  1. Don't forget, UF makes several MILLION on their 7th (6.5) home/neutral game in Jacksonville every year. UF would still turn a profit if they only had 5 home games. UF could turn a very easy profit with 5 home games, PLUS, their annual game in Jacksonville...which brings in Millions more. UF is a CASH machine....They could make profit with the last 2 scenarios...or...make A LOT of profit by scheduling a 6th (almost 7th) home game every year...and they do. KL
  2. Info on UNF Athletic Facilities: http://unfospreys.collegesports.com/facilities/nfla-facilities.html KL PS. Smazzie...go hangout at the Jackson trial. No one said UNF would be the "new" FLA Power. It won't take them much to be among that top programs in the ASUN. Don't think that means "FLA POWER".
  3. Because land is so scarce around the Orange Bowl, and that most homes there have small yards/driveways, one should note that probably 70% of all private home/businesses parking sites have "BLOCKING" parking...which means you can't leave till the person infront of you. Some will take "keys" from you...so they can move cars when you want to leave...but most don't. You will pay more for "No Blocking" Parking...but if you are an outsider...the easiest way for a local to "trap" you is to advertise "No Blocking"...you park...then you show up after the game and the lot is full of BLOCKED parking. KL
  4. Nice, clean, Baptist Church on the North Side of the stadium. Believe they might charge $20...but its the cleanest "public" lot by far near the Orange Bowl, plus they have their own security to watch your car. (Bonus is there are plenty of "grass" areas if you want to cookout on your grill as well.) Been to the Orange Bowl about a dozen times for football games and concerts. I've been lucky...no problems with my car...but almost every time...a friend or two had a windows smashed and their car broken into (stolen merchandise, even CLOTHES!!). Changes are you will be safe....but most agree that the best place in the State to get your car mugged during a game/concert...is the Orange Bowl...especially if the game is at NIGHT! Rent a car...let someone else drive...or get there 4 plus hours early...and get in the preferred lots like the Church. KL PS. Even better...stay downtown/Biscayne Bay...and take a Cab.
  5. Correct...UNF has a tentative invite to the ASUN. UNF has had a very STRONG Baseball Program in Div II...and have beaten MANY Div I-A Programs thru the years. Believe they have played in the NCAA Baseball Tournaments for Div II several times recently in the past. With a strong enrollment (believe at 15,000 and growing), a nice campus, 10,000 plus seat Soccer/Track Stadium....plus a new small Arena/Gym for Hoops...I think UNF will be a top team in the ASUN in a few years. KL
  6. Some "Cheap" Airfares can be found directly into State College...but you have to buy them EARLY!! With mostly props serving that town...there aren't many seats to begin with...but some "reasonable" fares can get your right into town on Friday Afternoon. Pitt is a long drive on GameDay...and many have to leave Pitt around 6 AM at the latest for a 12 Noon Game. Harrisburg, PA has a lot of flights and is only about 90 miles South of State College. However, on GameDay AM...could still take well over 3-4 hours to get there or back right after the game. Hotel Rooms in State College are EXPENSIVE...(Supply/Demand...HIGH Demand...Low Supply), but State College is one of the BEST College Towns all around. It's worth the extra $$$$ on the hotel room so one can enjoy all the BARS/Restaurants on Friday afternoon till Sunday AM...plus you won't have to deal with traffic HELL on game day! Enjoy! KL PS. One of the best College Alumni Bars in a College Town in the US...is Rathskellar's...aka 'Skellars". They serve Pony Rolling Rocks by the CASE...and $3 Yuengling Pitchers! Drink up!
  7. From St. Pete Times: In January 2000, (Carlton) Hill was arrested at Tallahassee's Swift Creek Middle School, charged with a misdemeanor count of battery after he pushed and "continuously" punched a classmate in the head in a hallway after class, according to police reports. http://sptimes.com/2005/02/23/Sports/USF_star_recruit_char.shtml
  8. This topic has been moved to [link=http://www.usfbullspen.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=2;action=display;num=1109768289;start=0]State of Florida College Sports Board[/link] by Velcro.
