  1. Denson is only a sophomore and just started his first game ever in front of 100,000 fans against possibly the best defense in the Big 10. He has been practicing our offense for about three months. I am not ready to throw in the towel on him just yet. My guess is, Denson made more plays in practice and his athleticism was too enticing for Leavitt to bench him. In hindsight, JL should have gone with Julmiste who has more experience and composure. To me, Julmiste looked light years ahead of last year. I feel much better about this season after yesterday. I hope PJ gets the majority of the reps with the first team over the next two weeks and plays well against FAMU and UCF. I would also like to see Denson come in to run plays similar to the ones Brian Fisher ran. JP was not incredibly accurate against PSU, but he looked much better than last year. I believe he was throwing away at least one of his passes that went into the dirt. There were blue shirts all over the intended receiver. Redshirting Grothe is the right decision and I can't wait to watch his development over the next five years. Carlton Hill did get some experience yesterday, playing the position he will probably end up at- WR. It does not matter who plays QB if the WRs don't catch the ball. Peyton should be starting even if he half-asses it during practice. I am going to wait until after the UCF game to crucify anyone. 8)
  2. First, this game was scheduled years ago. If we were still in C-USA, we would need at least one name program on the schedule to sell recruits, balance our budget and get the possibility of media exposure from an upset. Second, if a I-AA team meets minimum scholarship requirements (65 full, I believe) then they can count towards bowl eligibility. There is also a stipulation that you can only use a I-AA win once every three or four years. If we win 5 I-A games and beat FAMU, then we will be bowl eligible again. Finally, there is a philosophy, which Florida State used to gain national prominence- play anyone, anywhere, anytime. Fresno State has used the same philosophy to make a name for themselves. UCF tried the same thing, but with different results. I would be very surprised and disappointed if USF ever signs a "money game" ever again. We are in the process of transitioning from a mid-major to a BCS program and we play an uneven conference schedule. Our new AD has done a great job with football scheduling so far. He has signed Miami for a probable 1-1 and North Carolina for a definite 1-1. He also signed a I-A team (FIU) for a 2-1 in our favor. Our scheduling is going to be awkward the next few years, but we have to make the most of our situation and we are doing exactly that. 8)
  3. Were you guys able to see the game? 8)

  6. Does anyone know if the game will be broadcast anywhere else in Florida? Will the game be on in Miami? I remember JL saying he did not care so much about the national TV games, but he wanted all games to be broadcast in Florida for recruiting purposes. 8)
  7. What position do you think USF needs to target the most this year? I believe USF needs to land some quality DL (preferably DTs) desperately. I would also like to see some solid OL sign as well. In my opinion, it is more difficult for a university with less tradition to recruit lineman. If we can manage a respectable season (at least 5 wins), a couple of four-star lineman along with a few three stars is not out of the question. 8)
  8. If Jenkins would have played badly in his first two games and then blew an ACL, do you think JL would have given him a scholarship?  Especially if there were some other highly touted DTs that were willing to sign with USF.  A verbal commitment is basically like saying "right now I think I am going to this school".  I hope we get the best players we possibly can regardless off whether or not they back out of a verbal commitment.  Like Bien said, it is a much better situation than if he would have changed his mind at the last minute. I would prefer a talented player who takes his time to make a decision, then a sorry player who has it in his heart to get pancaked every Saturday.  JL will get the best DTs he can. By the way, for those of you who are upset about getting the shaft- you better get used to it because it will NEVER end.  Just ask Texas. 8)
  9. It seems the Big East will be sliding into the Liberty bowl: http://www.orlandosentinel.com/sports/college/orl-sptcollegeinsider31073105jul31,0,5654706.story?coll=tf-main-sports Read under "Still Bowling". We appear to be a lock for at least one year. I hope the SEC makes a better offer than C-USA for future bowls. 8)
  10. Hopefully, they will paint the end zones and center logo for the UWV game. The Bucs don't play at Ray Jay until Nov. 6th and it will be Homecoming. 8)
