  1. Leavitt - JOB 1 - Win the Conference - FAIL. Holtz - JOB 1 - Win the Conference - FAIL. Taggart-JOB 1 -Win the Conference - ??? **** Of course now it's also a completely different conference. 3 years ago, Tulane, Temple, E carolina, etc, would have been considered tune up games. Now, they are conference foes, meaning they can beat us! Quite a few steps backwards has this once skyrocketing program taken. There's never been a point in our history where 1A games like that would have, realistically, been considered tune up games ... I respectfully disagree. A few years ago, we would've been pretty heavily favored against any of those teams. This year AND MAYBE next and beyond, not so much. But I'm glad you guys are happy about the direction of the program. At least someone will be in the seats at RayJay. +1 We recently lost our first game against a non-BCS opponent since joining the Big East. +2 Going into those games we all had the expectation of a win, and I think that's what he meant. The expectation of winning is part of a winning culture, and I'm disappointed with the "we have to take our lot in life" mentality that some of the core posters/mods on this board have sunk to. That is NOT the mentality that Leavitt EVER had, and it's NOT the mentality that ANY successful individual or institution has ever had. GO BULLS!! Thank you! At least some on here aren't constantly wearing their green & gold goggles!
  2. And by the end of 2007 the stands were mostly empty. Unless this teams wins 10 games a year the fans aren't coming. I don't think it matters who we beat. If we are 9 - 1 going into the last games of the year the stands will be much fuller. By the end of 2007, the game was insignificant. Now, all of them are! Winning a conf with SMU, Tulane, Temple, E Car & whoever will be like winning the MAAC. Nobody will give a ****!
  3. You guys don't seem to understand, we live in a community that started to become accustomed to us beating #5 WVa, #9 Louisville, #17 Auburn, #23 Fl State. How many of them do you think will flock to rayjay to watch us play Tulane & Temple?
  4. Big deal. We gave Ky a tough game when we were still 1-AA. It's Ky for christ sake!

Sometimes you have to take a few steps back before you can take a leap forward. Let's not forget that Leavitt couldn't win a championship at the lower levels either, so I'm not sure what world you live in where those teams would ever be tune up games. That's a cute saying, but that's all it is. Also, Leavitt never had time to win championships at the lower levels because he got upgraded every few years! Not to mention, most of his tenure took place in trailers!

  8. How do you define "top recuits"? Skip had exactly two recruiting classes. We don't know how those will turn out yet, but several of the players from his first class were getting playing time and playing pretty darn well last season. From Leavitt's classes, exactly which "top recruits" did anything the last two years? I count BJ Daniels, Kayvon Webster and Barrington. There were an awful lot of failures in a very large senior class that was all Leavitt recruits. Thus far, I would say that Holtz may or may not have recruited all that well. But Leavitt's last couple of recruiting classes were dreadful. It's kinda hard to say they were the problem when they weren't coached very well? Skip's system didn't favor speed & athleticism! When you say his recruits played well, to which of our 9 losses are you referring? Yeah, Lanaris and George Baker were the epitome of speed and athleticism. That's why they were so bad. Those two QBs Leavitt signed were ready to step in when BJ went down. All I know is my conversations with Snyder he said this was the fastest most athletic defense he had seen. But what does a DC know over the futbol guru's on this board? As for Baker, he runs a 4.4 40. Lanaris at LB a 4.6 40. That's pretty fast on ANY team! problem is, these guys left behind by Leavitt weren't coached in the system for which they were recruited. Skippy was always trying to pull in the reigns and it showed in his record.