  9. Greg...that sounds somewhat the same that many in Raleigh had said...that it was of a "friendly" visit between 2 old friends...but most thought Dawsey didn't have a chance if Dixon wanted the job. Bottom line, both teams are happy I guess. FYI..on Dixon's hiring: http://ncstate.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=392811
  10. It was hard for Coach Amato to turn down the experience and results of Coach Dwayne Dixon: http://ncstate.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=392811 Amato Completes Staff with Addition of Dixon Former Gator Assistant Head Coach to Lead Wolfpack wideouts Dwayne Dixon, who has spent the last 15 years as an assistant coach at his alma mater, the University of Florida, has been named an assistant coach for the Wolfpack, head coach Chuck Amato announced today. Dixon will coach NC State's wide receivers. Dixon has coached the Gator wideouts since 1990, serving under head coaches Steve Spurrier and Ron Zook. He was also the assistant head coach under both coaches from 1995-99 and from 2003-04. "Dwayne Dixon is a great addition to our staff," said Amato. "Having coached under Steve Spurrier, he is excellent technician and offensive mind. He has been in the big games - he knows how to get there and how to be successful once you do get there. But maybe even more importantly, he has a solid reputation as a players' coach. His players respect him and enjoy playing for him." A finalist for the 2001 Broyles Award, which is given annually to the nation's top assistant coach, Dixon has participated in 18 bowl games as a player and coach. He was on the coaching staff of six SEC title teams (1991, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 2000) and coached in two national championship games: the 1995 Fiesta Bowl versus Nebraska and the 1996 Sugar Bowl versus Florida State. From 1990-2002, Dixon's wide receivers tallied 445 TD receptions, 87 more than any other school in the nation during that time frame. From 1994-2002, Florida boasted more semifinalists (9) and finalists (4) for the Biletnikoff Award (given to the nation's top wide receiver) than any other school. During that same time frame, at least one Gator wide receiver was drafted by the NFL each year, 14 in all. He coached 11 All-Americans and 10 first-team All-SEC selections and Florida ranked in the top 10 teams nationally in passing offense 10 of his 15 seasons with the program. A four-year letterwinner at Florida (1980-83), Dixon was a first-team All-SEC and honorable mention All-American performer in 1983. He finished his career with 124 catches, then the third-best total in UF history. The MVP of the 1982 Bluebonnet Bowl, Dixon was inducted into the Florida Athletic Hall of Fame in 1997. After his collegiate career, Dixon went on to play professionally for the NFL's Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1984-85, 1987) and in the Arena League for the Washington Commandos and the Detroit Drive, leading that league in scoring and receiving twice. The 42-year-old native of Gainesville, Fla., earned a B.A. in criminal justice from Florida in 1980. He is married to the former Sandra Barclay and the couple has two children: Brittany (15) and Ian (11).
  11. SB...your "positive" outlook on last year's football season worked like a charm! 8) KL
  12. Notre Dame is trying to build up some "W"s. Their AD was on TV a bunch this fall, talking about how ND wanted to "soften" their schedule some...and play only 4 road games per year. ND knows that they can sign a BUNCH of teams who would be willing to play in South Bend, even ONCE, and not worry about a return game. It's all about the $$$$$$$$$. (Plus, NBC is putting "pressure" on ND...with "declining" ND TV Ratings...ND will get the same amount of $$$$$$, but ND will provide 1-2 "extra" games for NBC per year.) In the OLD days (not really that long ago), ND could brag almost any kid they wanted (that were qualified)...and could play some of the toughest schedules in the Nation year-in and year-out...and still be in the hunt for a National Championship. Those days are over....and ND is trying to find the "easiest" way and most "lucrative" way to get there. KL
  13. 1 Coach lost to a Hoop team called "St. Louis", at home, and who was the LOWEST SCORING Team in all of 320 plus Div I-A Teams...and who was without their best player... The other Coach just lost to the #2 Ranked Team in the Country...lead for much of the game...and fought to the end. Yeah...I would fire the former too. NOT!! KL PS. Maybe USF's Baseball Coach has "photos" of smazz...and that's why smazzie is so against him.
  14. Maybe because your Baseball Coach earns about 1/5 of the Salary Package as your Basketball Coach gets?? Plus...Baseball is NOT a revenue sport...and with your current Baseball Facilities...it would be hard for USF to "pay" for a top Baseball Coach. Basketball...USF has all the facilities in-place...but the school hasn't been able to win and advance in the Post-Season over the past 10 years or so in CUSA...and now heads into an even bigger pool...Big East. AD's like to bring in their "own" people in the top revenue sports, Football & Basketball. Has always been that way....and will always be that way. Helps if you were "hired" by the AD in those sports. KL
  15. Guess Leather just finish watching "Ferris Bueller" and used the old "Put the thermometer up next to a light" trick." Not many people even make it out of a Hospital with a 107 temp...especially just days later play in a game. KL
  16. smazz is right again... Moving up/down 20 spots in the Rankings will not help you win/lose a football game next year. It's the GAMES that count. KL
  17. Danny...if UCF averaged "10" people per game...then USF averaged "9". Last year, UCF "outdrew" USF by a few hundred per game (using TSA "actual" crowd figures). Also...FYI...probably 1/2 of the Big 10 Games start at 11 AM (Central Time) so they can be played at Noon EST on ESPN and ABC. Those Big 10 schools NEVER have attendance problems with 11 AM starts. KL PS. But yes, for Floridians...I think USF does it right..Schedule their home games for 7pm...unless moved for TV.