  11. 3 wins is a bleak prediction for this season. I hope you are wrong. 8)
  12. You don't think Hill would consider playing some WR? 8)
  13. I hope this is the beginning of a pipeline. I was hoping Paul Gruber would have came over and coached after he retired. This is a great opportunity for Steve White to get a graduate degree and some coaching experience. His experience will be invaluable. 8)
  14. South Florida is Dade/Broward/Monroe/Palm Beach counties. USF is not in South Florida. Nothing you say will change that fact. I live in South Florida and constanlty have to explain why USF has its name (after they stop laughing). It is a pain in the a$$ when you live in South Florida and maybe that is why it bothers me so much. Fresno State seems to be doing well with their name and SDSU is as well. I would be willing to take another name if you can come up with one. Like I said before, the name will never change, so I am going to have to deal with it. 8)
  15. dw4uconn- A couple of points: 1) The name will never be changed. 2) UFT is the worst possible name imaginable. 3) I agree with you, but I would change it to "Tampa State" or "The University of Tampa Bay". 4) See number 1. 8)
  16. I am surprised nobody voted for Syracuse. Isn't there a NY native or anyone who has Cuse alumni in the family? 8)
  17. I think the UCONN game will be easier. Rutgers returns 9 starters on offense (including their QB) and 8 on defense. UCONN returns 5 on offense and 6 on defense. They will be most likely be starting a rFr at QB. 8)
  18. I am probably the only one who is looking forward to the UCONN game. My hope is, that game will decide whether or not we go to a bowl. 8)
  19. Does everyone else agree with that statement? My hope was RMC could slowly increase the level of talent coming to USF year after year and that appears to be happening. I am not sure if we have the talent to be a "middle of the pack" BE team yet. I believe the BE will be the most competitive conference in history. A "middle of the pack" team will probably be close to cracking the top-25. Markusovic seems like a great recruit. The part I like the most is that we will have four or five years to develop him. 8)
  20. At this point, I wonder if he even has to recruit these guys anymore.  Bowden probably has a secretary call them and say "you should receive a package today, sign on the bottom of page three and have a nice day."  It will be a beautiful day when USF gets to their level. 8)
  21. This is an interesting transfer. After watching the last two years, I don't think we can possibly have enough QBs. You never know who is going to get injured or transfer. My guess is Gregory will become a decent back up at either the QB or SS position. Hopefully, he will make his contribution on special teams and by setting a good example off the field. I will feel comfortable with whoever wins the starting QB position because of the competition. If Gregory does emerge, then he will certainly deserve it. My only concern is that we may be wasting a scholarship on a coach's son. Only Gregory has the power to dispel that notion. 8)
  22. Like:  1) The large number of USF fans who visit and post on this site. 2) The whole site is easy to navigate and use. 3) The way all of the forums are organized (recruiting, Big East, etc.)  4) Membership fee. Dislike: 1)  For some reason, UCF fans believe a thread on this board is not complete until they chime in.  I wish their posts were automatically deleted except on the "Florida..." and "UCF/USF unmoderated" board.  Unfortunately, you can't have 1 and 4 under my "Like" without my "dislike". 8)
  23. I would be willing to take a 41-17 beat down if we could get 65,310 in Ray Jay. 8)
  24. I thought we were completly f""ed at the DT position before Chance and McCullough left.  Now, I don't know what we are going to do.  :'(
  25. As far as the "death penalty" goes, I read somewhere that the determining factor is whether or not the University is forthcoming and helps with the investigation.  I read that SMU was trying to hide information and they were taking the NCAA lightly.  My guess is FAMU will be punished, but I would be VERY surprised if they receive the "death penalty", as long as they are forthcoming and start taking positive steps (firing their HC). I think two other factors will help FAMU.  First, they are only I-AA.  When you are bumping top-5 I-A programs out of major bowls, you are stealing a lot of money from some major programs.  I would also like to point out that FAMU being a historically black college can only help.  I can't imagine the number of PC police that would come out of the woodwork.  The NCAA would be playing with fire. I can already hear Jesse Jackson.  8)