  10. with the exception of a couple big names every year or two, when did we ever get top recruits? and if we're in a "crappy conference situation," why do we need top recruits? the majority of other teams in the conference won't have any better recruits than we do. coaching is not just recruiting 5 star athletes and throwing them on the field. coaching is about DEVELOPING players. if Taggart is a good coach, he will develop the 3 star players we get into winners. the idea that all USF needs is 5 star recruits to dominate is simplistic and unrealistic. give USF Alabama's recruits or Florida's recruits or FSU's recruits and even Skip might have won 3 or 4 games in conference. the point is we don't-- and shouldnt-- need that to win in a conference with Tulane and Temple. we shouldnt have needed that to win in a conference with Cuse and Pitt, either. Not sure how to put it, but you kinda missed AND made my point all at the same time, if that is possible? Leavitt was starting to bring in a few top recruits each year. Something we needed to compete at the BCS level and something skip failed to do. Now as you say, we don't need the JPP's, Andre Hall's, Jaquan Williams's, etc, etc, because all we have to do is beat SMU, Tulane, E Carolina, Memphis etc. TRUE, but does that make you happy with the direction of our program? NOT ME!
  11. Mostly agree with your assessment of Leavitt. Every time he got us competitive, we jumped in competition. We got ranked in top 25 in 1-AA, then BAM, we go 1-A then BAM, we go C-USA then BAM, we go BCS then BAM, we start playing annual ooc series against Miami, etc, etc. He never really had time to get his feet on the ground at any level before that level was raised AGAIN. Skip was lost on Florida speed. He had no idea how to use it! BTW - he didn't beat Notre Dame. They turned it over like 6 times in scoring position. Take just one of those away and they win! Tag - we may never know? with the crappy conference situation, we will not be getting top recruits anymore. If anyone saw the Beef Bowl tonight, that's the new future of USF football.
  12. dont see why anyone would be against this talent is talent I agree!
  13. While I'm totally on board with this, I do have to laugh as I think back of all who praised Holtz for not doing this and even further complained about Leavitt for doing it. Oh the wishy washy tides of change!
  14. Not a chance This has already been discussed/confirmed/mentioned by the A.D. /thread All the more reason Woolard needs to go! Of all the the issues we have and things we need, a place to play 6 football games a year is NOT high on the list!
  15. Yeah, I lived in Gainesville for a few loooong miserable years. I can tell you that most student there don't live on campus either. It's stupid to even bring it up. Almost as stupid as the off campus football stadium. The only reason schools have on campus stadiums is because there are no other places to play. They had no choice but to build. And if you build, you tend to do it on your own property, hence the OCS was born.
  16. LOL ... You want Petrino but then you say this? Look at his time with the Atlanta Falcons ... You obviously have no idea what you are talking about or what you are even saying. I'm not sure how the Atlanta Falcons have anything to do with bowl games?
  17. + 1 This was a very important hire because of realignment and wooly & Genny FAILED!
  18. Taggart just did that. He got his guys to their first bowl game and said sorry I'm not going to help you prepare for it. I know this is common but I've always thought it is ********. I think coaches should be forced to stay until the last is over!
  19. Exactly and here's the thing....with conference realignment, we REALLY needed to bust a move and bust a move FAST! Patrino would've provided that. Even if Taggart ca get it done, it will likely IMO take more time. We don't have time!
  20. TOTALLY AGREE! Woolard & Genshaft almost seem determined to completely ruin our football program? Anybody with half a brain knows Patrino would get us a conference title in about two years. Why are most Americans so childish about sex? So he had a hooker. Who gives a ****!
  21. They might be opening the student club afterwards, but remember that showing it on the big screen would mean keeping staff and security on duty till up to midnight. Really not worth it. Wow, what a loserman attitude that statement represents... If they thought they'd have more students there than staff and security personnel, they might do it ... If you want them to show up, first you must make it available. A package deal where you watch the women's game live then men's on the screen with pizza, etc for one fair price might just get a few to show up?
  22. If we had more creativity they'd show it at the dome right after the women's game.
  23. This is the last post I'll make. To me it's like a friendship. You come home and find a guy you've been friends with for 6 months in your house because he got your hidden key and didn't want to wait outside. You're kinda weirded out about it and ask him to leave and change your locks. or you find your friend of 15 years who's been there for you in all kinds of ways. You can be ok with it because of who it is. I remember in 1995 when Leavitt had his Daewoo on a field at 10 pm shinning the lights so he could see to dig holes for fenceposts for a makeshift practice field. You don't treat THAT guy the way they treated him!!!!!!
  24. The real reason for the dismissal was that he had plateaued. Slapgate was effect, not cause Exactly! Which is my whole point. He "should've" just been fired like Holtz, but instead he was treated like ****!
  25. Not true! Some (like myself) lived in the same area, bumped into he & his wife while out and knew them personally. I've heard other sides (his and player's) of the story as have others who do or use to post here. Besides, something many of you don't seem to get, even the false (yes the false) allegations weren't even that serious in the first place! Nobody ever said Leavitt made a fist and punched anyone. The allegations are not indicative of someone wanting to harm another person! And that's even if true? Hardly worth loosing a guy who poured his heart and soul into this program!
