  1. In my opinion Pittsburgh is our biggest rival. West Virginia is a close second due to a large amount of ill-tempered message board posters, but they have a ton of fans so that is to be expected. From what I understand UL helped us get into CUSA, join Big East and sealed our first bowl bid. Hard to hate a program that gives so much and takes so little. 8)
  2. The Denson decision was based on practice production alone. Hopefully, we will not make that mistake again. I don't believe giving Hill his first QB start ever in the biggest game in USF history over a redshirt junior would be a wise decision. My guess is- both of them will start. 8)
  3. It takes time. Most of these recruits dreamed of playing for FSU, UF or Miami. They have won national championships, play in front of bigger crowds and have sent an enormous amount of players to the NFL. Also, don't forget that their coaches and parents are swaying these recruits. They have been watching and dreaming of sending kids to UM, FSU and UF. I do believe USF is the better option for many of them, but it is not an easy sell. It will be VERY interesting to see how well we recruit this year. I just hope that each recruiting class is a little bit better than the last. 8)
  4. They are going to pay him as much as they can...blah...He is a great coach..blah...He started in trailers...blah... They are raising as much as they can..blah...blah...new baseball facilities...blah... It would mean over 10 million...blah...Its great to be in the BE...blah...we have come a long way...blah If you do not want to stay up late tonight, I can answer any other questions you might ask DW. Now for the interesting question: "Do you believe the BE coaches, who have a vote in the Coaches Poll, are stabbing USF in the back by not giving us a vote?" I doubt he would answer that question, but I would like to see the smirk on his face or watch him squirm. True, but it irritates me that the coach of the 18th ranked team in the country, who we destroyed, does not have enough respect for us to give us one single vote. Keep in mind UCF, who we also destroyed, has four votes.  Does anyone know how many CDOA coaches have a vote in the poll...I am guessing four. 8)
  5. The bottom line is- USF will offer him as much as they possibly can.  Hopefully, it is enough.  If we cannot retain Leavitt, I would be surprised if we have another chance at a BCS bowl this late in the season over the next 10 years. With what?  Did you win the Powerball?  Why don't we just move back down to I-AA and stop offering scholarships for athletics?  USF football is the best vehicle for us to spread our name around the nation.  We are trying to make the transition from a tier-3 commuter school to a tier-1 research university.  When FSU won the national championship, they saw an enormous increase in their on-line applications overnight!  A chemistry experiment is never going to give us the exposure a BCS or a national championship game will give us.  We will NEVER make a name for ourselves on academics alone.  Until we break the "commuter-school" perception, we will never be considered a serious academic institution.  I am not saying we should sell one of our engineering buildings, but we must evolve into a traditional university.  My experience has been that most alumni donate back to their respective universities because they had some of the best experiences of their life as an undergrad.  We need to emulate universities like Cal and even UF.  We will never become Brown or MIT, but we can become one of the best public institutions in the country.  In order to accomplish that goal, we must minimize the number of undergrads that park at the Sun Dome, go to class and then go home as fast as they can and replace them with undergrads who take part in extra-circular activities such as intramural games and attending USF football games.  We have to give our alumni a source of pride before they will donate back to USF.  We need to improve our athletics and academics at the same time.  In the State of Florida, football is everything.  I cannot imagine the USF alumni that would come out of the woodwork if we beat UF or won a BCS game.  I know we generate more research dollars than FSU, but by beating them on the gridiron, we would send a Psychological message to the entire State that we are better than FSU.  8)
  6. I know they used to have call-ins. If they do still have call-ins, would someone please ask DW: "Do you believe the BE coaches, who have a vote in the Coaches Poll, are stabbing USF in the back by not giving us a vote?" 8)
  7. I would not classify USF's schedule as "weak". It is certainly not the toughest, but I would consider it one of the top-50 most difficult.
  8. Here is the only thing I have seen on the internet so far about the new criteria: "The reviews will take the previous four seasons (2004-07) into account, looking at criteria such as where the highest-ranked team in each conference finished. " From:  http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=2225189 In my opinion, the BCS is moving towards more inclusion rather than exclusion if for no other reason than to avoid lawsuits.  I believe UL, USF and UWV need to win out and the USF/UWV game does not matter, but what does matter is that one of us wins the BCS game.  We also need the other BE teams to win their respective bowls.  If we can do that, the conference will be on the right track to keeping thier BCS bid.  What we really need is for some team to compete for the national championship next year.  8)
  9. I have been told that the BCS has changed or is going to change the rule so that they will look at the overall strength of the entire conference instead of a top-12 ranking over four years.  If that is the case, the BE will be fine with three top-25 teams. 8)
  10. Chris Leak started nine game as a TRUE freshman. If Grothe can't beat out PJ next year, we are in trouble. 8)
  11. Two DBs can't cover 4 or 5 WRs. Throw the ball against one of the other DBs. I was under the impression you had a lot of injuries in the secondary. 8)
  12. Miami has been an underachieving team for the last year and a half. UL has about 6 stars on their team. Miami has about 60. They have two weaknesses: 1) QB, due to inexperience. He is one of the most talented QBs in the country. 2) DBs due to injury. From an article I read in the Sun-Sentinel, they have had numerous injuries to their secondary. We should line up in the spread and find the mismatches. PJ needs to know who is good and who is good, but young. Short passes and I can see a lot of YAC and not a lot of pressure on PJ. 8)
  13. The three biggest keys to the game are: 1) PJ must play the best game of his career. 2) Win the turnover battle. 3) Prevent big plays by miami (25+ yards). If we can accomplish those three goals, we should be close into the fourth quarter where anything can happen. We have nothing to lose, Miami on the other hand... 8)
  14. Good, we need the 2-1s and it takes a long time to build a rivalry. I agree, we will have to get much better for it to become a possibility. 8)
  15. Miami would be the dream rivalry. If we cannot get Miami, we should sign 2-1s with FIU until they are strong enough to play us 1-1s. 8)
  16. I don't believe the crowd will have any effect on Louisville's offense, but over the years it has had a huge effect on our defense. They seem to come off the ball faster, tire slower and remain more focused. 8)
  17. He may be back for the Miami game: http://bulls.tbo.com/bulls/MGB6NHVUQDE.html I believe he should strongly consider redshirting. He could be a beast in 2008. 8)
  18. I believe FIU is building their program the right way. I live in South Florida and in my opinion FIU has much more potential than FAU and even UCF. They appear to have a large fan base just waiting to be tapped. My only concern is their head coach. If he cannot get it done, they should try to get Florida's DC (Charlie Strong I believe). I hope we continue to sign 2-1s with FIU until they are strong enough to sign 1-1s. If we cannot get a long-term series with Miami, my hope is, we create a rivalry with FIU. If FIU continues to improve, I don't believe it will have much of an effect on our recruiting. We should still be able to cherry pick the Dade/Broward/Palm Beach areas like we do now. UCF is too close for comfort. 8)
  19. We lost. I don't think it would be a good idea for him to turn pro after this year. He could be a 1st round pick after 2006. 8)
  20. After watching UCF and USF's first game, what is your honest prediciton for September 17th?  Keep in mind, UCF has 16 days to prepare. My guess: USF: 24 UCF: 20 8)
  21. In a couple of years, we are going to be stacked at WR. In 2007, we will have seniors- Peyton and Chambers juniors- Cedric Hill, Carlton Hill, Hester. Not to mention a few others and we should have a redshirt sophmore QB who was Mr. Florida football runner up. 8)
