it was how it all went down.
  15. Look this was not meant to be an argument but a response to a claim that UCF was "not even on the Big East's radar" which is just an incorrect statement. UCF was on the Big East's radar as early as 1996 when Daunte was there. There were various articles and the like linking UCF to a potential football only membership. for example here is an OS article from 1997 discussing it. UCF catches Big East's Eye. There was an on again off again dance going on for years. In early 2003 when the realignment really heated up UCF reported through unofficial channels that they were going to be offered a football only membership. The edge in football at the time was for UCF, but word was the basketball programs did not want UCF because basketball was (even more than now) really behind. There were discussions on this board (where some UCF fans would eventually eat crow) and a quick search finds a few that touch on it UCF and USF football only, but mostly they were on a board known then as the "UCF vs. USF" Board. Later that board was renamed the "state of Florida Sports" board but I did not see where it went back to 2003. You can choose to believe or not I don't care. USF ultimately got the nod and that is what really matters. But it was not as clear cut as some would now make out to be.
  16. Well if you were not so sensitive then it would not be an issue. Just because I am a UCF fan you don't have to take everything as an attack. You can believe it or not. I really don't care. I have been around this board and what I believe was a predecessor for a long time. I don't talk much, but I have something to add or ask from time to time. But it is history and sorry you are too young to have known it and I have nothing to prove to you. Take it for what it is worth.
  17. If you had been around at that time you would know what I say is accurate. You could look back at the discussions here on this message board and find it. This was just a response to someone saying that UCF was not even on the Big East's radar which was just not accurate. The whole scene was different at that point. This was well before either program had accomplished anything. USF selling point to tip the balance was its basketball program. Remember that the Big East was controlled by the basketball schools at that point. UCF's program was still playing in a gymnasium.
  18. Same story, different day. I am sure there have been lots of conversations with Judy, Hitt and every other potential candidate and they are all offering the same thing,
  19. I am sure if you care to search the archives it will confirm my statement.
  20. Actually as a history lesson originally the Big East was going to offer UCF a football only membership. But as Boston College bailed the basketball schools wanted a school with a better basketball program which USF had. so at that point UCF actually was on the radar for football. If you were to go back in time on this message board you will probably find messages from UCF fans boasting of the football only membership to the Big East. That eventually soured on us as USF got the invite. I am pretty sure that the B12 is not going to look to Florida for additions. If they do it will be for #13 an #14. It makes no sense for just one of the schools to be added. It creates an island, and I don't think Disney or Universal or the beach will have anything to do with it either. It will come down to TV markets and how much of those markets the programs can deliver.
  21. dems conquistadors not knights... Spanish knights The name 'The Conquistadors" must have been a problem in that most students could not spell Conquistador. I imagine it would be somewhat polically incorrect in todays world.
  22. Yeah, it's a nice little stadium. I absolutely loved the owl noises they pump out of the PA. It's hilarious I may be risking a lot of angry posts here, but count me among those who think that all mascots are kind of goofy. Might as well make it fun and embrace the goofiness with owl sounds. At least we have Owls native to Florida. Never seen a Knight that was native. We were supposed to be the Citronaughts.. And there areSchenllenburger Articles as well as Pellni articles that state theat they were trying to emluate Miami's football program as well
  23. Bulls 31-10. While it would be a big win for the, ask any FAU fan and they will tell you they emulated Miami's program. Not USF.