  18. As almost anyone in College Sports know...when there are "Changes" at the top in school Athletics, (i.e. New AD's)...these AD's prefer to bring in their "own" people to lead/Coach the most visable sports like Football and Basketball. However, expensive contracts, buyouts, etc...sometimes stop this from ever happening. If USF is having "challenges" winning vs teams heading to the A-10 and staying in CUSA....times could be very "rough" once they have to play the likes of Cuse, Pitt, etc... KL PS. Also, sometimes new AD's and old Coaches have a great relationships and changes aren't needed to do strong on/off the field performances.
  19. Probably because they went "down". Here's some comments from an article in Louisville when UL accepted the invite: "The Big East likely will suffer an immediate loss in its TV deals with ESPN and ABC, which are negotiated separately for football and basketball and run through 2007. A clause allows either side to reopen talks if the conference's composition changes by two or more schools. The networks are sure to offer less money for renegotiated football contracts. "It's clear that the loss of Miami, Virginia Tech and Boston College have dealt a serious blow to the value of Big East football," said Len DeLuca, ESPN's senior vice president for programming strategy. "They're losing known commodities of high quality and replacing them with potential. When the dust settles, we'll gauge all of our options." The importance of Miami and Virginia Tech was illustrated Saturday, DeLuca said, when the Hokies' upset of the Hurricanes became the highest-rated football game on ESPN in six years. DeLuca also said that either Miami or Virginia Tech has been involved in more than 70 percent of the league's TV coverage since the mid-1990s."
  20. With a new AD, most like to bring in their "own" people. Only time will tell smazz. KL
  21. Well..his HAT size did increase 3 whole SIZES over the last 5-7 years!!! Everyone's skull increases 3 entire SIZES once you beginning your late 30's...right?? LOL!! It was JUST vitamins!! (That NO ONE ELSE COULD SUPPLY!!) KL
  22. Wow!!! So all 17-18 yr old KIDS should think as clearly as you?? Guess you didn't have $80,000-$100,000 plus offer for a free 5 year education, plus, a possible chance to make MILLIONS in the NFL waved in your face when you were 17-18. Sucks for you. KL
  23. From today's St. Pete Times...(bottom of USF Article) mentions RJF: http://www.sptimes.com/2005/02/05/Sports/Fisher_arrested_again.shtml Fisher arrested again, charged with driving on suspended license By GREG AUMAN, Times Staff Writer Published February 5, 2005 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TAMPA - Former USF football star Brian Fisher was arrested for the fourth time in 11 months Thursday, charged with a felony count of driving with a suspended license as a habitual offender and a misdemeanor count of giving a false name to an officer. Fisher, who is attending Hillsborough Community College with the hope of returning to USF this fall, was released on $2,500 bond early Friday morning. USF's offensive MVP in 2003, he left the program last summer after multiple arrests relating to nonpayment of child support. While his return remains unlikely, Bulls coach Jim Leavitt said he hasn't ruled it out, providing he clears up his problems. "If he gets all his academic work done, I told him we would sit down then and discuss whether to go forward from there," said Leavitt, who was unaware of the arrest. Leavitt also said he might allow receiver Darren Haliburton to return in the spring, though not on scholarship. Haliburton spent three months in jail last spring after he pleaded guilty to two counts of battery, including one noted as domestic violence, and trespassing. He was arrested in September 2003, accused of battery on a pregnant ex-girlfriend in two separate campus incidents. He remains on probation, and has been enrolled at USF since last fall. He would have two years of eligibility remaining if reinstated. "Coach Leavitt has told me that if I came back, my next mistake would be my last mistake," Haliburton said last month. "Darren Haliburton isn't going to make any more mistakes, and you can write that down." 'NOLE ARRESTED ON DRUG CHARGE: Florida State redshirt freshman defensive tackle Chris Bradwell was arrested and charged with possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana, a misdemeanor, late Thursday and has been suspended from the team indefinitely. Tallahassee Police officers showed up at Bradwell's on-campus dorm in connection with the fraudulent use of a credit card belonging to freshman fullback Joe Surratt. The officers could smell marijuana and, after asking to enter the room, saw the drug on the computer desk, police said. Bradwell, who played in five games and had one tackle last season, was taken to the Leon County jail and bonded out for $150 at 5:09 a.m. The use of the credit card, a misdemeanor, is still under investigation, but if Bradwell repays Surratt, it's likely that police won't pursue it further. According to Florida Department of Law Enforcement records, Bradwell, 21, pleaded no contest to a reduced charge of disorderly conduct (an adjudication of guilt was withheld) when he was arrested in August 2003 by the Tallahassee police on a felony charge of obstructing a firefighter. USF LOSES PRIZED RECRUIT: USF had hoped to bolster its recruiting class by adding coveted defensive end Ricky Jean-Francois of Miami Carol City, but he appears to be headed to LSU. "He came into my office and asked for his scholarship papers for LSU," Carol City coach Walt Frazier said. "He said he was going to sign with LSU (Friday)." LSU and USF did not report any new signees.
  24. From Today's St Pete Times: Read down the article...mentions RJF and where is "might" be headed now.
